Is time running out on this Midfielder’s Anfield career?
XABI ALONSO has told Rafa Benitez he wants to quit Anfield and sign for Real Madrid – but Liverpool will not grant his wish unless the Spanish giants come up with a fee in the region of £35m.
Alonso has stopped short of putting in an official written transfer request but he has made it clear to Benitez that his future lies in La Liga rather than the Premier League.
The 27-year-old is due to join up with his Liverpool team mates on Sunday after being given extended leave following his involvement in the Confederations Cup in South Africa but Alonso and his agent Inaki Ibanez are hopeful that a deal can be thrashed out with Real before then. (Liverpool Echo)
Xabi Alonso seems to have his heart set on a move now and in many ways Rafa would be better to cash in on the Midfield Maestro rather than holding onto an unhappy midfielder. Problem is, Real Madrid are being sly with their valuation of the Spanish international, regardless of the fact they have spent a kings ransom on Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul Albiol and Karim Benzema!
It’s surely only a matter of time before this deal is haggled to satisfaction then Benitez will have to turn his attentions to Javier Mascherano. It hasn’t been the summer transfer window the fans had been hoping for thus far but they do have a good right back in Glen Johnson signed up and perhaps more additions will be forthcoming once the club gets a good price for Alonso?
