Rafa hasn’t given up on this long term target
Benitez wants Valencia winger David Silva to bolster his squad, but only if he can snatch the Spanish winger for around £15m.
But the manager’s main ambition is to keep his midfield together and has spent most of the summer fending off Real Madrid and Barcelona’s attempts to snatch Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.

Things seem to moving very slowly in terms of the future of Valencia winger David Silva. The Spanish international has met Rafa Benitez to discuss a potential move and whilst David Villa seems to invariably be close to a move from the Mestalla his teammate doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of attention in the press of late but this latest report suggests that the Liverpool boss hasn’t given up hope on snapping up the impressive attacker.
23 year old Silva has been at the La Liga side for seven years and has of course already played under the Anfield boss and could well be interested in joining Rafa and the other Spaniards at the Merseyside club but it could all boil down to money.
This source suggests that the club hopes to persuade Valencia to sell for a fee as little as £15m but I would say that is very wishful thinking and it could take a fee nearer double that to actually land the adaptable talent.
Silva to Liverpool: Still a potential signing but could depend on whether David Villa leaves the club and therefore makes it less necessary to recoup more money.
