Rafa continues to chase Real Madrid man.
RAFAEL Benitez plans to use Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80million switch to Real Madrid to land long-term target Javier Saviola for £5m.
The Liverpool chief is a big admirer of the Argentine maestro and wants him to link up with Fernando Torres in the Reds attack.
And with Saviola, 27, unlikely to get much action at the Bernabeu following the signings of Ronaldo and Kaka, the Liverpool boss is plotting a move.
Saviola has already been told he must give up his No.9 shirt to Ronaldo, convincing him of his place in the new pecking order at the La Liga giants.

So the Saviola bandwagon continues and all and sundry seem to believe that due to the apparent lack of cash available to Rafa it may well be a move that could bear fruit. Saviola used to be good, damn good, would Benitez take a chance on him returning to the good old days when he was a hero at Barcelona? Well he would be more likely to take the risk if the price was indeed just £5m! You can get two of him and have some change left for the price forked out for Emile ‘bloody’ Heskey!
Torres needs support, an in form Javier could do that job but there could be some who argue the two players are a little to similar and that Liverpool could do with a proper target man, like a Peter Crouch ironically, to help out El Nino.
Expect this speculation to continue as Real Madrid beat down the Anfield door in pursuit of Mascherano, Alonso and Arbeloa!
Saviola to Liverpool: It’s a deal that could happen but only if the Liverpool boss is sure the Argentine still has what it takes to be a success.
