Liverpool Revive £22m Bid for Fantastic Wing Wizard
by Steven Constable on July 5th, 2009 29 commentsBenitez wants to snap up Spanish Star
The Rumour
LIVERPOOL are facing another battle with Real Madrid over long-term target David Silva.
Rafa Benitez is ready to revive a bid for the Valencia star if he is forced to sell Xabi Alonso, 27, to Real for £25million.
But the Kop boss fears England’s new 50 per cent tax law and the poor Euro rate are making it impossible to compete with La Liga sides.
Real are closing in on £20m Silva, which would scupper Benitez’s plans to use funds from Alonso’s sale to recruit the Spaniard.

The Analysis
David Silva has been mentioned in relation to a move to Liverpool more times than most and that speculation was further fueled by Rafa Benitez’s decision to go to Spain to meet with the player last month but any move for the skillful attacker is dependent to a great extent on what Real Madrid do next.
The La Liga giants are also after Silva as well as unsubtly trying to tap up Xabi Alonso and given the wealth at their disposal it could be that money will be the motivating factor that could hold the fate of all parties. Xabi doesn’t strike me as the kind of player who is money mad and he has been pretty straight in terms claiming he is happy to stay at Anfield whilst also being tempted by a move back home so it could come down to whether Rafa allows such a move to take place but only at the right price which would then in turn give him funds to make a big money move for the Valencia man.
It’s all a bit of a rollercoaster right now but my feeling is that these deals will be resolved sooner rather than later as teams will want to have their squads in place before pre-season matches start to appear on the horizon.
The Likelihood
Silva to Liverpool: Dependent on a number of factors, but a definite possibility.

this would be up there with rafa’s top signings behind torres, masch and johnson…still getting that 7mil from the johnson transfer so we wnt be hurting our budget too much

“still getting that 7mil from the johnson transfer so we wnt be hurting our budget too much”……I would agree with you here vince

At the end of the day, it’s all about money. Let’s hope Liverpool can back Rafa up with enough cash to push this deal through.

do us proud rafa. beat real to a signing and dont let xabi go.

Its strange that no one on this site has mentioner the reports that rafa has scared deal away by slapping a €50m price tag on alonso, and that barca say that a def mid is one of their lesser priorities. My money is on both masch and alonso wearing red next season.
Paddy - July 5th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
Well Rafa said he has enough money for 1 more player without selling so i think we will get Silva and it will be a great signing!!!!!!!

iff just 1 of alonso or mash leave liverpool will be fucked. thers no replaceing them 2. they are the best in the world at what they do and i find incredible that alonso is even considering leaving. hes 1 of the loyals with carra and stevie, iff he leaves after are highest points tally in the premier league ever hes a money grabbing twat. also i can understand why mash wants to leave. his wages at liverpool are fucking shitttt. tripple his wages, hes an amazing player.. liverpool cant afford to lose either of them. fuck david silva for that much money what liverpool just dont have atm. buy negredo as backup to torres and leave the squad at that!!!!
red devil forever - July 5th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
as if liverpool can compete with us….
Silva will be in a united shirt alongside torres…
vince - July 5th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
the last comment by liverpool fc 4 life does hav some good points such as maschs wages shuld be definatly increased to round 80,000pounds a week…but i still think that silva wuld b a fantastic signing for a number of reasons, he is versatile and is able to play both sides of midfield and even second striker…and with negredo it is looking more likely that it wnt happen, negredo will only wear the liverpool shirt if we sell alonso and he is in the deal..really i wuld have alonso instead proven performer, experienced, no one can match his passing game in the league and is definatly up there in europe in terms of his passing game…and we do have money 7 mil from the crouch transfer, some money from babels potential transfer, and voronins, degens, dossenas…we do have the money if rafa knows to get it..stil think silva is a damn good option

“red devil forever” mate cant u see that the manchester united castle is falling down…ronaldo and tevez are gone….giggs, scholes, neville, van der sar closing in on retirement…nani, anderson hav been complete flops, you brought valencia which i thought was 17mil wasted, there u had ronaldo who scored 68 goals in two seasons and now u hav someone who is a decent player but cnt score goals at the rate of ronaldo and i think will b out of his depth at united…and to top it all off, ribery and benzema dnt wnt to join ur mob is that saying something? i wuld hav put all of the 80 mil toward ribery..but aguero siging is not looking good either but i must say the owen signing was a smart move by fergie, hats off to him there…but i think the castle is begining to fall
liverpool - July 5th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
hey guys look at Goal.com, looks like alonso and masch deals are off. i knew this would happen, look masch is looking to increase his pay, and alonso justs is a bit pissed from last season with all the stuff with barry… they will both stay, its like the Agger thing we had in Jan everyone was saying he’s going the papers even said he had signed and then he signed a new deal with us…
look we’ll defo win the league next year, i know this may sound a bit crazy but i’ll put my neck on the line here and say that i actually don’t think we need anyone…
YES I THINK WE WILL WIN THE LEAGUE WITH THE TEAM WE HAVE NOW PLUS THE RESERVES COMING UP…
look at our team,
reina, johnson,. skrtel, agger, carra, insua, aurelio, riera, gerrard, torres, alonso, masch, benayoun, plus pacheco, nemeth, darby, spearing
with city buying people, it will take a while for them top all gel, plus arsenal and united i think will be a lot worse, chelsea aren’t really going to do anything….
look everyone always thinks we have to buy buy buy, but look we lost the premiership last season united didn’t play better than us…
liverpool fc 4 life - July 5th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
good point vince negredo probably wont come unless alonso leaves. but we need more of a backup striker than silva. i know silva can play off torres or on the wings but we have enough good wingers and benayoun can be the replacement for gerrard to play off torres. silva would be good but we need more of an out and out striker. and yeah i agree with the alonso thing i put it in the last post, he and mash are the best at what they do. we need to keep them no matter wat.
liverpool fc 4 life - July 5th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
liverpool i have to agree that iff we do keep alonso and masch we will be great nxt season but we still need 1 backup striker and that is fine cos benitez said he has enougn money or 1 more signing.

good afternoon TEDSUZUKI ………… This story has been going around as long as the earth has a round the sun… What i would like to see is Liverpool put in a firm offer for this kid as i am, and i think most people on the site are sick a and tried of Liverpool’s inactivity in the transfer market …… Come on Rafa, put a bid in all ready.
vince – July 5th, 2009 at 4:05 pm ……… I won’t try and add to this as i think you have said it all ………. Well done, Ace post

vince my god can you be that rare thing of a smart liverpool supporter… wow you are a rare breed…
look liverpool are getting better, and finally it is nice to have a bit of competition finally last season, but it wasn’t really ronaldo or tevez that really helped us it was the defence and rooney that really saved this season, plus a couple of goals by marcheda…..
i’m really happy ronaldo’s gone, yes he scored lots of goals but he really annoyed me with all this speculation of him leaving, now valencia is no ronaldo but thats not what we need i do think he’s quality, berba should kick in this season and owen i really feel will score goals…
i’d like another attacking midfielder, but i really think we’ll win the title next season….
understand that i reallly love that liverpool are playing well, it should be that way. i am old skool, it should always be liverpool and united at the top… the great team deserve the respect…..
liverpool - July 5th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
liverpool fc for life, i appreciate what your saying, but i really think that we can do ok.. i really want rafa to put the reserves in.. anyone who has seen them knows that they are quality… especially nemeth, who is something special.
usman - July 5th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
he will add good depth to liverpools squad
rafa should know whats he doing
alonso is defo getting sold so is arbeloa
he shouldnt take negredo in the deal for alonso and wait after to see if u need him for 7 mil , so instead they should take sneijder in the deal if he wants to go for deal alonso for snejider and 7 mil
than to get them more money sell masch for 30-35 no part exchange
and trade dossena for christian poulsen or if 5 mil than liverpool get marek hamsik for 13mil not 9 he can play on the left cm or left back if needed
for the wing they should have money left over and hicks and gillete will give extra 15 mil or 25 than liverpool use it for david silva and abrahim affelay 23 mil and 15 mil striker to be either villa/aguero unlikely if everything gets done also a lb is needed the money should come from other sales as riera kuyt will leave benayoun oh yh mata may come too but than no aguero/villa or expensive striker and negredo will cme

DM - July 5th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
get silva. get henry as backup striker and can play left wing and support torres on the cheap. keep masch and alonso. get richards. sell voronin, degen, itandje, arbeloa, dossena etc.. and get a left back like phillip lahm who could play on the wing if necessary. then we have a versatile, quality squad with quality back up. would win the prem.
GK-reina, cavalieri
RB-johnson, richards
CB-carra, agger, skrtel, richards
LB-aurelio, lahm, insua
DM-masch, alonso, spearing
RM-kuyt, silva (keep or sell benayoun, dont mind)
LM-riera, silva, henry, lahm
AM-gerrard, benayoun, silva
ST-torres, henry, kuyt, silva
DM - July 5th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
i know these probably wont all happen but it could work, not to mention babel, ngog etc..

I still think we should put in a monster offer for van persie. A world class striker to complement torres and gerrard is what we most need and have done for the past few seasons. Van persie is proven in the premiership and can play either as the front man or as a second striker. Also he is still young and will only get better, problem solved. What do you all think.

george best i thik u are disabled. man utd will not sign david silva, he stated he only wants to play in spain or at liverpool cos of all the spanish players and manager. and no1 said david silva was a striker he can still play off torres like gerrard u dumb shit. man i think u have down syndrome. man utd will be shit without ronaldo and tevez they scored too many goals. valencia scored 3 goals and u think uv signed a jewel. think again. he wont live up to expectations and neither will owen. ur shit!!!!!!!!

G’day to you too Donovan Reid. No one really knows if Rafa has put in a bid. Perhaps he did or he is still waiting to see how things are panning out. To be fair to Rafa, I think Silva has been one of his top transfer targets. The issue at the end of the day is really about money. Unfortunately Real Madrid has blown everybody out of the water with what they are prepared to offer for all their transfer targets. Silva being one of them (if the reports are to be believed), then Liverpool would have a tough time trying to match them. So in the light of this, I wouldn’t be too harsh on Rafa especially we just don’t have the kind of budget that Manure, Chelsea, Man City and Real Madrid has. Let’s just hope if there is an auction war, Silva will choose Liverpool.
vince - July 6th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
“red devil forever” i think we may jst hav the edge next season, for a few reasons, we hav by far the best spine in the league…reina, carragher, agger, masch, alonso, gerrard and torres.. our young players hav had a taste of a premier league title race and we hav a good core group of players the best we hav had in a long time…reina, gerrard, torres, carragher, alonso, mascherano, kuyt, agger, sktrel, aurelio and now johnson…we also beat ur mob without gerrard and torres, and those two hardly played together and we were very close to pipping united…rafa needs to add sum depth yes we got johnson, now i think we need to reassure our left midfield keep both riera nd babel….if we buy robben that givs us good depth and quality to our left side

Evening all, I have been looking at more recent post’s but they all seem to be swamped by floor licking juvenile arsebandits posting shit that 12 to 16 year old dumbfuck’s might post.
Anyway, I have been reading the above post’s and I would like to as for yer opinion as to why we drew so many games last season and does any of ye think that maybe when we have Masch and Alonso in the team that we are sometimes too negative. For me selling Mash would not be the end of the world, from my point of view it might actually be a good thing if it means we could land Silva.
On too many occasions I can remember saying too myself, pls take Masch off as he was offering very little against teams happy with getting a draw against us and also Alonso is less effective against these type of teams because his main attribute is spraying balls around the pitch which is hard to do against these type of teams, the West Brom’s, West Ham,s etc, etc.
Also I would love to see Lucas sold and not even mainly to raise cash but from the point of view that I will then never see him again wearing the red of LFC as this guy turn’s my stomach.
So can some of ye explain why we drew so many games last season as personally I put it mainly to Rafa’s tactics.
