Very Good News for Rafa!
STEVEN GERRARD put a smile on Rafa Benitez’s face last night by signing his contract extension.
The Liverpool skipper agreed two years on top of his current deal – which ran for another two seasons – back in April.
Now he has finally made it official by inking a contract until 2013, worth around £26million in total.
Gerrard has insisted this will likely be his last deal and is seriously considering quitting after it ends when he will be 33. (The Sun)
This is indeed good news for Anfield fans, especially when you consider the uncertainty facing other top flight clubs and their top players. Arsenal have a daily battle against a Barcelona smash and grab Cesc Fabregas raid, Chelsea‘s John Terry is reportedly not happy about being left in the dark about Man City‘s interest in him and Man United just lost Cristiano Ronaldo. This must be the calmest summer of Stevie G’s Liverpool career with absolutely no talk of any potential interest brewing.
Obviously Rafa has some concerns about Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano but at least he now has his captain signed up for life.
