Manchester United Set to Sign Former Liverpool Legend: Unbelievable!
by Mr Comfort on July 2nd, 2009 257 words | 50 commentsAm I drunk, did I read that correctly?
Michael Owen has been linked with a host of clubs since it became apparent that he was not going to renew his contract with Newcastle united which expired this week, but no reported were dedicated to suggestions that Manchester United were among potential bidders.
Punters in the United Kingdom, though, have begun backing the former England striker for an unlikely move to Old Trafford. Leading bookmakers have therefore reduced the odds on an incredible switch occurring.
Sky Bet, for instance, have slashed the odds on the switch from 20-1 to 7-4, after United missed out on the high profile signing of Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyonnais, with big-spending Spanish giants Real Madrid trumping the Red Devils with an audacious and lucrative bid. (goal.com)
Incredible! Could it be true? Has Michael Owen placed all these bets himself in some weirdly crazy way to convince Sir Alex to sign him. The last I heard he was trying to secure a move to Stoke City and Hull so how this has suddenly manufactured itself is frankly bizarre.
One thing is for sure, betting shops don’t usually get things wrong and if they have dropped the price it will be for a good reason. I do think that the former Liverpool hero still has a few good years in him and if he stays injury free he is still a 20 goal a season man, but the chances of him remaining fit and well are pretty slim given his propensity for falling foul to niggling injuries!

Ha, fergie’s gone senile. Owen must know that joining utd would turn any remaining lfc fans who dont hate him, against him permanently.
Bad enough that he chose to leave the way he did(Yeah i’ve heard all the old shit about us delaying on offering him a contract, but bollocks. End of story is Rafa had a meeting with him gerrard and carra when he arrived, and owen’s mind was allready made up.)
Signing for Everton would be less offensive. On then plus side i would be very underwhelmed if we signed him, so our main rivals signing him doesn’t fill me with fear, simply disgust at one of our former favoured sons gone bad.
Owen and Valencia, it doesn’t quite strike fear like ronaldo and tevez did. Fergie has gone senile, utd to finish third next season.

Seriously if united sign him they might do all right next season. If ade leaves, I was kinda hoping arsenal would sign michael owen as a replacement. Oweb is one of Englands best strikers ever afterall, if he could regain his old form he would have all the chances in the world at arsenal. Even if he doesnt regain it he is a natural finisher, so his pace doesnt becoem such a problem as the rest of the team could do the leg work for him.

Could be a win win situation, if they offer him a low basic wage and give him and big goal bonus. They won’t have to pay for him, if he flops then you just lost the wages you’ve paid him which could be made back through re-sale.
On the other hand this owen, he was previously one of the best english strikers ever. He’s 29 and with the right guidance he could regain he former class for a few more seasons and if anyone can do that its SAF.
Plus he was only poor through the last few seasons because he was at newcastle who are nearly as pathetic as rafael benitez.
And he doesn’t even need to score 20 goals a season, just be gould enough to get a few goals when he’s needed as he won’t be first team. And winning the leage will be easy this season anyway as ancelotti will need time to settle in and arsenal need a few more seasons of experience before they are back up there and liverpool will struggle to win anything without getting a decent manager especially as masch and xabi look like they are going.
lets bomb old trafford - July 2nd, 2009 at 11:32 pm
anoymous lol u united twat hows it gnan be easy for u? u have a striker who doesnt move a player who scored 3 goals for wigan last season ancient scholes and ancient giggs carrick who does fk all the brazillian mush anderson who doesnt score and rooney whos just a twat so where are your goals going to come from? and xabi and masch arnt leaving rafa has publicly said there not for sale!

i luv united there av said it
jk - July 3rd, 2009 at 1:08 am
i’d hate see go there he can still score goals and would be a great player to come off the bench
cant see it happen though
slicky4 - July 3rd, 2009 at 1:37 am
FAIR PLAY FERGIE…..im obviously a massive LIVERPOOL FAN if any of u have read my posts…..the whole tevez dibarcle……OWEN will score goals when fit an able…..at madrid he was wasted, newcastle was a bad move, they didnt play to his benefits,
OWEN is a natural goal scorer same as FOWLER…..utd will get him fit and motivated again……yeah he may end up at our sworn enemies…….BUT the bigger picture OWEN may end up donning the 3 LIONS shirt again in a world cup year…….ive always admired him, and if he ends up at utd to further his career then fair play…….LIVERPOOL FANS we don’t wanna stoop to utd’s level in boooin past players…..we have ALWAYS had a good reputation of clappin and sing songs of past players lets keep that goin, its not about pride its about being the bigger man……..and LIVERPOOL FC are the BIGGEST……………YNWA
Anonymous - July 3rd, 2009 at 6:49 am
lets bombold trafford – your right i retract that statement it won’t be easy chelsea will fight us all the way. And you obviously don’t know what your on about as ronney is one of the best forwards in the prem along with torres (although they have different styles). Berbs might be slow but he got 12 goals and 10 assissts last season which is alright considering he had to adjust to uniteds style, he was unfit when he joined cos spurs didn let him play at the start of the season and tevez had a fair bit of time on the field to. carrick the best english holding midfield player, anderson is young and learning and having giggys and scholes is just a bonus in depth. and who listens to benitez he such a twat always spitting out his dummy and how long has it been since he won anything with liverpool mate worst manager out the top 4
Chris - July 3rd, 2009 at 7:30 am
Hahahahaha is this for real? Maybe fat fergie is just doing it for the new champions league rule.
Burton - July 3rd, 2009 at 8:39 am
I think this just shows that Sir Alex and Manchester have no respect for Liverpool at all, if this is the case why can’t we put a bid in for Carlos Tevez, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Liverpool to Manchester. Manchester to Liverpool.
Red not dead - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:12 am
Owen will be a great signing for which ever club he goes to and if Liverpool don’t want him then I don’t see why he can’t go to Man U, at the end of the day he has to look after his own career and he has the chance to go to either Hull or Man U, tough choice; I think he will handle the boos.
If he is that good Rafa can sign him, I am sure he would rather come back home. At the end of the day he played 65 games for NUFC and scored 30 goals, that is still 1 in 2 (not bad)
Pay as you play; I wish all players were on that
Dom - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
Lmao. Owen has passed his initial medical at the club. He will have a further medical today.
What a crap signing this will be for them.
jk - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:22 am
this wont ressurect his england career he will be on the bench
good fo united
DM - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:30 am
there loss! clear signs fergie and manure r losin it, they can have him!!! i dont mind if he chooses them over hull etc… but i wont boo him, obviously fergies summer is goin down the pan and this is his last option
TF - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:38 am
Haha owen to utd plenty of own goals mickey we know you can do it
Greg - July 3rd, 2009 at 9:53 am
@Burton….
“Why can’t we bid for Carlos”…. You are an idiot Burton…. how did manu stop you bidding for Tevez. United don’t even own Tevez and therefore had no way of saying Liverpool are not allowed to bid!!! You are a dickweed
Greg - July 3rd, 2009 at 10:00 am
Hey Dom,,,, At least manu are signing players – 1 already in the bag and a freebee ex-england striker on the way. OK, I admit that the owen signing is a gamble, but you’ll only have his wages to lose and lets face it united are now saving a fortune on hair gel and spot cream now that ronaldo has left!!!
Rooney and Owen have played together before at international level. Owen is a proven goal scorer.
I’m sticky my neck out and saying… big gamble but worth it Fergie!

Joao Moutinho: Liverpool to Snatch £18M Stylish Long-Term Everton Target?
Decent player and at 22 young but 18mill a bit pricey what do you think
Burton - July 3rd, 2009 at 10:25 am
@ Greg. sorry what i meant to say was that he didnt want to come to Liverpool out of respect for Man U but if fergie doesnt respect over teams then there is no reason why Tevez should not be able to join us.
-lfc- - July 3rd, 2009 at 10:34 am
well FERGIE would do anything to get his hands on a liverpool player he is getting are ex’s just shows you he knows iiverpool players are the best
Anonymous - July 3rd, 2009 at 10:55 am
i heard its gonna b a pay as u play deal. tat fucking sly old fox is trying to not only get him for free but for a very low salary as well.
Calvo - July 3rd, 2009 at 11:07 am
While I didn’t see this coming I think its a shrewd move by Fergie.
Drifting away from the nonsense posts for a sec,we are talking abt a player that whatever ppl say is a goalscorer…period!.He is free!!.His wages are gonna be low and at Utd he will thrive on the “big game” mentality.
He can ultimately be a OGS,yes has had his injuries but a free Michael Owen is a decent purchase and should Utd add another striker like Fabiano/Huntelaar/Aguero etc then the depth of the squad is even better than last season!!!
And the fact that at Utd he can be eased in,no’s Rooney’s game and that he will be a team that creates chances…I think that really everyone wins!!!
Next i would like Utd to sign a midfielder with presence whether that be a playmaker from Arteta to Sneijder o holding midfielder from Senna to Yaya.
And add Robben or similar to the left flank.
wots the problem - July 3rd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Owen is a fuckig legend and tbh i love liverpool fc but i love england more and if this move ressurects his career and helps to win us the world cup then thats great, ye its to our rivals but we will still get the double over them and win the league so tbh it dont reli affect us
TF - July 3rd, 2009 at 11:24 am
WTB i agree owen is a legend but a liverpool fc legend and that will be washed away when he signs for utd and as for england winning the world cup more of a chance george best rising from the grave and securing northen irelands place in south africa the problem with england is the plyers are all money hungry and out for themselves they hate each other like liverpool v utd v arsenal(not that they have many english players) v spurs v chelsea they just do not gel the only players how put it in game after game are Gerrard Rooney and walcot these players just want to play football not oil themselves up in majorca

Picture it f you will, a floodlit night at anfield, its 1-1 in the crucial game at Anfield. The game has already been dubbed the game of the season by football pundits.
With ten minutes to go SAF brings Owen on… boooes greet Owen as he makes his wa on to the pitch. Six minutes later and it all United, pressing constantly for the winning goal.
Suddenly out of nowhere rooney steals the ball on the left wing and passes and inch perfect shot to owen. He steadies himself, thinks of Liverpool and how they refused to offer him the contract he deserved and WHACK.
The united crowd errupt with joy…. it’s the winning goal. Owen has won united the game!
