The Rumour
Manchester United are being linked with an agreement for Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
Sport says Barcelona chose to up their new contract offer to Victor Valdes and secure the keeper to a deal after learning that Villarreal had agreed a fee with United for Lopez.
United are said to have a pre-contract agreement with the Yellow Submarines over a £17 million deal for Lopez.

The Analysis
You know when the transfer market has taken a turn for the worst and gone insane when Man United are apparently perfectly happy to pay £17m for a goalkeeper you have probably never heard of and who hasn’t even earned himself an International cap at age 27!
Is this an indication of how little regard Sir Alex has for his back up keepers? Edwin Van der Sar is 52 years old but Ben Foster isn’t too bad and in fact has a bright future, so why the hell would they entertain the notion of signing this giant of a keeper?
Well they probably aren’t going to make the move, although it has been reported everywhere, but surely Ferguson would be too shrewd to spend big on a player who is essentially a good player but not worth half the fee discussed!
The Likelihood
Lopez to Man United: Not at that price!

Baring in mind that were he to achieve an international cap he’d have to go up against Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina, its really not outwith the realms of possibility that he hasn’t been capped as he is running against one of the most (arguably the most) formidable goalkeeper in the world.
As well as this, last season Villareal only conceded two more goals than Real, this combined with the current inflation in the transfer market means that this really doesn’t seem like such a stupid punt after all.
