Liverpool to Decide on £5m Transfer By Next Week at The Latest
by Steven Constable on June 19th, 2009 68 commentsIt’s make your mind up time at Anfield!
The Rumour
Juventus are scouring the transfer market for a quality left-back ahead of next season and press reports suggest the Corso Galileo Ferraris directors are still torn between Italian internationals Fabio Grosso and Andrea Dossena.
The latter would jump at the opportunity to return to Italy after a disappointing season at Liverpool, but the Reds have lost Fabio Aurelio to injury and coach Rafa Benitez has allegedly demanded Juve make their intentions clear as soon as possible.
“I don’t know if you can call it an ultimatum, but I think that Juve will decide what to do within the next week,” agent Roberto La Florio revealed to Calciomercato.it.

The Analysis
Recent reports are a little contradictory when it comes to the future, or lack of, for Liverpool Andrea Dossena at Anfield. Some reports suggest he wants to stick it out on Merseyside and prove his doubters wrong.
Clearly Dossena didn’t have the greatest debut season in the Premier League, he started badly but worked his way back to decent form but clearly Rafa doesn’t feel that the Italian will be first choice and in many ways if Andrea were to move back to Serie A it would be best for all concerned.
Rafa seems keen to get things sorted with players early on in the mid season break so as to avoid any last minute wrangling and if the club were offered the £5m figure that has been banded about then I believe he would take the money without thinking twice.
The Likelihood
Dossena to Juventus: Pretty sure this will happen.

Am happy he might be going but i feel 7 million as a better price.
Donavan Ried - June 19th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Brought for £7m sold for £5m, but at least he will be off the books.
bradaigh - June 20th, 2009 at 12:11 am
apart from a couple of games he has been very poor.he could never fill riise’s boots but then again few full baks can.riise in his peak was the best & most versatile left back around.fabio is a very good footballer as we saw when he filled in in centre mid but i think the future is insua left back for ‘pool
this is my defence for 09/10
johnson carra agger insua
would be the quickest defence in a liverpool team in my lifetime anyway.all of them but carra are a threat going forward aswell and i think thats what liverpool need.for a period last season liverpool couldnt break down other teams defences.indeed this period comes around every season for liverpool and i think having more attacking options all around would help against the likes of stoke.
lets hope rafa feels the same way!
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 9:06 am
just reading this morning barca are offering us bojan krkic plus 20 million for masch. i know torres rates bojan and rafa likes him too plus the kid is 18, i reckon we go for it , masch s wife won t return to england and so he s never gona be happy there, great news i think, we get our 20 mill back plus one of the best young prospects in football
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 9:09 am
can bojan become the new dalglish to torres s rush
MarkindublinIRE - June 20th, 2009 at 9:45 am
yep sell mascherano…good player. but doesnt go forward enough…and gives away a lot of fouls….if he wants out let him go…give us 40 mill for him or 20 mill plus bojan..do the deal quick…get in some attacking talent…and go and but javi martinez…and lorik cana ..we could get the 2 of them for 20 – 23 mill…
javi martinez, lorik cana, bojan, tuncay …and one of silva, robben, ardan….van der vaart ..we be sorted ..bring in distan to replace hyppia for cover…if we get johnson …and maybe another cheap expierenced player ..we be sorted
-lfc- - June 20th, 2009 at 9:53 am
at least he’ll be going where his talent will be great for him he was a good player at udanise and now with a quicker pace juventus know what theyre doing and he can go foward
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 11:18 am
wow someone agrees to a mascherano sale, i totally agree that he is uneccesdary for us to win matches, get as much as poss for him and i d have arda turan ahead of any of the other s robben or david silva
van der vaart would be an excellent replacement for masch and balance the team for away games in the 4 2 3 1 formation as he is left footed and could fit alongside alonso
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 11:22 am
but i d like micah richards instead of distin, and you d get him for ten million aswell as johnson then sell arbeloa because he wouldnt be needed
i d have tuncay aswell , i was very impressed with tuncay at the euros last summer, he showed a lot of heart and desire and would help arda turan settle with them both being turkish
i like the team
i d sell reina too if a silly offer comes in and buy the octopus from spurs
my team tobe
gomez gk
johnson/richards rb
agger/skretl/richards/carra cb
aurelio /insua/dossena lb
then
gerrard / alonso/van der vaart cm
kuty /yossi/arda turan rm
babel/arda/hleb lm
torres/tuncay/babel/ngog strikers
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 11:26 am
oh i forgot bojan also
mascherano for 15 million + hleb + bojan
arda turan 12 million
tuncay 8 million richards ten million
johnson 17 million???????
reina sold for 25 million
gomez bought for ten
total spent 57
total incoming 40 +hleb and bojan
net spend 17million
and that team would be more serious title challengers than last year
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 11:28 am
and i really like dossena i hope we dont sell him because i think he has way more to offer us than we have so far seen
he looks like a fucking nutcase, hes totally agressive , i m sure he could do some damage for us down the left side
danny - June 20th, 2009 at 11:30 am
kermit are you on crack?
Mighty reds - June 20th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Kermit- from your comments, you are saying we don’t need a defensive midfielder. Think again.
Even against those weaker teams we can’t guarantee a 100% possession of the ball. So masch wins the ball and give it back to attackers. And except if my eyes are deceiving me, masch has improved offensively with some recent shots on target and fantastic through passes.
Last season, chelski were poor when they lost the services of essien and they thought it was the manager’s fault. But when he(essien) returned, chelski became fantastic and everybody thought it was the magic touch of hiddink. No it was essien’s magic.
Oh! I forgot. What happened in our first leg against chelski (cl). There was no masch!!!
If at all we should sell masch, its not for 20mil+bojan. Thats too poor. Cos i can’t see any impact bojan would add to our team for now.
It should be 20mil+yaya toure. Then we can use the 20mil and more to get a quality striker and a quality winger.
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Sell Reina just to buy Gomes who is the dodgiest keeper in the premiership!load of shit. Then why would you want Arda Turan instead of Silva who has proven he is one of the best attacking wingers in Europe and is also very versatile. Then i would take 20 million +Bojan but why would we want Hleb in our team! Then we could use that 20 million to try and buy a world class striker like Eto’o or Aguero or Villa.
My Team that would win the Premiership:
………………………………………………..Reina
Johnson………………..Carra………………..Skrtel/Agger………………..Aurelio/Insua
Kuyt…………………………………………Alonso……………………………………..Silva
……………………………………………….Gerrard
……………………………………Torres……………..Aguero/Eto’o/Villa
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Or else give us 10 million + Eto’o for Mascherano and then the Striker problem would be solved.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Paddy. My perfect team. What I been sayin for a while now
And I been sayin eto and 10mil for masch for ages now
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
xabi alonso is a defensive midfielder , and i d have van dervaart alonside him holding for tougher matches and for less togh ones free van der vaart up
the primary pioint is is we get an ofgfer of 40 million for masch i think we should sell him and i d take essien over masch every time
essien has more to his game than masch
not saying masch is a bad players just i think we need to win
win win esp in the premier league and esp at home and i dont think maschernao helps that equation, i d rather a four four two with gerrard and alonso central at home and i would if we keep him use masch only against teams who i feel are better than ours ie barca and maybe man u
against the rest i dont think he is neccesary
and why would i take arda turan over david silva
did you see both players perform at the euros
is david silva proven any more than turan in the epl
did you watch silva when he came on against new zealand, david silva is an expensive man s luis garcia and i didnt like him either
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
i still like dossena despite the crack comment , i also like lucas who isnt getting a fair go, id buy hleb because he was possibly arsenal s best player when there , has proven himself in the premier league can unlock defenses by himself
and as for gomez he was dodgy at the start of the year but towards the end he pulled off some miraculous saves and over the last ten games of last season he was possibly the best goalkeeper in the league, i reckon he has lots and lots of potential reina is weak on crosses and doesnt have the stature to dominate his area,
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Well he’s proved himself in the Spanish League which is twice as tough as the Turkish League and plus David Silva’s spain won the Euro’s and Turkey didn’t.
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Yeh he was one of the best keepers in the last maybe 5 games but Reina was the best for the previous 30 odd games!i know who i would rather!
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
erm i dont think spain won the euros because of david silva but i do think turkey went a long way because of arda turan and tuncay
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
i just personally dislike david silva, its an entirely personal thing, i wouldnt have him in my squad
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
saying that i hope that if we do sign him he proves me totally wrong
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Well it will have to be him cuz wer not buying Arda(Shit)!
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Let Manchester United have him since they can’t find a proper replacement for Ronaldo.
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
i dunno if we have 27 million to splash on him either, he d make a pretty expensive flop
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
no no man u have valencia as a direct replacemtn and hes just fucking brilliant (sarcasm)
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Valencia is a v good player.
My view on silva is that he’s not much better than riera. I do hope we keep riera, he’s a great player.
We should focus on getting a striker above anything else.
Kuyt, riera, babel and benayoun all do really well on the wings.
Also, if insua plays lb, aurelio is capable of playiin lb. Aurelio is one of the best lbs in the epl. (Please note I said one of the best)
So I’m thinkin we should sell masch, arbeloa and dossena, and use the money to buy a world class striker and maybe a skillful wingerlike sessagnon. Also I’m torn, do we buy martinez, or do we let jay spearing take his rightful place in the 1st team squad
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Sorry, I mean aurelio is more than capable to play LM
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Our problem has been our right side, now we got a better right back things should be better. And when we sell dossena, that’ll sort any probs we had on the left.
(Let’s try keep what we got to say in 1 post lol)
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
I agree Riera is a very good player but just unfortunately for us he only showed it in glimpses last season but i feel he will have an even better season this season and he will give alot of good performances like the one he gave for Spain against New Zealand last Sunday but i think we should still buy Silva just incase and they can both battle it out for the regular starting place and then we are guaranteed that at least one will be very good hopefully and the left wing problem will be solved!
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
i think we should buy martinez and let spearing show if he is better than him by fighting for that place in midfield
riera played really well for spain against new zealand bettere than i have seen him play for liverpool
but dom which world class striker are you thinking , i can t see eto o fitting in despite hopw highly i rate him plus his wage demands are ridiculous, leaving aguero , honestly havent seen enough of him to judge, tevez says he wont come to anfield , ibrahimovic cant see him and torres together, i like the idea of saviola with torres but it means dropping gerrard back into midfield, so who else is there , lavezzi i havent seen enough of, david villa i dont think we have that kind of cash available plus he said he ll only leave for real, huntelaar , i cant see him and torres combining well either,
our budget is limited to being less thna man u chelsea or man city maybe even inferior to spurs so we have to be clever with what money we do have
someone needs to give babel a boot up the arse, so this is why i d say buy four 15 million pound well above avergae players makes the team stronger all round rather than one superstarunless the superstar is of the same quality as torres and i personally dont believe there is a better striker in world football, maybe drogba when he is on form is a par with torres when he is on form, , so i dont especially see where this second world class striker who can compliment torres and gerrard is gonna come from
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Villa says he would only come england 2 join liverpool. Selling ,asch would giv us funds for him.
Aguero is amazing. Another player who said he wants 2 play with liverpool, plus he is torres’ old strike partner. Would b a great signing.
Eto’os wage demands r so high cos man city r courting him. If I was going to join a club as rich as man city who aren’t in europe then I would ask for high wages too. I don’t think he would disrupt play either. Shud play paddys formation, 3 in midfield with gerrard behind the front 2.
Levezzi, would be a good signing if we play 433 with lavezzi torres and silva up front. But then we have to keep masch and play him, alonso and gerrard in midfield.
Ibra… awesome player, too arogant for my liking tho. Dnt think he wud partner torres well tho.
Tevez, glad we avoided this disaster, he doesn’t have enough goals in him, plus we already have a player of a similar mould in kuyt.
saviola is past it.
So, eto, aguero or villa would all do well.
Eto is the most likely with barca wanting masch. I sense a swap deal
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I can see one of them 3 joining us this summer, which 1 i don’t know that but i know that Eto’o would be the most likely but anyone of them will do fine cuz to me they are the 3 best strikers in the world behind Torres! Then with Silva and Johnson to add to the strength of the team i can guarantee that we will finally win the League cuz United are going downhill with the sale of Ronaldo and then Tevez just after announcing he is leaving and they can’t replace them with the same quality cuz Real are taking them all so we would be better than them with them players.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
And, silva and gerrard are both versatile. They can play on the wing, in thee center or as second striker.
Come on rafa, make it happen
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
then i d pick agueo because of his age and the fact that he knows torres
Mighty reds - June 20th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Dom- of the three players you mentioned, i prefer aguero.
He is more skillful and faster. So when we are talking about unlocking defenses, he seems perfect to me. But i have a question for red fans;
A quality winger, an attacker and an attacking midfielder, which one is in a better position to unlock defenses? Cos that’s what we need urgently. I need your answer.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
We will see what happens. Ill be disapointed if we don’t get one of these
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Mighty reds. Attacking midfielders drive the striker forward. But gerradd does that perfectly.
Wingers don’t score many goals but create a lot, and great strikers score.
Ill ask a question to answer your question… would you rather 2 gerrards, 2 torres’s or 2 silvas?
Id say 2 torres. For the simple reason midfields need a defensive midfielder. Alonso is great at tht cos he distributes the ball so well.
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I would also rather Aguero cuz we would get a good 10 years out of him and he and Torres would unlock defences from the front.Gerrard and Alonso would unlock defences from midfield and Silva from the wing.Plus Torres maybe 25 goals in the league,Aguero maybe 20, Gerrard maybe 15, Kuyt maybe 10 and Silva maybe 10 aswell so that equals 80 goals roughly along with the goals scored by players who don’t usually score would equal roughly 90 goals – roughly 20 goals conceded equals 70 odd goal difference which would more than win you the league.
liverpool_4_ever - June 20th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Robben on the wing, Johnson at the back. I love Masch but that looks to be a good deal. Owen on a free with a pay per play. Gomez please god let that be a joke.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Let owen be a joke
Mighty reds - June 20th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Dom-”wingers don’t score many goals” oh but i thought cr7 and messi are wingers.
Anyway, we need a pacy skillful winger and a deadly striker. Both of them.
One more thing: I know that Torres and aguero will form a fine partnership but i don’t know if aguero will be able to lead the attack on his own if Torres gets injured.
Paddy - June 20th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Silva is a pacy and skillful winger and of couse Aguero will be able to lead the line in the same way Torres does.
Norwegianflyer - June 20th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Owen! pay per play, good idea. he aint so bad, let him try, he deserves that.
Norwegianflyer - June 20th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Owen can take N;gog`place.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Ronaldo and messi r exception mighty red. Both play in 433 formations. Ronaldo takes every free kick and pen.
I agree that aguero would do fine. Still, I like eto, strong, pacey and a lethal finisher.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
PAhahaha. Owen doesn’t deserve that. Fucking judas. I never wanna see him in a liverpool top
kermit - June 20th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
latest transfer news ronaldo has done a u turn on his proposed move to real
his reason he wants to play in a pink kit and has instructed his agent to find him a team that wears pink for him to play in next season
calv - June 20th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Owen dont deserve anything from liverpool i hate the guy i was laughing so much when newcastle went down. Really think we should go for santa cruz i think he would a great partner for torres.
Dom - June 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Santa cruz isn’t good enuf. Plus… he’s city bound
Donavan Ried - June 20th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Dom – June 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm …….”Tevez, glad we avoided this disaster, he doesn’t have enough goals in him, plus we already have a player of a similar mould in kuyt.”…….. Dom, Man Utd have not been renowned for having top goal scorers as they have poeple all over the pitch who can do this, and yes I know that Ronaldo score 42 goals a couple of seasons back, but considering he hogs all the penalties, freekicks, and was acting as the main striker most of the games this is understandable…… Tevez works hard and then will passes the ball quite often, he is not as greed as Ronaldo who will shoot most of the time…… Yes in many respects he is like Dirk Kuyt, but where he is different is that he is faster, tackles better, and can take on an beats others players…… A lot of you forget that it was Tevez that near enough single handedly kept West Ham Up…… Also Please note Man Utd tried to sign him this week and was willing to pay £25.5M instead of the £22m agreed upon….
As for Macsh going to Barca £20 + Bojan, I would sooner take the £35m and then sign who we wish to sign…..
Jt-1995 - June 20th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
i love mascherano and wud b sad to see him go. however if we get offerd over 30mil i would bite there hand off. the only thing is he has a great partnership with alonso and because he is so defensive he allows alonso to play his passing game, but i would prefer to see a more attacking team this season with only 1 holding midfielder:
————————————–reina
johnson—————–carragher—skrtel—————-agger
————————————-alonso
kuyt——————————gerrard———————young/silva
————–villa/aguero/eto’o——–torres
kermit - June 21st, 2009 at 7:58 am
i at this moment in time think tevez is a lying cunt, he says he won t join liverpool out of respect for man utd s fans, yet he is willing to join their derby rival man city, or chelsea , i dont suppose him joining either of these teams is mmoney motivated then or that the man utd fans would be disrespected by him joining either city or chelsea. nah tevez i m now glad we wont have you you are just another fucking mercenary and not fit to lick the boots of a true footballer like torres
kermit - June 21st, 2009 at 2:15 pm
okay my team and formation for the new season

Only 3 defenders at home against small teams!NO WAY!And then to play Eto’o left midfield away from home against difficult opposition!Stupid!!!!
kermit - June 21st, 2009 at 5:52 pm
yeap three defenders at home against weak opposition

yes mentos I do believe they will sell their assests.
We can’t fault the owners. They have given us money to spend.
Just hasn’t been spent wisely. 20m for keane? Lol

Ash T - June 21st, 2009 at 11:39 pm
sell mascherano get veloso/toure as his replacement get silva for the left wing keep alonso with kuyt of the right with aguero/villa upfront and johnson carragher agger insua i would also buy van der vaart adam johnson richards javi martinez i would sell dossena arbeloa el zhar macherano anderson reira
so my team would be
gk reina
rb johnson cb johnson agger lb insua
cdm veloso/toure
cm garrard alonso
rf villa/aguero st torres lf silva
subs
van der vaart
richards
javi martinez
babel
kuyt
adam johnson
spearing
Paddy - June 22nd, 2009 at 12:34 am
Riera is a very good player so i would hold on to him but still that is a very good team!
Ash T - June 22nd, 2009 at 12:39 am
the only reason i said sell reira is to get some money towards villa/aguero deal i would prefer aguero cause he is younger and we could get a good 10years out of him but if we could get silva/mata and villa in a deal for about 40mill plus players i wouldnt be complaining
mentoss88 - June 22nd, 2009 at 2:19 am
yea the whole keane thing was shockin haha im irish and i stil think he’s a stocking! i cant see aguero coming here tho doesn he have these crazy wage demands like? i would rather silva over any player right now (keepin masch is vital tho) dnt break up the good spine we hav established in the last season..
mentoss88 - June 22nd, 2009 at 2:27 am
and by the way IF masch goes… whpo thinks agger would be able to do his job? he’d be gettin more game time and hes better goin forward? just a thought but i dont like players bein played out of their positions.. number 1 is dan-agger no.2 is dan-agger no.3 is dan-agger no.4 is dan-agger WE ALL DREAM OF A TEAM OF DAN-AGGERS
Paddy - June 22nd, 2009 at 11:35 am
I think Agger could play dfensive midfielder but if we get Aguero we will have to drop a player out of centre midfield anyway and that would be Mascherano so he won’t be in the team if we get a striker anyway!
Aworinde Oladapo - June 22nd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
As for me, I believe that Benitez knows the best but he should find a suitable replacement for any player sold. Above all we need to replace for Reina.
Paddy - June 22nd, 2009 at 1:00 pm
We don’t really need to replace Reina cuz he is only 27 and for a goalkeeper that is young. We could get another 5 or 6 years out of him yet before he goes back to Spain so im not worried about getting a new keeper.
