Good news, if it’s true, for Anfield fans.

The Rumour

Benitez is a long-time admirer of the 23-year-old and wants to bring extra quality into his squad, but the Liverpool boss will have to make sacrifices elsewhere to find the cash.

Real Madrid and Barcelona remain interested and have greater funds available, but Silva would like to go to Anfield. His arrival could mean Benitez having to off-load Albert Riera.

The Analysis

If indeed this is the case and Silva has taken a shine to Rafa after the two met last week then it is great news for Liverpool. It does appear that David’s Valencia teammate Villa is set to join Real Madrid and therefore that would in some ways lessen the chances that both would move to the Bernabeu side and i guess the only stumbling block would be the funding of such a move.

If Xabi Alonso does leave the club that would be a big blow in footballing terms but would probably go some way to paying for the move for the attacking La Liga star so that cloud would indeed have a ‘silva lining’ (apologies for the pun).
