Could this man be about to replace the Blues captain?
The Rumour
CHELSEA are ready to move in for Newcastle United’s England Under-21 defender Steven Taylor as they prepare to sell skipper John Terry to Manchester City.
Taylor – like Terry, a no-nonsense defender – was devastated by Newcastle’s relegation.
Spurs also want 23-year-old Taylor, who although born in London rose through the Toon youth ranks to become an adopted Geordie.
But it’s Chelsea who are poised with a £10million bid as they anticipate an increased £35m City offer for Terry – one they will find hard to turn down.

The Analysis
Steven Taylor is a good centre back, an uncompromising kick it into the stands with no fuss type of defender, but he’s no John Terry and many Chelsea fans will not be to keen on the Newcastle United man being seen as a potential replacement if their captain does indeed leave the club.
The London born defender has been given committed displays at St James’ Park for a few years now but is still only 23 and has a bright future and one would imagine that he is the type of character that would love to stay at the club and help them back into the top flight and he is indeed just the type of battler the club needs right now.
Carlo Ancelotti has had a busy start to his Stamford Bridge career, spending lots of time trying to appease some of the players at the club considering their futures whilst also trying hard to bring in some big names. I think it’s about 50/50 at the moment as to whether Terry stays at the club so I am not surprised that the club is keeping their options open.
The Likelihood
Taylor to Chelsea: I think he will stick it out with the Toon Army
