The Rumour
Manchester City and Liverpool are waiting for news over Lazio’s intentions to sign on-loan Al Sadd striker Mauro Zarate.
“I am not worried about the future,” Sergio Zarate, the Argentine’s brother and agent, said. “If Mauro does not stay at Lazio then he will go elsewhere and is certainly not lacking offers.
“Mauro would be very happy to remain and we talked about a five-year contract, but it all depends on Lotito.
“If he doesn’t complete the buy-out, we have another four or five clubs waiting for news from Italy, Spain and England.

The Analysis
Nippy diminutive intelligent striker Zarate had a brief spell in the Premier League during which time he was unable to stop Birmingham City from getting relegated but he showed enough to suggest that he had talent. The Qatari side that own him, Al Sadd, then loaned him to Serie A side Lazio and he started the season with a bang before easing slightly but still nonetheless completing a very successful season at the Rome club helping them to a mid table finish and a Coppa Italia title.
Now it appears his brother is hawking him out for a new deal and the ball is somewhat in Lazio Chairman Claudio Lotito’s court but it appears that Liverpool and Man City are showing an interest.
The Likelihood
Zarate to Liverpool or Man City: I think not. More than likely these two teams were added into the mix by the agent himself.

Rafa, has suggested he would be interested in him, but as Birmingham fc stated before he would cost £15-20m. He now becomes the 4th argie forward to be rumoured to join the reds (Lavezzi,Zarate,Tevez,Aguero) and would be the most realistic target of the four. I remember he showed glimpses of brilliance at the brum side, and so does have PML experience, is young, skillfull, and potent up front but is he overpriced. Would like to see where this goes, sounds interesting.

arguably his best displays have come against AC Milan, Juve anr derby games against Roma fc. So, we know he can produce it against the top teams. Most enjoyable was seeing him skinning Gattuso 3-4 times brill!

Like Zarate, but would prefer Llorente of athletic bilboa even to David Villa. He will be massive come next world cup and we could offer Bilboa £20+m for Martinez and himself. Looks top drawer, tall, strong, techniquely gifted and brilliant in the air. He wouldn’t mind rotation, could lead line with or in the absence of Torres, and would welcome switch with pal Javi Martinez. Oh and did I mention he is a spanish international? Remember his goal against England in the freindly where Spain won 2-0, villa and Llorente! Came on as a sub late on and rose higher than terry to score. We need him and he would be my top buy this summer! Rafa I am asking, pleading and praying that you sign Martinez and especially Llorente!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lavezzi has reportedly turned down liverpool stating he’d prefer to stay with napoli so you can cross him off the list, tevez like i’ve said before won’t get enough game time for his liking so he’s off, aguero is fantastic and would be my pick but he is way out of liverpools’ price range at the moment so a move for him is highly unlikely, zarate may like someone has already said be a good option but only time will tell if this actually happens.bit strange how we’ve been linked with virtually every argentinean international(striker) under the sun.

People keep say that Liverpool don’t have the money for Tevez. We do. It is just how Rafa chooses to spend that money…… City looks to be signing Tevez according to the media.(But we all remember the last day of the transfer window and the Robinho/Berbatov thing) With Man Utd making a £15m offer for Huntalear, Chelsea chasing Aguero,Kaka,David Villia and Stephane Sessegnon ( a Likey signing given Chelsea along side Arsenal, and Portsmouth have the highest contingency of African players in the permier league), and Liverpool being linked with Lavezzi,Tevez,Zarate,Heinze,Barry,Martinez,Silva,Aguero,Sessegnon and just about anyone else that can squezze into a red shirt i just wish Rafa would sign someone already….
By the way just two more players to throw out there Gareth Bale of Tottenham,(LB) and his team as a Back up striker Roman
Pavlyuchenko both out of favour with Harry Rednapp….

donavan- bale was poor this season.yes he has some potential, but when is he going to achieve it and where would you play him? we have our left back position sorted so i can only see him playing right back, in which case johnson is the better option in my opinion, as for pavlyuchenko i think he’s out of favour for a reason…. because he’s shit.
barry has signed for city so hopefully that means alonso is staying, with him staying we only need 2 quality signings maximum- my choice would be silva and tevez/aguero, but we’ll just have to wait and see… dossena may be on his way out along with pennant, voronin and itandje and if that happens i think liverpool will be way on their way to winning the epl next year.
