Everton boss David Moyes is offering Michael Owen a £50,000a-week contract to make a dramatic return to Merseyside.
Moyes has been given the cash backing from chairman Bill Kenwright to sign the former England striker, who is keen to come back and play in the area following his nightmare at Newcastle United.
Talks have begun, the package has been put to Owen and the signs point to the one-time Liverpool idol saying “yes” to Everton in the very near future.

Whilst this deal would obviously represent a hefty pay cut I think Michael is clever enough to realise he has to make sacrifices in order for top level clubs to take the calculated risk in bringing in a injury prone player in his late 20s.
If this deal goes through I can see the former Liverpool and Real Madrid man experiencing something of a revival and if all goes well and he steers clear from any long term knocks he could even convince Fabio Capello of his merit in an England squad.
Everton need more firepower and Owen can still find the back of the net and given that there is no transfer fee to fork out it’s a deal worth making.
