Fergie set to bring in another Brazilian with bags of potential
Manchester United are moving closer to signing Douglas Costa, the highly rated Brazil Under-20 midfield player, from Grêmio.
The Brazilian club are holding out for about £20 million — close to the release clause stated in the player’s contract — but United are reluctant to pay that much and hope that a compromise can be reached shortly.
United initially wanted to take Douglas, 18, on a three-week trial, but while that request was rejected by Grêmio, negotiations over a permanent deal are continuing.
Douglas would be United’s fourth signing of the summer after Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Gabriel Obertan, with senior sources at the club insisting that they have no interest in buying Samuel Eto’o, the Barcelona striker.

Teenager Douglas Costa has come in for a great deal of media exposure in recent weeks and Sir Alex has been pretty clear in his attempts to snap up yet another Brazilian to add to his rapidly growing bunch and now it appears that the Gremio man is getting nearer to completing his Old Trafford move.
The attacking midfielder is seen as a star for the future who is already impressing in the here and now but anyone looking for comparisons with recently departed Cristiano Ronaldo would be barking up the wrong tree, whilst Costa is a bit of a set piece specialist, he is more of a David Beckham style crosser of the ball than a shoot every chance you get type of player.
Obviously there is always an associated risk with spending such large sums of money on such a young talent but clearly the Man United scouting systems is one of the best around and I don’t think you can argue that fellow countrymen Anderson and Rafael have shown what they are capable of already and they are also both youngsters who made similar journeys to the one that Douglas looks set to make.
Douglas Costa to Man United: Very likely indeed!
