The all new rumour reporting article system is in full effect!
Tottenham’s Tom Huddlestone could be another option. He has failed to figure much for Tottenham as the season has progressed and would fit Martin O’Neill’s criteria of young and English.
Liverpool are expected to reprise their interest in Gareth Barry this summer and should Martin O’Neill lose his captain a big hole will need filling in midfield. Tottenham midfielder David Bentley has failed to fit in since his big money move from Blackburn and Harry Redknapp is expected to off-load the England winger this summer. O’Neill has shown interest in him in the past and could make a move.’
Another striking option could be Tottenham’s Darren Bent. The England forward has become frustrated at his lack of standing at Tottenham and with Jermain Defoe back to full fitness he will struggle to get into the side.
The Source: (The Independent)
I think this source has got a bit carried away with their rumour calculator. Martin O’Neill is said to be ready to freshen things up at Villa Park after seeing his side fall away drastically as the season entered it’s final stretch but it seems more likely he will bring in a player or two rather than making a complete overhaul.
Of the three named here i think a move for Darren Bent could be the most likely. Harry Redknapp seems very keen to sell the clubs top scorer as he clearly already has a first choice pairing that doesn’t include the former Charlton man. However it is worth mentioning that Aston Villa desperately need another centre back rather than another striker following the retirement of mercurial skipper Martin Laursen.
Bentley/Huddlestone/Bent to Aston Villa: One out of three perhaps.
