Napoli star Marek Hamsik is in the sights of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

The Times says Hamsik will come into consideration should Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso complete his move to Real Madrid.

Hamsik, a Slovakia playmaker, was top scorer in his first season with Napoli two years ago.

Marek Hamsik is a player who has been in Rafa’s sights for a while and it appears that the ongoing ‘will he/won’t he’ situation with Xabi Alonso may be bringing such a move back on the table. The 21 year old Slovakian attacking midfielder is a player of great potential who has moved on leaps and bounds since moving from Brescia to hugely improved Napoli.

He has good vision and an eye for goal and could be considered as the next Alonso in a couple of years as for now he is not the finished article. Benitez would do well to sign up the international regardless of what happens with Xabi as Marek would be a good player to have in his armoury and wouldn’t cost the earth to sign.
