Benitez sets his sights on clever striker signing.
Boro flop Tuncay has revealed he could be thrown a Premier League lifeline by Liverpool.
Boss Rafa Benitez ran the rule over the Turkey international in the final weeks of the season, and despite Teeside club’s misery of relegation, he liked what he saw.
Middlesbrough struggled because of a lack of goals, but Benitez is looking for a striker who is happy to fill as a support striker to the free-scoring Fernando Torres, and be prepared to act as back up from the bench.
Tuncay fits the bill, with his selfless running and great industry in creating chances for others, and he explained yesterday that he was aware of interest from Anfield.
“Yes, I’ve heard something about that, but nothing official has arrived to me. Of course I would like to play for a big club,” he said.

There appears to be a fire sale looming at the Riverside with a number of players ready to leave the relegated side and of the stars on offer Tuncay could well be the best on offer.
The Turkish international hasn’t been able to truly prove himself at Middlesbrough and far too often he has found himself without decent service and in Jeremie Aliadiere had a pretty average striker playing in front of him, he could well be a good signing for Liverpool and has the experience and ability to be a good addition Rafa’s squad, but is he of sufficient quality for a club battling for the title and Champions League glory, that is a difficult question.
He has shown glimpses of his ability and whilst on International duty he has proven to be inspirational as captain and whilst he wouldn’t be a earth shattering signing he could well be a very intelligent one.
Tuncay to Liverpool: Rafa would do well to make this move a reality.
