Sir Alex set to spend big?
ASHLEY Young has emerged as Manchester United’s top transfer target with Sir Alex Ferguson poised to offer £25million for the England winger.
The United boss has identified the Aston Villa player as the man to fill his problem spot on the left.
But United face competition from Barcelona, who beat them in last season’s Champions League final.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill is mortified at the prospect of losing Young, 24, a £9.65m buy from Watford in 2007, who signed a new four-year contract only eight months ago.

Having already purchased one winger in the form of Luis Antonio Valencia, it appears that Sir Alex is keen to get a left side flanker as well, which somewhat goes against recent reports suggesting that he was done spending this summer.
Ashley Young is a top notch wide-man, very exciting, very direct and very exciting to watch. There is no doubt that if he were plying his trade at a club in the top four then he would be a far bigger name than he currently is, and would have far more chance of a good run in the national set up and adding to his five caps.
The 24 was considered an expensive risk when Martin O’Neill spent nearly £10m for the Watford man but now it looks very much like money well spent and the Aston Villa boss will be gutted if he loses such a talented player but will find it hard to stand in the way of such a high profile move.
Ashley Young to Man United: I think Sir Alex has indeed stopped spending for the time being.
