Arsenal to Secure £10.5m Centre Back Move on Friday

The Rumour
Arsenal’s deal for Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen remains in place.
The Gunners have agreed a fee of £10 million with Ajax for the Belgium international.
Talk over the move has gone quiet in recent days, but Dutch sources say that is down to Vermaelen, who is currently away on holiday.
On Friday he will be back in Amsterdam to prepare for his move to London.
A representative of Vermaelen declared: “It’s a question of when, not whether.”

The Analysis
It appeared to many that the Ajax captain was about to sign for the Emirates outfit last week but then it all went quiet and if that is simply because he was on holiday then I am sure Arsenal fans will be pleased.
He will be a very useful signing as and when he is announced and it really does seem that it’s only a case of when and not if for Vermaelen. The 23 year old centre back and sometime left flank man could be just the ticket and he fits the bill in many ways as a potential Wenger signing in the sense that he is not a household name but is well respected by those in the know (and I don’t mean me!).
The Likelihood
Vermaelen to Arsenal: Should be signed up before pre-season kicks off.

Ok this should be a good signing! This is how the arsenal line up should look next year, considering this guy seems strong in the air.
Almunia
Sagna, Sendeross/Vermailon, Tuore, Clichy
Rosicky, DM-Senna?, Cesc, Arshavin
Van Persie, Ade
Bench – Sendeross/Vermailon, Song, Walcott, Nasri, Denilson, Eduardo
Look at that for an all star line up and bench!

but nasri is better than rosicky
Vorian - June 17th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Well that all depends on how much rosickys skill has decreased in the last almost 2 years off football, but yeh sure in a year or two nasri will be easily better than rosicky. If nasri is thinking about a switch it should be to the opposite wing, because arshavin is pure class! Walcotts good and all, but he really lets us down defensively and I dont know if we can really afford that, especially if we dont have a world class defensive mid.
Im just saying in a champions league semi final agaisnt united this would be the team I would play as it boasts lots of experience.
Age:
32
26, 23, 28, 23
28, 30+, 21, 27
25,25.
Who said arsenal have a young team?
Now heres a question for you anonymous. Who does nasri remind of who played on the wing?
Vorian - June 17th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
You are right though age is no issue for nasri so him playing in a champions league semi final over rosicky would be the best solution. He was our best player agaisnt untied in the semi final!

i’ll be happy once the deal is done. I’ve seen a few clips of this guy and he’s definantly a beast in the air.
I agree with Vorian Senna would be a great addition to our squad. Experience, great technique and he’s got a mean shot from distance.
Besides, whats he staying at Villerreal for??? The manager is gone and he doesnt owe anyone else anything. He’s not a trophy hunter because he’s barely won any medals in his whole playing career.
he’s perfect as we would only need him for 2 or 3 seasons to help the development of our other DM’s (Denilson, Song, Diaby etc)
