Fergie looks to beat Perez to the punch in this race for a Serie A star!
Manchester United are launching a bid for Inter Milan fullback Douglas Maicon.
Corriere dello Sport says Maicon, in South Africa with Brazil’s Confederations Cup squad, is aware that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign him.
Real Madrid have indicated they’re willing to offer £18 million for the right-sided defender, however Ferguson is preparing to outbid United’s rivals with a £22 million cash proposal.

Given that Gary Neville is getting no younger and that John O’Shea is decent but by no means good enough to have a regular spot in the Man United side and that Rafael is a bit too young to throw in at the deep end, a move for Inter Milan and Brazilian star Maicon makes sense but is a pricey proposition.
The money markets are beginning to spiral out of control again as the idea of forking out £22m for a full back just seems pure craziness to me, but then I guess some could argue that any position in a team is as worthy of big bucks as another, although I wouldn’t concur.
The former Monaco right back has had three wonderful seasons at the San Siro winning a trio of successive titles so maybe he would be up for a fresh challenge?
