Liverpool Days Away From Frustrating £35m Midfielder Deal!
by Steven Constable on June 27th, 2009 281 words | 156 commentsNot good news if you’re a Reds fan!
The Rumour
Liverpool want £35 million for want-away midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Times says the Spain midfield player said his goodbyes to some members of the club’s staff last night.
However, Real Madrid, with whom the player has been linked, have not yet made an official offer.
Alonso’s relationship with Rafael Benítez has been troubled since the Liverpool manager began his pursuit of Gareth Barry last year. Although Benítez wants to keep the 27-year-old, there is a growing acceptance at Anfield that the player is likely to move to Real.
The Source: (Times Online as reported on Tribalfootball.com)
The Analysis
There are many sources who appear confident that Liverpool are ready to call it a day and give up on trying to convince Xabi Alonso that his future lies at Anfield and now many webites and newspapers are stating that now the Merseyside outfit is keen to get their money’s worth on the deal.
Rafa may feel that if he is resigned to losing one of either Xabi or Javier Mascherano then he would prefer to offload the Spaniard, something he came close to doing last summer. Obviously by selling Alonso Benitez secures himself some more spending money but will that really make up for losing such a talented member of his side?
The player’s agent has stated earlier this month that he wanted to leave the club and was keen on moving back to Spain and whilst it may be something the fans are not happy about it does seem eminently likely that he might have played his last game for the club.
The Likelihood
Alonso to Real Madrid: Quite possible.

this isnt good news at all xabi is the fulcrum of our team i am not impressed

35 million is not enough…for the best centre mid in the world rafa should demand at least 50.
if chelsea or united were in the same position of selling one their best players(ie ronaldo) then there is no way they would allow him to leave for so little.
everyone knows how much real have to spend so if they want to tap up our players and unsettle the brilliant spine that rafa has built over the last 5 years (mot to mention causing us to change our style of play etc.) then we have the right to take advantage of their enormous budget.
…in saying all that tho i can still see alonso with us next season.while his relationship with rafa may be strained rafa is a very stubborn man who will not be bullied by other clubs.also alonso is one of the most popular players liverpool have EVER had.i sincerely doubt he will get homesick etc because he often talks of how much he loves the city and the people.

How could he have said his goodbyes when he’s in South Africa preparing to plat in the 3rd place playoff’s against South Africa.
I don’t believe this until I see him revealed by Real MAdrid (or whoever) as their new player but until then, he’s LFC’s number 14 !!
Donavan Ried - June 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
I think that Alonso was a good player,Now lets sign a great player
lous - June 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
sadly i think alonso is going, and it would be good to get some cash for silva, aguero etc .. but then we’ll lose one of the best midfielders in the world. is it worth it?
craig - June 27th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
we have money for silva, if alonso goes, we will be looking at villa it would be a grate one out one in but alonso has been a key part of our midfeild and masch would be on his own infront of the defence
————–reina
johnson carra agger fabio
————-masch
——kuyt gerrard silva
———-torres villa
looks a grate line up but would gerrarrd be willing to go back to midfeild were he has to work a lot harder?
kermit - June 27th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
like who donovan????
mark - June 27th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
agree with heinz on this one. this story smells of BS. hope alonso stays and mash aswell but if i’d have to choose i’d say mash is slightly more replaceable.
looking forward to next season as long as we keep our main players and add a player of high quality like silva, we should be an even stronger contender for the title than last year. and can’t wait for united to fall to pieces within the next few years- no ronaldo no tevez, giggs, scholes, vsar, neville(shit anyway) retiring. the spine of their team will be ruined.
TEDSUZUKI - June 27th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Ahahahaha….this is another bullshit by someone with too much time on his hands!!!
Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I do not believe this story that he has said goodbye to some of the staff in person!!!Sure how could he when he is in South Africa ready to play the third place play-off!!!Bullshit!I still believe Alonso will be playing for Liverpool next year!!!
Xabi was my best player for last season- best long-range passer. Anfield can not lose one of it's best, at least not so cheap. Real should be ready for great deal! - June 27th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
And also if Kaka is worth 58 million Xabi is worth 45-50 million!!!!So if Madrid can’t offer around that he should not be going even though i don’t think he is anyway!
Kop 4 ever - June 27th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
if he is going to leave then at least get 50mill plus a decent player from madrid eg saviola or robben
lvslfc - June 27th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
i think xabi will stay. like many others have said how can hehave said goodbye personally when he is in south africa. i also think masch will stay but if i had to choose between the two to stay i would pick alonso as masch can be replaced more easily and i rate alonso more.
matty - June 27th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
£35 million is a lot of money guys. Considering Rafa was only asking for £17 million last season. Thats more than double we would have got 12 months ago if you do simple math. We can get one or even 2 class players with that money and concentrate on keeping Mascherano. As much as i love him, Alonso is easier to replace than Masch.
Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
The only player in my mind who can replace Alonso is Iniesta and we will never get him so we do have to keep him
Lincoln burrows - June 27th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I love alonso so much that if i am asked to choose b/w him and Gerrard, i will pick alonso. He is my best player in liverpool, my hero.
Anyway, i regret to say that this is looking more of a possibility as we have just confirmed the signing of david villa. Villa will arrive at anfield for his medicals by next week.
So alonso is likely to leave cos Gerrard will be pushed back to the midfield.
Villa is the new strike partner for Torres.
Ivan Weener - June 27th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Hello Lovely people,
I read this and think Oh No. I like Alonso a lot and think him good on balls. He good for Liverpool and I not want him to leave – could we swap him for another player if he not like it with guvnor no more. I heard he liked it first of all, but now he not like it. May be best to go now rather than droopy performance.
Is there anymore news about Silva and Villa? I heard we may bid 60 million for them. Will this sell give us money to buy these two? Also what is happening to Mach? Is he go too and for how much?
I think with Gerrard we have best midfielder in country, we should put in cheeky bid for Lampard or go for Italian Gatuso. Lampard sticks it in well and gatuso is nice and hard – I see them both action and them looks good.
I was out last night to honk horn to the news of Johnson signing. It make me proud. We sign good defender and we challenge for trophy next year.
Talk soon my lovely people. I make friends on here like AshT and Dom. Hello guys
Sunny Ralph - June 27th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Quite a pity we’ll be loosing one of the best holding mid fielder Anfield has groom. But we can’t force him to stay anyway since his heart already belongs to Real and d fact that he’s complaining of Uk Tax… what an excuse. I wish ALONSO all d best anyway cos his one of my favourite in Anfield…. We’ll Never Walk Alone….
Si - June 27th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Lincoln, your of your nut lad! alonso is great but hes not at gerrards level!
rafas our gafa and alonso wont be going anywhere unless hes got a replacement lined up or its a mega daft offer
TEDSUZUKI - June 27th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Relax….stick with Rafa’s words. he already said Masch and Alonso are not for sale. Unless of course Real Madrid is offering some ridiculous amount. 35 million is not ridiculous. So stay calm. ESPN soccernet, some of the more reliable sites have absolutely nothing on this. My hunch is that 98% this is pure bullshit. Alonso is not going anywhere and Real did not bid 35 million.
TEDSUZUKI - June 27th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I am very surprise that if this is real and if Madrid wants to leak this news, they are only prepared to tell of all the papers – the Times. Come on…….
Someone please tell those bored journalists to write something more exciting. Try something like Messi decided to sign for Liverpool.
Lincoln burrows - June 27th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
@ Si, hey! No qualms. I only said i love alonso more than Gerrard: it’s my choice. Okay!
Of course Gerrard is a better player and i also remember how he wanted to dump us for chelski.
Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Right then Lincoln Burrows where is it confirmed that we have signed Villa? Can’t wait to hear this answer!!!

Paddy, We sign Villa. This better news than Johnson news. Is this your person opinion or is it fact
Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
And by the way he didn’t want to leave Liverpool, Rick Parry just wasn’t getting the contract sorted out quick enough and Gerrard thought Liverpool didn’t want him anymore so shut the fuck up!!!!!

yeah a new rumour would be useful benzema to anfield with an up yours sign to saf
anonymous - June 27th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
This is just tabloids making a story up on a slow transfer day. For one, xabi is in south africa, how has he said goodbye to the liverpool staff. And also, the story has no quotes, which makes it look more likely to be made up.
Alex - June 27th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Ivan Weener i thought you said freddie died in a previous older post and now he has come back from the dead again, what the hell?
Ivan Weener - June 27th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Freddie is not dead. I not write comment. Dom did.

Ivan Weener - June 27th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Dear kermit
What is this Im listening about Liverpool signing Benzema???I already heard we may bid 60 million for Silva & villa..my friend Lincoln the Bullshitter said so
So now we sign benzema for ow much??
I was out last night to honk horn to the news of Johnson signing. So if this true then tonight I go wit freddie honking horns to the news of benzema, villa & silva joining Liverpool.. and i not tell mother too
Liverpool will certainly win everything this season…..
I think its time i save some money from my films and come to anfield so that I can support Liverpool with my new friends on here like AshT , Dom,Paddy, Lincoln the Bullshitter & Kermit…
And Freddie is not dead… dunno y naughty boy dom write funny comments about freddie… maybe dom does not like goats….

lets not forget that Agger had left and gone to AC Milan.. but then oh he signed an extension.. don’t believe this tabloid gossip,,,
GET REAL PEOPLE WE’LL WIN THE LEAGUE…..
A sleeping giant has awaken, this will not only be Liverpool’s year but starting from 2009-10 season they will dominate have faith.
In Rafa we trust
joe - June 27th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
if hes so adamant on leaving, then let him
with 35 mill we could buy a world class player like silva, villa, aguero
alonso is not world class but will be missed, but liverpool can not pass up 35 million on a mediocer player like alonso
Lincoln burrows - June 27th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Joe- do you watch football at all?
john - June 27th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
@ lincoln: gerrard never wanted to go. he has said that he was getting frustrated with liverpools lack of title challenge and mixed with them failing to table a reasonable contract offer he had to consider the idea when chelsea put in a huge offer for him. u would know this if u actually visited the LFC official site.
Paddy - June 27th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Well Dom i guess were not going to have to apologise to Lincoln at all!!!!!
Si P - June 27th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Can’t believe people still think Villa’s coming. How many times has he said that he wants to stay in Spain. He may have said this a few months ago when he thought he’d be off to Madrid, but to come out and say it this week … hardly likely that he has done a deal with us is it ?????
Valencia said they wouldn’t sell Silva this summer, unless the Villa deal fell through and they struck a deal with someone for Silva. The fact they are now saying Villa is not for sale suggests to me that a deal has been agreed for Silva with somebody.
As for Xavi, he is irreplaceable – he set our tempo last year and was the reason for our freeflowing passing. BUT if he wants to go, there’s little point in keeping him (Adebayor !). If this is the case, swap him and Arbeloa for Scheider and Higuain.
joe - June 27th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
yes i watch football all the time why?
Ash T - June 27th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
i heard that rafa wants silva but valencia are unwilling to sell so my friend told me that he heard some thing about rafa looking at ben arfa and cana(if mascherano goes)
i also heard that rafa wants to boost his english numbers for the champions league so he is looking at players like noble, cattermole, richards, steven taylor
i dont know how true this stuff his and i dont know much about ben arfa but i know cana would be a good cheap replacement for mascherano.

and how am i being stupid ben arfa and cana would be good players at liverpool cana got one hell of a tackle and is a leg braker and benarfa i dont not much about him but i heard he is like david silva and would just be a cheaper option than silva
joe - June 27th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
like u said they are good players, not brilliant players
liverpool dnt need to be spending more and more money on good players
we need brilliant players or be prepared for our brilliant players heading for the door!!!
Ash T - June 27th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
well i think cana would be a good replacement for mascherano and obviously i want villa and silva to come to liverpool but i doubt they will come

provide good competition for riera then

paddy – i like the back 5, but alonso gone mate so mascherano there,, and no not kuyt we need sneijder there. ur choice of strikers i like, wudnt mind any of them but spearing has no place on the bench YET but soon enuf he will, and negredo hmmm maybee
Ash T - June 27th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
my dream two signing would be aguero and silva i can see us getting both if alonso and mascherano goes but if mascherano goes then i dont think aguero would want to come
Ash T - June 27th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
though i dont think that mascherano will go any more cause yaya toure just signed a extention at barca so i think barca have droped there interest in mascherano cause rafa doesnt want to sell or wants to much if we do consider selling
joe - June 27th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
we dnt have the sort of money to accomodate aguero, he will cost at least 40mill and then his wages wud be at least 150k a week :/

i do think that alonso will end up going but i think mascherano will stay

theobaboo - June 28th, 2009 at 2:28 am
Has it occurred to anyone that this is just a tactic of RM to get their man. They are hell bent on getting XA and just as they did for CR7 they want to wear the club (LFC) down and turn the head of the player by constant press speculations. As one poster said above XA is in Africa preparing for a CC game with SA so how in hell did he say goodbye to club staff who are either in England or on holidays yesterday – beats me ——– hmm.
joe - June 28th, 2009 at 3:07 am
donovan reid – i dnt mean hes a mediocre player, all im saying is if liverpool can get 35 mill for him, then cash in NOW, then use that money to buy a young player whos good with bags of potential, alonso cud have a crap season next year and go for bout 15 mill, so cash in now i say

Lincoln burrows - June 28th, 2009 at 6:39 am
Donovan ried- how many clubs can pay £35m for a non world class player. Don’t be stupid!
Alonso is a world class player! … End of…
By the way, we have very few players who can replace alonso. Xavi, iniesta, fab, lampard and we can’t afford any.
Have you ever asked yourself why our team is always below par each time we don’t have Gerrard and alonso playing. Or were you not there at anfield(fulham), everybody was clamouring for the inclusion of alonso after our midfield was rubbish during the first half.
Your idea about world class players could be people that bang in goals all the time. But without good midfielders, there will be no good striker including your lovely Torres.
That said, it’s the midfielders that cordinates the activities of the entire team play.
I just thought i should educate you.
Fact - June 28th, 2009 at 8:59 am
We need to keep alonso as we all know how brilliant he has been playing for liverpool. Why take the risk of bringing in a replacement who might not be able to cut it or need time to gel or more than likely won’t be able to do a better job than alonso as i believe there is only a handfull out there who possibly could.
We all agree that the areas that need improving on are on the wings and in attack. Alonso’s departure would be a backward step, i hope it doesn’t happen.
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 11:23 am
That Wasn’t me!!!
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Right guys.
After surfing the net for todays news, I am very unsettled. Rumours have it that:
Man cit have signed tevez and eto
Arsenal are going to hijack man united bid for benzema
Chelsea are goung to pay big bucks for pato
And man u are going to up their bid for aguero.
What about us? We signed johnson WHOOPDEFUCKINGDOO!
If these clubs do indeed get these players we will be battling for 5th let alone 1st. We can’t allow these clubs to buy world class players while we do nothing. We need anothe r top notch striker, if other clubs can see it why can’t we. No wonder players are wanting to leave our club.
Donavan will agree… rafa needs to do everythin he can to sign villa, aguero and so on.
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
i think aguero is important dom what do you think???
hes several years younger, probably cheaper, there is less competition to buy him as he isnt in his prime yet unlike villa whi is 28ish(same age as keane)
also aguero could still link up with torres…
perfect signing if money can be found???
ps he said b4 he moved to atletico that he would love to play for liverpool…google it and you will see that rafa was offered him and said no
bad decision but not too late to fix as i still believe he would choose us over other english clubs he has been linked with because he said he likes us and could join teammates (insua masch torres) as well as many other spanish speaking players coaches etc.
my friend is spanish and told me that liverpool are by far the biggest english club in spain(no surprise)
therefore with a few sales(leto arbeloa dossena voronin possibly even riera/benayoun(i have a feeling that might be controversial but im not a fan of benayoun) +20m leftover) we could definitely get aguero and if we were really lucky maybe silva?but defo 1(aguero)
thoughts?(especially dom and donavon as they are defo respected on this site)
daboy - June 28th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
I think if Madrid offer 35 mill pound i think liverpool should take it and buy Silva and buy the best replacement they can afford plus Heinze.
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Don’t forget that aguero is torres’s old strike partner. Athletico fans would feel that if they are to lose aguero to any club, the best choice would be liverpool.
And he is a player who will only get better. Only concern is that where he is so young it could be a mistake bringing him to the epl to quickly. But they said the same about torres.
We could have signed aguero for 18mil when he was 17…
I think we should make a cash + player bid for him.
Whoever we sign he has to be first rate. If we don’t sign a top notch striker then we are going to be in big trouble next season, espec with all the clubs around us bein linked with big names
redscrotum - June 28th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
if alonso goes , bring in jo cole.
Chelsea > Liverpool - June 28th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
yeah dom i’m sure thats exactly whay atletico fans would think about losing a second star striker to the same club….they would fukn hate yas!!
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
i agree dom cash + player is probably the best option considerin are lack of funds and it worked with torres…
atletico may be willing to take a risk on voronin.they valued luis garcia at 4m and thats roughly what voronin is worth.
also i think a swap lucas + pos.2-3m for javi martinez from bilbao might be good.or even loan lucas to a lower prem club.tottenham have problems in midfield and birmingham sunderland hull etc would always welcome a brazilian.
ngog would defo benifite from a loan to any lower club
babel also defo needs a loan as i cant see him getting more playing time.i honestly believe if he plays every single game he could be amazing.
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
actually chesea < liverpool we have an excellent relationship with atletico if you saw the 2 games between us this year you would no…and that was without torres even playing
Chelsea > Liverpool - June 28th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
i watched the game that keane scored in, but not the second leg….i cant see this ‘excellent relationship’ enduring if liverpool keep taking their players…besides, they are saying 45mil isnt enough, you would have to match his buyout clause and compete with other clubs which would be nudging a simply ridiclous price which liverpool wouldnt pay let alone afford
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
the atmosphere was amazing and even when atletco scored the livepool fans applauded and vice versa.thats a good relationship.
also atletico said that they would be willing to listen to offers.if we had to match his buyout clause they would simply say not for sale.if they were wiling to listen to offers and then demanded his clause that would be retarded as the fact that they would accept that offer goes without saying as they have to
therefore he is available.
also the fact that we would be in competition with other clubs wouldnt be a problem because of the explanation i gave in an earlier post…
Chelsea > Liverpool - June 28th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
yeah but if the rumoured 45mill offer from united has any substance then you are priced out straight away, not matter how good a relationship u have…
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
we may be priced out…i wont lie to you
but there are ways in which a big money move is possible.
we have roughly 20m left
the yanks sold a different club poss. +10m
sell babel(12),leto(3)itandje(3),benayoun(8),arbeloa(8),dossena(6)
this adds up to 70m without any particularly drastic loss.even if the yanks give nothing(likely) and and babel stays we would still have roughly 48m to bid 4 aguero.
im not saying we will get aguero, but if rafa REALLY wanted him we could.
and if atletico hate us for it ill live
just imagine how much money we would have if i included sales of aloonso and masch in that.roughly 100m and yaya toure, bojan heinze, sneijder, negredo, robben
wouldnt be a bad window if that 100m went on:
aguero(50)
silva(25)
centre midfielder(25)
we would defo have a decent chance with gerrard sneijder yaya toure and 1 other as mids and bojan aguero and torres up front.
sounds good
dom?
Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Who the f**ck is this Chelsea fan? I mean know one wants to hear what he has to say, he takes the piss all the time and yet not one other Chelsea fan backs him up. Personally, I just think he has nothing better to do but to try and converse with us as all the other Chelski fan’s probably reject him. Mate know one care what you have to say…
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Chelsea. Aguero could just say he doesn’t wanna play for man united, so athletico wouldn’t sell him.
And the relationship is a good one between the 2 clubs. I connstantly watch the documentaries on the relationship between us. Athletico fans see liverpool as their 2nd team.
Plus. Aguero is a liverpool fan, so I think he will be a premier league player in a couple of years, and we will buy him when the option is cheaper.
Chelsea, thanks for holding a decent discussion
Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
FT9 as much as I respect your insight I cannot see this happening, at the worst Xabi will leave, but I dont think Masch will. I personally dont want Aguero, Id rather get David Silva, Mata and probably Negredo and(or) Huntellar etc.
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
theres no point in getting angry with him warren.
i dont know why he is posting on liverpool but id say its to piss us off
so just ignore what he has to say or actually try and prove him wrong…
what do you think of our chances of gettin aguero?
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
i just saw your second comment there so my bad
i like mata and silva and negredo but i have never been a fan of huntelaar
maybe if hes cheap he would be good tho…esp. with his height seein as we now hve johnson and hopefully a winger to cross
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Sounds very good. However, arbeloa is injured and needs a knnee op, and chances are we will keep dossena now…
We cnt sell babel either
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
i also dont think alonso and masch will leave maybe 1…
hopefully none tho as they are incredible together
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
when did arbeloa get injured…and i hope dossena can find another club if juve have lost interest as reported
GERRARD BOSS - June 28th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Sell Alonso and buy Ronaldinho from AC Milan. They would probably sell him. He would be a great second striker, behind Torres.
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
1 of my comments is waiting moderation.
Arbeloa is injured so we wnt b able 2 sell him.
Negredo? Lol that’s laughable. We need world class. And as for silva, I dnt see the hype. Riera is keepin him out the spain team. He had an awful season.
I want to see, aguero, eto or villa
Then I want backup for wings, so sessagnon or lavezzi.
Finally, silva. Not cos I feel he is better than riera. But bcos he can play CM, LM, RM and SS
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
ronaldinho actually might not be a bad move providing he isnt 2 expensive…
he is obviously an unbelieveable footballer even if his form has dipped
he might relish the chance 2 prove himself in the premiership and a new start might be necessary before the world cup.
aurelio and lucas would ease the move and robinho would be nearby as would elano jo etc.
could be brilliant as long as he isnt alonsos replacement.
i cant see it happenin tho
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
FT.
He was playin with his kids and damaged his knee. It’ll be several months before he’s playin.
Warren, negredo wud be good cover, but not as a full time partner.
We shud keepmasch or alonso and sell the other. Then have 1 holding midfielder and 2 strikers.
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
that could be a big loss this window if we cant move either full back on
between them they could have financed sessegnon
unfortunately lavezzi move is dead.
negredo is defo not worthy of a starting place even if he is rated highly in spain.
real havent signed him yet so why should we?
even with ronaldo and kaka i think we are a better side.
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Lol ronaldinho is past it and wnt hack it in the prem now. Kinda like davids to tottenham.
FT9 - June 28th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
ye i doubt rafa would even consider it anyway so i think we r pretty safe…
i just hope rafa is supported by the yanks(who i have renewed confidence in)
AND that he buys real quality…we shall see
anyway im off tty all later
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
If we don’t buy Silva and a world class striker(Eto’o,Villa,Aguero) we will not win the league and Man City could very nearly push us out of the top 4!So we need to buy Silva and one of them strikers to stand any chance!!
Fact - June 28th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Paddy are you on something or what, are you trying to tell me that if we kept the same team that finnished the season off the strongest by a long shot that we could well finnish fith. Well everyday i read some shit or other on this site but that last comment from you is definiteley a top 10 load of bollox comment.
Gerry - June 28th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Man City will will be 1st next year… Eto and Tevez have signed and Silva is on his way. Looks like you’ve missed out.
I tell you what – why don’t you Liverpool fans write some begging letters to Man Cs board… you never know they may let you have some spare change… may even be enough for you to buy Villa.
Hahahahaha – you have nothing… Man C are the future.
Ivan W - June 28th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
Hello lovely people,
I hope in my heart that Liverpool sign Tevez, but now it look like Man City sign. I think this prove that he want just money. He play well for Man U, but me thinks he only play well for new contract. I now glad that Liverpool not touch this money man. This is bad thing in football and the likes of Man C, Chelsea and Real Madrid only incourage.
Now I feel sad.
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Sorry, aurelio is injured so we r keeping dossenaa
Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Man City, hahahah. I love it you fans are arguing about the quality of Dunne in 2005, suggesting he is 1 of the best in the prem. Now with all of ur pennies u wanna see the back of him! Ur all just glory hunters, who are taking the respect and beauty of the game. Well, this is not aimed at all of you of course but u r in danger of becoming the second generation of Chelsea fans. C’mon we all hate them and your cockyness really is not helping ur cause. Yes, you have money, yes you have a bright future, however you should show respect to your superiors lads, we are the most succesfull team in english history…FACT! Tell me how many european cups have you won? I mean did you lot even qualify for the europa league this season. OH and as for the big bucks, wht kinda team spend £14m on Craig Bellamy? Or £17m on Nigel De Jong? Oh and i forgot didn’t you spend £19m on Jo Alves? Geese ur just a club trying to buy success, your get no one with this mentality. Sorry Lads. Besides aren’t we supposed to be united against the mancs? Didn’t Robbie Fowler play for you? C’mon show some respect, and respect will be shown in kind.
Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Sorry about earlier Dom, just that Chelsea fan annoyed me with his comments. As for Negredo and my earlier suggestions, I agree I would prefer Eto’o, Aguero etc. However, we do not have the money do we. Dom c’mon I as much as anyone would love to see Aguero and Sessegnon sign. I have said before that Sessegnon is my one to watch and I would be exstatic if he signed for ‘pool but have you heard anything. I only said Negredo because he is a good striker who could provide cover and he would be realistic. YET this summer will be more linked with who might go rather than who we might buy. Dont u agree?
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Well fact:If we keep the same team Man Utd will finish above us as they did last year, Chelsea only finished 3 points behind us and they have over 100 million to spend so they will finish ahead of us cuz they will get Pato ect…,then arsenal had alot of players injured last season like Rosicky,Gallas for the end,Sagna for parts,Clichy for the end,Walcott for 3 months and Eduardo for half of it and then finally City have bought Tevez,Eto’o,Barray and Santa Cruz so yes i think we could finish fifth if we kept our team from last season!!!!!
kermit - June 28th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
agrees with gerrard boss ronaldhino is worth a punt for 12 million, he could on form fill gerrards boots and always played left midfield at barca
and i still have a sneaky feeling we ll sig tevez, esp if city sign eto o, roque robinho tevez and eto o all for two maybe three positions
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
I agree warren.
In regards to signings, I believe that if a player doesn’t get into their national team, then we shouldn’t buy them.
Wait till nxt week, we may all b suprised
kermit - June 28th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
unless we nabbed robinho quite cheap for our left hand side, cant see this happening but he is a good player
Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Fair enough Dom, as you know I have always respected your views. And I agree with your assesment of International players etc. However, I just feel that striker is not aur main problem, because wingers are a must personally I would like to see Sessegnon and Adam Johnson, a great young winger who will be 1 for the future. Bu yes I do gennerally agree with you Dom, and hopefully ‘pool will have more activity in the transfer market next week. Though Im not complaining about Glen Johnson, I think he will turn out to be great signing. What do you think?
Chelsea Boy - June 28th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Hello,
I would just like to say that all Liverpool fans are retards if they think they will sign Villa and Silva.
You’ll be last in the queue for their signatures behind Chelsea, Man U, Man C, Ports, Villa…. all other Premier league tems, Newcastle, Reading, WBA!
Not a chance. If they are coming to England then it’ll be chelsea. They can live in a real city, get paid a decent wage and work with a successful manager not some Spainish failure!!!
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Robinho is amazing. Wud take him
Chelsea Boy - June 28th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Dom – is that you coming out in your admission that you would “take” Robinho. Always thought you were that way. All Liverpuds are!!!
Dom - June 28th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Kuyt is gonna get more goals now johnson is playing on his side. Johnson will make us more attacking.
I feel a striker is our main worry. Kuyt on the wing got mor goals than any other winger except ronaldo. Riera terrorised defences and is spains 1st choice.
Why r we playin 2 defensive midfielders against teams like stoke?
My opinion is, if we had another great striker we wudda won the prem. Look @ all the chances keane missed, the games torres was injured and the games where teams just defended against us. We need 1 holding midfielder, which id prefer alonso and another striker.
Sessagnon wud be wicked, I always wanna see a skillfull player
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Chelsea boy you fucking retard Newcastle,WBA and Reading are in the championship you dumb fuck!!!!!
Burton - June 28th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Chelsea Boy is just jelous he decided to go to Man City instead of Chelsea
Lucky Man - June 28th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
I would just like to say that I am the reason all the teams have been successful.
In the 80s I supported Liverpool and got bored after they won everything
In the 90s I supported Man U and got bore with them after they won everything
In the early 00s I supported Chelsea
In the mid 00s I went back to Man U
I think I will support Man City next season as I think the other will all be shit.
Chelsea Boy - June 28th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Paddy you double retard… where did I say they were not???
I said Chelsea, Man U, Man C, Ports, Villa…. all other Premier league tems, Newcastle, Reading, WBA!.
I did not say Newcastle, Reading and WBA were prem clubs. You should learn to read English properly.
And btw – I also wish to add Leeds, Scunthorpe and Halifax to clubs that you are behind!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Lucky man your obviously not a proper football fan if you swap round teams like that!It is stupid! If you were a proper football fan you would have supported 1 team your whole life!!!!Retard!!
Lincoln burrows - June 28th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Good signing!! Liverpool is close on securing the services of former world player of the year. Ronaldinho, who will be the third signing for the reds after johnson and villa, will arrive at anfield as a possible replacement for alonso who is due to leave for madrid this summer.
matty - June 28th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Lincon Burrows you are an utter bell. We wont get Ronaldinho and won’t get Villa. Unfortunately. We might get Silva and that’s a big might.
Fact - June 28th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Paddy not all these players comming in are going to necessarilly be successful we allready have johnston so things arn’t bad for liverpool if anything things are comming together nicely be patient.

Now Lincoln, Im not going to be as dis-respectful as others have been and will be the first to congratulate you if your predictions are correct. I would love it if we were to sign Villa and Ronaldinho next week. Yet, I think I speak for all of us when I ask where you get your sources from?
Lincoln burrows - June 28th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
My sources are from rafa benitez dot com
Marc - June 28th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
silva is not a good replacement 4 alonso. alonso is a passing ace, he carves open a midfield with his passing, he is steady under pressure, and hell always nick a few goals each season. silva is a very average left winger 4 spain. not like reira who is quick, will get a cross in and has a thunderous left foot. has any1 noticed that we are severly lacking a natural and talented right winger????
i love kuyt 4 his effort, and he is a key part ofd the squad, but we need a natural right winger….like pennent but with skill
allahs boot - June 28th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
fact=alonso and mascherano will not be sold.
Paddy - June 28th, 2009 at 9:44 pm

Warrenisaredfan - June 28th, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Lincoln burrows – June 28th, 2009 at 6:39 am ….. “Donovan ried- how many clubs can pay £35m for a non world class player. Don’t be stupid!”……. Stupidity is calling a player that would not get into a World 22 side (11 starters and 11 subs) a “World Class” player. Hell, he is so world class that he rarely makes it into the Spainish First 11
When we lose Alonso perphaps we can put in a bid for Mikel Arteta.
Donavan Ried - June 29th, 2009 at 1:53 am
Good evening Dom,
Dom – June 28th, 2009 at 11:41 am ….” What about us? We signed johnson WHOOPDEFUCKINGDOO!
If these clubs do indeed get these players we will be battling for 5th let alone 1st. We can’t allow these clubs to buy world class players while we do nothing. We need anothe r top notch striker, if other clubs can see it why can’t we. No wonder players are wanting to leave our club.” ………. I think that both you and i have been banging on about this long enough, along with others like JCWW,Steve Mc Mahon, Kermit,9torres and others…. If Glen Jonhson is Rafa idea of one of the two top signings then Liverpool fans must be perpared to bend over and pull both butt cheeks apart, becuase we are screwed, ….. Said this before If not for the injuries to Joe Cole, Didier Drogba, Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien Chelsea would have won the Premier League by miles. Our second place was very much down to this, plus a lack of attacking football earlier in the season……
joe – June 28th, 2009 at 3:07 am …… I know joe, and i understand the point that you were making
Chelsea > Liverpool - June 29th, 2009 at 2:05 am
donavan that is the most sense anyone has made on here in weeks….something i have tried to convey time and time again but certain ppl think that liverpool have the best player in the world in every position…i wind ppl up on here because of that ignorance but i would prefer to see liverpool succeed than i would manure….liverpool need to make a big signing, as do chelsea
Donavan Ried - June 29th, 2009 at 2:05 am
Dom – June 28th, 2009 at 12:56 pm …….. Rafa could always offer Bable + Cash for Aguero
Lincoln burrows - June 29th, 2009 at 3:38 am
Donovan ried- the worst part is that you think you know anything about football. You know fuck all.
Hey! There are different departments in a team and none is more important.
Just like you have your head, nose, mouth, ears, body, they all have different functions of which you can’t wholly do without any of them.
Fact: johnson is a top notch signing. He will boost our attack and he is better than what we already have in that position.
I also got the definition of your world class players- only 22 in number. In that case, aguero is not a world class player cos he wouldn’t get into a world 22 side. Same goes for tevez, rooney, drogba, essien, pirlor, casillas, eto et al cos these players wouldn’t get into world current 11 starters and 11 subs.
You guys make so much noise here about how bad we really need a striker. But i have to agree only with Fact who said that top creative wingers are our priority.
We lost the league cos we drew so many games we should have won. Torres featured in Most of those games we drew.
We drew those games not because we failed to convert the chances we got but because we couldn’t break those teams and create enough chances. And it all boils down to lack of creative wingers and rafa’s tactical blunder in those matches.
Chelsea > Liverpool - June 29th, 2009 at 5:55 am
i reckon liverpool created heaps of chances in most of those draws….its just they kept hitting the fucking posts….so going by that, you need players that can actually hit the back of the net!!
Lincoln burrows - June 29th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Chelsea<liverpool- Torres featured in those games. So hitting the posts can be an unlucky day for any team. In those games, we ran out of ideas. We resorted to long balls into their boxes and on few occasions, we luckily hit the crossbar.
Have you ever watched the mancs or arsenals play against these teams? They break them down, destabilize them, confuse them and even make them score own goals. A player like ronaldo(winger) or messi(also a winger) is enough for us to win the league.
Lincoln burrows - June 29th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Lets get this straight!! Who do we have as our wingers? Kuyt & riera. These players wouldn’t even make it to world 200 players. Not even 22.
Oh! They say that Kuyt works so hard. Bollox!!
All he does is to run around the pitch chasing defenders with the ball but he never wins the ball. I’ve never seen Kuyt take on players in his life. A winger must be skillful!!! Kuyt has got no pace. Each time they pass the ball to Kuyt, he passes it backwards. He never moves forward with the ball. He is a striker not a winger.
As for riera, he is nothing extraordinary. Hardly makes impact to our games.
How about lucas? Each time he plays, i assume we are one man down. The worst midfielder i’ve ever seen.
The few times i saw babel play as a striker, he didn’t do that bad. He needs a little improvement and coaching on that striking department.
So Kuyt and babel can assume that position when Torres is injured.
Yup! Torres and villa the world’s best strikers feature against the yanks in the confed cup and they still flopped
You can now see why i said we need creative/quality wingers in our team.
redscrotum - June 29th, 2009 at 9:40 am
reckon yur right there lincoln, everyones forgotten that kuyt and babel came as strikers and as such play like strikers. we can not accept kuyt as our right winger, even he knows hes treading water in that position, thats where we’re one man short. with raffas well known “out of position” policy, who knows he might play johnston on the wing and leave arby where he is? stranger things have happenned. like yur style lincoln.
Donavan Ried - June 29th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Lincoln burrows – June 29th, 2009 at 3:38 am ……. “Donovan ried- the worst part is that you think you know anything about football. You know fuck all.” …….
Lincoln burrows, Show me one example on this site where i claim to “know anything about football”. If you read my pervious post you will quite offen read me quoting that either ……”I do not claim to know everything about football” or ………….”this does not mean that my comment is more valid that anyone else’s”…….
“Hey! There are different departments in a team and none is more important.
Just like you have your head, nose, mouth, ears, body, they all have different functions of which you can’t wholly do without any of them.” ……
Yes, You get no arguement from me there
“Fact: johnson is a top notch signing. He will boost our attack and he is better than what we already have in that position”…..
I would not call Johnson top notch. And as i have perviously said that if he is Rafa’s idea of a top signing then we are screwed. ….Glen Johnson when playing for Chelsea was always good going forward. Where his fualts lay was defending, Often caught ball watching…. Yes he had a good season for Portsmouth but he as yet to prove that he as improved on that asspect of his game.
” In that case, aguero is not a world class player cos he wouldn’t get into a world 22 side. Same goes for tevez, rooney, drogba, essien, pirlor, casillas, eto et al cos these players wouldn’t get into world current 11 starters and 11 subs.”
Yes, I agree these players would not get into a world 22 (Maybe Eto would). The point is that. Agurero of whom i have said that he has the potential become better than Mario Kempes, Ariel Ortega,The Angel Gabriel(Gabriel Batistuta),Hernán Crespo even the great Diego Maradona himself, but and it is a big BUT, He has not done anything on the world stage to prove himself yet.
My points are
(1) People here throw the words “World Class” around like confetti at a wedding …
I’ve heard people here say Amir Zacki is World Class. …. Please!
(2) As I have stated,How can you call Alonso “World Class” when he struggles to get into the Spainish starting 11?….
(3) “World Class” should mean just that “World Class”…..
here is a post that i put out under the heading of “Liverpool Snatch £17m Star From Under Chelsea’s Noses”. in which i try to deal with this very same subject. ….

Now the thing that gets me iwth this site is that nearly everyone here thorws the word “World Class” around about nearly every player. |Then using this word people consider two things (1) If picking a Team of 11 players and 11 sub (Two in each postion would you put that player in there (2) Just because a player plays for his country it does no mean that he is “World Class” in fact weshould call them either
(1) World Class ( Would walk in to a World 22 side)
(2) Continental Class (Regular, or plays for thier country, or in a top Club in Europe’s Champions League)
(3) League Class ( Spl,Epl,Dutch,Italian, French,Spanish etc, above average players)
(4) Squad player (speaks for it’s self)
(5) Lower league player
If anyone can come up with a better way to describe them please feel free…
I envite you all to chipping with your suggestions this includes the staff at Cuaght offside and other teams supporters
“You guys make so much noise here about how bad we really need a striker. But i have to agree only with Fact who said that top creative wingers are our priority.” …..
Some asked here recently which type of player was more important to break down defences, a Striker, Midfielder, or winger…. I will answer that now… A Striker,Why?… Becuase they are nearly always the first to come in contact with the defenders and the focal point of the attack. This is why we need a “Continental Class plus” striker, ….. There is also the fact that if Torres gets injuried we need someone that can fill his roll.
“We lost the league cos we drew so many games we should have won. Torres featured in Most of those games we drew.”
This was down in part to the teams we put out, and in the main to the negative sytle of football and appoarch to the games
“We drew those games not because we failed to convert the chances we got but because we couldn’t break those teams and create enough chances. And it all boils down to lack of creative wingers and rafa’s tactical blunder in those matches.” ……
You are partly right here and partly wrong…”We drew those games not because we failed to convert the chances we got” …..Wrong, You have to covert those chances to win games…..
“because we couldn’t break those teams”… Right, becuase if you can’t break teams down you can not score….
“it all boils down to lack of creative wingers” 50/50 here creative wingers help, but so do creative wingback, midfielders, and attackers, as can goalkeepers looking for quick breaks….
“rafa’s tactical blunder in those matches.”… For the greater part of games, a resounding Yes….

Dream on you liverpool fans. Can’t see you doing much next season unless you turn some of these transfer rumours in to reality. You needs to sign two wingers and a striker to even come close to united and chelsea.
OK, there are rumours about United and Chelsea signing players, but the lack of fans excitement over them shows how advanced their supporters are. They are used to names being linked to them, and quotes and misquotes being written in the press. The FACT that you liverpool fans jump up and down waiving your pants on the sniff of a rumour simply pays homage to the fact that you are still an emerging club in the Premiership. Chelsea and United have simply been there and done it…. Liverpool haven’t!!!
Win the Premiership and then see if you are intereseted everytime you hear a rumour.

First off, alonso for £30 million is not a good deal, he is one of the best midfielder in the world, and deserves to be in a good team, ok he is at liverpool right now, at the most successful European team in the world, but if he wants to leave now, then why say all that bullshit about, “We are going to win the premier league next year, if we keep all our key players”, and if he does go, our asking price was £17 million last year, and now his worth £30, like not every player in the world gets rated by an extra £13 million each season, and yes he did fall out with rafa, cause he was going to get off loaded for a unsuccessful gareth barry chase, real madrid are mad, they brought ronaldo for £80 million, kaka for £59 million (or £56) benzema for £30, and alonso is far by better then benzema, benzema is just good at shooting and his young so he has a good future ahead of him, like our Krisztian Nemeth, ok alonso’s been in our club for now like 5 years, and why end such a great career all for the sake of playing alongside ronaldo, kaka, benzema, and you never know, its also could be for the money, i heard that ronaldo was getting payed £11 a year, now that is alot. So if we do offload him then i think we should tease real to increase the bid to £35-40-45 or even £50 million, then we can buy a new striker, and a midfielder. But it is up to Rafa and alonso weather if his going to go or not, not up to us fans, but if he goes, he knows that he will be remembered, and if he stays then he will be praised and fans will love him for his decision, we already sold arebloa, even though he was one of the sucesfullest defenders to hold off messi after we won 2-1, like if you look at man u, evra couldn’t do shit, let messi pass so many times that even the midfield had to help out, bosingwa, well he tryed but failed, everytime he tryed tackling him, he’d always get cagght on a foul, but arebloa, well he played good, and £4.5 million, is not in his catergory, something like £7-8-11 million should seal his services, and both clubs will be happy, although he did have 1 year left and the arrival of glen johnson, also dossena wants out, he wants to go back to italy, if he does go, and aureilo stays injured, then who are we going to play, stephen darby?, his a youngster we need someone with experience, anyways we made £4.5 million on arebloa, and dossena’s close so add another £6 million, include that to alonso’s £30 million, what do we have, a total of £40.5 million, for only 3 players, that is not bad, and remember when rafa said, after we signed glen johnson, we have enough funds for another £20-25 million singing, well we already sold players, so we have got £40.5 million, add another £20-25 million, and we have £60-65.5 million of spending money, now we start thinking of transfers, we can affored david villa and splash out £37-44 million offer, and that is alot of money, then we have around £28 million left, with that money we can offer inesta doubt that he will come but we can try a £25-28 million offer, if rejected then david silva, £23-26 million, but if still rejected then offer Alberto Aquilani, his good, and we can build him up to become a better player then alonso, but if we do prise away david villa, then that means gerrard has to go back to the midlle, were he does more work, will he like that, becasue even though torres and villa, are rated one of the best duos in the world, gerrard and torres are also rated the same, but if we get silva and villa, then left mid silva, right mid, kuyt, center, gerrard, and macherano, villa and torres up front, or we can do, 4-3-3, silva left centre, kuyt, right centre, and macherano in the middle, with, torres in the middle, gerrard on right, and villa on left, there easy the only hard work is, if the players decline the offer :S, thank you for reading this, goodbye and have a nice day
