Championship bound defender could be offered a way back to the top tier.
With the entire Newcastle team put up for sale by Mike Ashley, numerous Premier League sides are swooping over St James’ Park looking for a bargain. West Ham, along with Tottenham, are reportedly keen on defender Steven Taylor. Zola is hoping he may be able to prise him away for £4m, a bargain for one of the few players that showed any back-bone during Newcastle’s doomed season.

London born centre back Steven Taylor is one of many Newcastle United players said to be likely to exit St James’ Park before they begin their Championship season and there are a queue of interested parties waiting to convince him to move for a swift Premier League return.
It appears that London duo Spurs and West Ham are now the front runners and both could do with some defensive solidity. Gianfranco Zola may well be getting ready to lose his prized defender Matthew Upson after the England man admitted to wanting to further his career and wants to play Champions League football and realises that won’t be a dream fulfilled at Upton Park, in which case Taylor’s signing could well help fill that void.
Spurs on the other hand have to cater for the injury concerns that regularly surround Ledley King and Harry Redknapp knows that Michael Dawson is to erratic to count on to partner Jonathan Woodgate in King’s likely absence, hence the potential move for Newcastle’s 23 year old batter.
Taylor to leave Newcastle: I think the youngster will stick it out on the north-east.
