Alan Shearer needs a miracle this Sunday but if he get’s what he wishes then the club could well be on the verge of a very big turnaround in fortunes!
Newcastle United could play themselves out of a £140m takeover if they are demoted from the Premier League this weekend. A consortium made up of multi-millionaires from the United States and the Middle East wants to buy out the club’s unpopular owner, Mike Ashley, but only if Newcastle pull off a last-day escape from relegation.
The consortium has been taking advice from the football powerbroker Chris Nathaniel about a deal that would potentially make Newcastle the latest Premier League club to fall under foreign ownership. The men behind the takeover, including two NBA owners, have been putting together a potential deal for the last few months and are led to believe that Ashley is willing to sell even though he took the club off the market at the end of December. Imagine that! The Toon Army fans could have a double celebration on their hands if they manage to pull off a great escape act at Villa Park on Sunday. Not only would they save themselves from a drop down to The Championship but success could also spell the end for their Obese owner, oh what joy!
Clearly the club is huge and in the right hands, both in the boardroom and in the dugout, the club could and perhaps should, aspire to bigger and better things. A club who manages to pull in 50,000+ crowds really shouldn’t have gotten to the state they are in now. Decades since a meaningful trophy and 90 minutes from relegation!
Are United fans hopeful for a last day reprieve?
