The Rumour
Xabi Alonso: Not Real Madrid Bound!
Real Madrid have given up in their efforts to sign Xabi Alonso from Liverpool.
The Spanish side were keen on signing the midfielder but Liverpool insisted their player was going nowehere.
And sporting director Jorge Valdano said: ‘Liverpool have issued an official statement to the public – Xabi is a player who has little chance of joining Real Madrid.
The Source: (The Metro)
The Analysis
Thank god for that. It appears that Liverpool’s official statement last week has done the trick and essentially put the kibosh on the La Liga side’s latest bit of world domination. There are signs that Xabi may have given long considered thought to leaving Anfield but I think the moment Gareth Barry went to Manchester City things may have become more stable.
Clearly Alonso is a talented individual who’s worth to the club has been proven by the repeated interest of others. Rafa Benitez will have had a word with his fellow Spaniard and made it clear to him that he is very much part of his long term plans and hopefully that will be that!
Note however that the Sporting Director and former Argentine striker made no mention of Javier Mascherano, another player the Anfield supremo wants to keep away from Madrid’s grubby cash laden hands!
The Likelihood
Alonso not going to Real Madrid: Jorge Valdano is a more trusted member of the Bernabeu staff than Florentino Perez so I think when he say’s they have given up the chase I believe it to be true!

ha what was it ferguson said i wouldnt sell that mob a virus, well done rafa
Ash T - June 16th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
i think if we was to sell him we shoud get sneijder vaart robben and saviola or change robben for gago and get silva for lm better than robben and not ingury prone and sneijder and vaart can play any were across the midfield and saviola would be a good partner for torres skillful good dribbler as a eye 4 goal and sets up people and gago only young and hes good and rafa would be able to get the rest out of him
but like rafa says hes not going to sell him but if he was that would be the sort of deal i would want or atleast some of those players and money and straight 45mill for him

Good stuff, xabi is a class act and part of our spine, clearly Johnsons coming in and possibly a winger, we can’t afford to juggle too many players into the first team, a left winger would be nice, not Robben, he’s a proper cheat, Silva is a bit light weight for the prem. Maybe Aaron Lennon or James Milner, would be a big ask but buying English has to be something we must look at.

personaly i think we will end up with mata not silva and lennon would be a good buy but spurs dont want to sell

Now we need Barca to give up on Mascherano and then i’ll be very happy.

Ash, yeah….I like your suggestion about Sneijder. I can see him as a valuable member of the squad covering for Gerrard. The only problem is the cost. I don’t think Real will let him go for cheap.
Kermit, I have been watching Silva since his first season when he scored that goal in the Champions League against Chelsea. It’s not just that belter that makes me a fan of his. I watch many games which is one aspect of my job here and he is one player that stands out. His link play is excellent. He doesn’t dribble to showboat but to create something for the team or keep possession. Everybody says he is small but frankly I think Vidic a much bigger size player lost the ball more often than this little guy in the entire season. He is clever in his positioning and always stands at a position where team can spot him easily. His all round awareness is excellent. Give him a bit more time, I think he will be as good as any of midfield generals in Barca team such as Xavi or Iniesta. He will be worth the 20-28 million.

Paddy, don’t worry. A lot of it are just paper talk. Masch is not going anywhere. I don’t see this players moving anywhere this summer:
Reina, Carra, Skirtel, Agger, Insua, Aurelio, Kuyt, Benayoun, Alonso, Masch, Gerrard, Torres, Lucas.
I think they are pretty safe.
