Redknapp gets ready to seal the England international’s departure.
DARREN BENT has moved a step closer to joining Sunderland by opening talks on a £10million move.
Spurs have finally dropped their player-plus-cash bid for £18m-rated Kenwyne Jones.
And that will allow the Black Cats to seal a club record £45,000-a- week deal for the out-of-favour White Hart Lane ace, 25.
Boss Steve Bruce has yet to splash any of the £40m warchest handed to him by US billionaire owner Ellis Short.

Darren Bent has had a hard time of it at Spurs and would probably welcome a new challenge after two years of trying to prove himself to a succession of bosses. There is no doubt that Martin Jol paid over the odds for the Charlton man and that hung like a noose around the striker’s neck, because even though his goal return in those two years was pretty decent, 25 goals in 43 starts, he seems to be fighting a losing battle to impress the fans and Harry Redknapp.
Whilst he obviously has some short comings his direct style does suit the Premier League and he could well do well at Sunderland if he does indeed complete his much predicted exit from White Hart Lane.
Bent to Sunderland: Will probably happen pretty soon.
