Liverpool Launch £19.5m Bid for Magical Playmaker
by Steven Constable on June 3rd, 2009 38 commentsRafa continues to push on with Spanish pursuit.
The Rumour
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has launched his bid to sign Valencia forward David Silva – but could face a battle to keep Javier Mascherano.
Spain’s Euro 2008 winner Silva tops the Anfield wanted list and Valencia may have to sell cheaply because of their dire financial problems.
Liverpool are believed to have made an initial offer of £15million plus misfit forward Andriy Voronin.

The Analysis
It appears that the pressure is beginning to exert itself on Valencia as reports of their financial situation continue to illustrate just what a mess they are in, it won’t help matters that the La Liga side missed out on the goldmine that is the Champions League.
David Silva is a prized asset they may have no choice but to lose and Rafa is ready, willing and able to jump in and sign his 47th Spaniard. Liverpool could really use a player like Silva and the fans seem to be in agreement that this move is highest on their collective wish list.
Offering Voronin as part of the deal could be a smart move. The Ukrainian had a great season at Hertha Berlin and obviously helps the Spanish side cope with the loss of a big name player without having to scour the leagues for a replacement.
The Likelihood
Silva to Liverpool in swap deal: Could be the best offer Benitez has made to the ailing Spanish club and they may well have no choice but to except.

I really hope this is true, he’s a class act. Plus Voronin goes, 2 birds 1 stone.
Lfc4Lyf - June 3rd, 2009 at 1:11 pm
this would be a great signing for liverpool fc and it would finnaly solve our problems on the wings.
si, n.wales - June 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 pm
silva would be a great signing but we do need a right back and a striker to help torres out. glad we didnt get barry aswell, he aint in the same league as alonso!
joe - June 3rd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
doesnt think this is true, but it would have been good. dont know why valencia wants voronin, they probobly want babel or benayoun instead?
Xander - June 3rd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Ye silva is a great player and would fit into liverpool. If we just get silva and glem johnson this transfer window i would be more than happy and with this deal voronin also goes! If this happens it would be great. and with dossena to be sold we can get johnson and silva at the expence of voronin ,dossena and the money we get from the owners.
Lfc4ever - June 3rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
This would be a gr8 deal 4 sure but i dnt think they would want voronin they already have much better strikers than him instead give them yossi/riera+cash then they would surely go 4 the deal
Ash T - June 3rd, 2009 at 2:18 pm
if we dont get silva i wouldnt mind mata not as good yet bt only 21ish and could be even better than silva but i do want silva more
Warrenisaredfan - June 3rd, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Silva looks likely to come to Liverpool fc now, and with that deal I think it would be very realistic. Voronin is a good striker………..outside of the premier league! So, they may budge seeing as they will have to sell Villa and pos Morientes as well. Therefore, it is likely that a new striker will be needed. They are a team going down, remind me of Leeds to a certain extent. Silva and Villa will go to inject cash and now I think he will most likely join us that is if Real dont grab him first! Yossi and Riera will and should stay! Remember we are building a great squad as well as a great team, sell them and who else do we have? Would you buy Silva and just have Babel for cover? There are 50+ games in a season so have a little sense.
TEDSUZUKI - June 3rd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Keep our fingers cross and let’s see what happens.
Alex - June 3rd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I hope he does come to liverpool because he really would fit into liverpool and we need him. Then all we need is Lavezzi, Johnson and maybe Wheater
Allahs boot - June 3rd, 2009 at 3:18 pm
if that deal goes through i dont think you’ll find anyone complaining, put it that way
Paddy - June 3rd, 2009 at 3:58 pm
I hope we do get Silva because he would sort out our problems on the wing and he can score goals.
geoff - June 3rd, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Ash T - June 3rd, 2009 at 4:38 pm
i realy dont know if i would want david villa at liverpool hes good yes but hes like 27 geting on abit to be honest i would rather have aguero alot younger and torres old striking partner
Warrenisaredfan - June 3rd, 2009 at 4:39 pm

nick93 - June 3rd, 2009 at 4:55 pm
I would like to see silva in a red shirt i have been a fan of his for many a year…. and all u people slating babel.. he is a natural striker not a forward move him to back up striker and then bring in lavezzi and johnson maybe lucas neil as cover for a free along wid sturridge will be amazing .. lucas is a good player people shouldnt slate him… and there is the winning formula
Reina
Johnson—Skrtel—-Agger—-Insua
Alonso—–Mascherano
Kuyt—-Gerrard——Silva
Torres
Subs: Lavezzi/Babel/Riera/Cavalieri/Carragher/Aurelio/Benayoun
Sell: Voronin ( apparently in the silva deal)
Hyypia gone
Pennant gone
Dossena gone
itandje gone
And for godsake Benitez please use some of the talent in the reserves and youth squad people like : Hammill/Nemeth/Pacheco/Kelly/Derby/Spearing etc etc….

Walk on.

Jim - June 3rd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
nick 93 – good team but why have lavezzi on the bench? have him on the right instead of Kuyt
john - June 4th, 2009 at 12:30 am
also i dont see why carragher isnt in ur startin team? he is still gonna be our best defender for the next year or 2 at least so why not play him. its like not playin gerrard because he is getting old, it doesnt change the fact hes still our best player
Dom - June 4th, 2009 at 1:30 am
John, carra is a funny character. Too many time he verbally attacks other defenders for mistakes and it demoralises the team. Nobody ever puts him at fault. I feel we should be playing agger and skrtel together!
Nick93, from your team I would play this
………………..riena…………………
Johnson…agger…skrtel..insua..
……..mascherano………………..
……………………alonso…………………
Dom - June 4th, 2009 at 1:32 am
Mascherano…………
……………alonso…….
….gerrard…….
Lavezzi…. torres…. silva…
Allahs boot - June 4th, 2009 at 2:03 am
my mate owns an exclusive whore house,he’s been stood over by a rafael benitez, and told to provide free service on wednesday for a david silva,a carlos tevez,a david villa, and a plate of columbia’s finest.true or not i think geoffrey should really take his meds….soon
9torres - June 4th, 2009 at 9:24 am
we need a striker, a winger (be good if they could interchange), a full back and we are set to go.
Would swap Dossena plus cash for De Ceglie from Juve.
Would sign Lavezzi/Silva (not too sure who would be better), and also Tuncay great work rate but also great skill. Plus Tuncay won’t break the bank at £8m and can play as a winger and striker.
Would look at Srna for right back.
Allahs boot - June 4th, 2009 at 10:54 am
im actually suprised that an epl team havent snapped up srna.he was brilliant for croatia in the last world cup,and from what i gather,he is killing it at shaktar.just think rafa should have signed him then, not too sure how old he is?
9torres - June 4th, 2009 at 11:05 am
i think he’s 27 mate, competition for Arbeloa is always welcome.
Leigh - June 4th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Silva would be the perfect signing for liverpool at the moment. he is a very attacking and skillful player who will fit in perfectly. And to lose voronin as well, is a great bonus. voronin has proven he is a very good striker outside the premier league and this could attract valencia to him.
YNWA
Dom - June 4th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Rafa has met with silva. silva has expressed his desire to play i n the premier league. However rafa has offerd valencia 17mil. If they try take him to a bidding war with real or barca then he will pull out the deal.
Also rafa met with gareth barry to try secure him b4 city did, but was unwilling to pay the 90,000 a week he wanted. So pulled out
nick - June 4th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
i would not play carragher because he is 32 and rafa stated that he wanted to use him as a utility man to fill in the holes at the back.. and kuyt has been brilliant this season i would swap him and lavezzi over every so often… tuncay would be a great signing and a good back up… ………….
Me - June 4th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Wow, you guys are idiots. Carragher and Gerrard are the heart and soul of Liverpool. That aside, they are both the best players at their position, and quite frankly, in addition to a fit Torres and of course Reina, the only players who are not, and shouldn’t be, dropped from the side. Rafa seems to emphasize rotation over all other policies, except with these players. Doesn’t anyone find that interesting? Rafa is regarded as a football genius, yet no one trusts his evaluation of talent. Idiots.
john - June 4th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
hey dom its called commanding the defence. u aint gonna do too good if everyones pussyfooting it around as if nothin bad happens. u must be on crack if u havent seen the amount of times carragher puts in vital tackles most couldnt be asked to do. u really are on crack if u think he should be dropped from the team. only ones who should be dropped are lucas(consistently bad) and arbeloa(consistently dull)
Dom - June 4th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
I didn’t say he isn’t good. But he is gettin on and we should be looking to the future.
But to verbally attack players then push em around. That’s not what I wanna see.
Grumpy - June 5th, 2009 at 4:21 am
Uhmm…I won’t say Carra is bad but he does lacks pace at times. His spirit and passion makes up for it though. He does get to impossible tackles and made many incredible blocks to shelter the goal. With the slanging match incident, I think Carra is right in this instance. Aberloa was too casual and leaving the right exposed once too many times. If Carra had opted to ‘talk’ after the match in private – it might be too late then. There are instances, you just need to speak up there and then. Important thing is that it’s nothing personal between them. Things like that happen on the football field.
I am not too sure if he is getting on too. If anything I feel his overall game has improved from previous season. His tackles are still timed well with commitment. He distributes swiftly and usually cleanly. He covers well and commands the defense with experience. I still think Carra is a key figure there.
Skirtel and Agger are both very talented guys and I see them forging a useful partnership in the near future. For now, I think they can learn a lot of leadership stuff with Carra’s influence on the field. Carra talks and communicates. That’s very important for the last line. Skirtel and Agger at teh moment I think leans on the quiet side. Give them time and Carra will help them grow into the role.
Grumpy - June 5th, 2009 at 4:24 am
Ah yes…if we don’t get Johnson, I am not overly disappointed at all. Don’t forget Carra can play there with effectiveness if Aberloa is injured. Skirtel and Agger can cover the middle.
Days Of Daglish Are Nearly Back - June 5th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
MAKE THIS HAPPEN RAFA!!!!!!!!!!
Even if it’s up to £22m it’s a good deal (or £18m plus Voronin). Then one out of the other transfer targets I would like to see at Anfield: Villa, Levazzi, Aguero or Tevez.
I think we will get priced out of Villa and Tevez. I think Levazzi would be the best realistic option. And if Aguero reiterates that he wants to join Liverpool and his eyes don’t light up and get swayed from the £££’s that Real, Chelsea or Man City will throw at him we may be able to pull that off.
Can’t blame Parry now so get out the cheque book and make it happen!
