Liverpool Man Tells Rafa He Wants Out and heads for £7m Exit
by Steven Constable on June 5th, 2009 15 commentsSwift exit on the cards.
The Rumour
Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena seems destined for a return to Italy after asking manager Rafael Benitez for a transfer.
The 27-year-old international left-back failed to establish himself after being signed as John Arne Riise’s replacement in a £7million transfer from Udinese last summer.
Dossena made just 12 Barclays Premier League starts and towards the end of the season was third choice behind Fabio Aurelio and young Argentinian Emiliano Insua.
The Italian has told Benitez he would like to return to his homeland, with Juventus his preferred destination.
“Before coming back to Italy I talked to Benitez and explained to him my doubts,” he told Tuttosport.

The Analysis
This isn’t a big shocker and was on the cards after about three months of last season. The Italian arrived amid a fanfare of being one of the best full backs in Serie A but started very poorly, he then improved but was still by no means the finished article and never managed to secure a first team berth.
Rafa will gladly sell in order to finance other deals but will want to recoup most of the the money he spent on the Udinese man last summer. Juventus are front runners and a swift move will be in the best interest of all parties.
The Likelihood
Dossena to Juventus: Sure to have played his last game for Liverpool.

thank god for that the man is shite..makes way now for insua to get more game time and the chance to establish himself, this has many positives

bit of a shame coz he was startin to do well on the left wing
Allahs boot - June 5th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
arrivedeci. insua isnt good enough to be our left back.i wouldnt mind if both he and dossena were sold to finance a move for a first choice left back.aurelio will always get injured so maybe he can be used of the bench a bit more if we do get a decent left back.

Allahs boot, thats a bit harsh mate insua has had a solid season when he has played and took his chance but had to go on international duty just at the wrong time. i think you will see him push aurelio next year all the way. but as for dossena im not sad to see him go he struggled from day one.
Allahs boot - June 5th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
dibbler you are correct, that ruined insua’ season really.is it compulsary to play for your country even at youth level,or did he choose to go to play for the argies?when he came back he was a shadow of the player that started the season on fire.all i was remembering was the last few games when insua did really have some shockers.i still think that we need someone better than insua and aurelio.

Cheerio!!!
Aurelio is a good full back. Insua is good cover and will push for a starting place. I think the competition will drive them to better and better performances next season.
End of the day you don’t win titles or even matches from full back. Yes a goo full back can provide you with that extra width with overlapping runs, but it is no substitute for quality wingers, which is where we need to invest our transfer budget.

good decent money for him
Reporter - June 6th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
No-one will miss Dossena am i right? get good money for him and buy Silva or Tevez . But i think we can safely say Rafa doesnt know what hes doing in the transfer market….Barry 18m Keane 20m i mean wtf Torres was 20m and hes the best in the world
Allahs boot - June 6th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
reporter you are a knoob. rafa didnt sign barry, man city did an it was for 12 mil.yeah the keane signing was a massive mistake, could have cost us the epl,and probably did. But the signing of torres will remain the best value for money signing for years to come.torres would be worth 60 -70mil if kaka and ronaldo are worth that money.

firstly Days Of Daglish Are Nearly Back glad to see your spelling the name correct for once…you dont win titles from full back…two words amigo PHIL NEAL!
& Allah as 4 your shout on insua what game have you been watching this lad is class no arguements! excellent on the ball, good pace, good delivery, always calm, & strong in the tackle….what more do you want!
back to Days Of Daglish Are Nearly Back ! titles are won mate by full backs as part of a defence who dont concede goals…they are important…look at this season with the spanish omelette smug face how many goalsa have been conceded & how many times has he been found wanting to many…!
now 4 the italian salami awful waste of money…but hey not the first rafa has brought in &probaly not the last…oh wait a minute…the fans in rafa we trust are up in arms..he hasnt had the money…he has he has just consistently wasted it!
jim i heard your screech in the park end that night beglin curly pubic hair is back!

all managers make mistakes. u never know whether a player will fit in until u try them. b4 the season torres and kean were touted as best partnership in premier league. i personally would like to see insua start more with riera in front of him. whenever those 2 play they seem to work really well together.

i fink we should get bale hes young and would fit in the 6+5 rule and would we cheap since spurs want to sell him and i think rafa could get the best out of him.
