It will cost big bucks to lure the Spaniard to La Liga!
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez refuses to budge over his valuation of Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso.
While Real GM Jorge Valdano last night claimed that a deal for Xabi could still be salvaged, Marca says Benitez refuses to budge over his £40 million asking price for the midfielder.

In today’s crazy transfer market I think that £40m for Xabi Alonso is about right but Real Madrid are clearly trying to unsettle the Liverpool man so that Rafa is forced to take a smaller offer for a player who’s head may be turned, it’s a standard trick by the La Liga giants who are about to announce the signing of Karim Benzema today.
I am pretty sure that pretty much everybody who does not support the Bernabeu side will be wishing for them to fail big time after essentially attempting to bankroll their way to success, which I guess is their prerogative but it’s going to be an expensive time for the club and all those egos are going to find it hard to live together in the pressure cooker atmosphere that will no doubt generate at the club.
Alonso is a player Benitez will not want to lose but there may come a point where the club decides to take the money and run.
