Fine bit of business from the Hammers boss
West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has made Inter Milan striker Luis Jimenez his first signing of the summer.
The Chilean, 25, joins the Hammers on a season-long loan with a view to a possible permanent move.
Jimenez, nicknamed the Wizard, will officially join the Premier League club on 1 July pending a successful medical.
“I can’t promise anything but I am going to everything possible to do a good job for the club,” Jimenez told West Ham’s website. (BBC Sport)
Gianfranco Zola may well have secured a very good deal for the club by bringing in Chilean attacking midfielder Jimenez to the club. Nicknamed ‘The Wizard’ the Inter Milan squad player made a name for himself at lowly Ternana before a succession of loan deals at Fiorentina, Lazio and then to the San Siro finally led to a permanent move to the Italian champions.
Injury in the first match of last season greatly hampered Jimenez’s progress under Jose Mourinho and the realization that he would find it tough to push himself up the pecking order probably led to him jumping at the chance of a move to the Premier League. The loan move also gives West Ham the option of sealing a permanent deal should they wish to do so, and such a deal is rumoured to be in the region of £6m.
