West Brom Relegated as Rampant Liverpool ease to victory: Baggies fans deserve big round of applause
by Mr Comfort on May 17th, 2009 2 commentsYes it was on the cards for weeks but now it’s official.
An early slip up from Shelton Martis gave Tony Mowbray another mountain to climb and try as they might they were always playing catch up and a fine solo effort from Dirk Kuyt sealed their fate.
Mark-Antoine Fortune could and probably should have scored a hat-trick but he and other Baggies players were guilty of not putting away presentable chances whilst their back line continued to offer far too much space to the marauding Liverpool side looking to secure a runners-up spot.
The match then took a comedy turn late on when Jamie Carragher decided to attack Alvaro Arbeloa who then then retaliated any in many ways both were lucky to not be red carded for the scuffle and Xabi Alonso was left trying to play peacemaker.
So it’s farewell to West Bromwich Albion but a big standing ovation should be reserved for their magnificent support who gave their all today as they have done throughout what has been a very difficult season.
The Hawthorns side play an attractive brand of football that should stand them in good stead in the Championship and they could well bounce straight back up.
