Spending to continue at Old Trafford after all?
The London Evening Standard says Chelsea are set to step up their efforts to sign Ashley Young but will have to bid £25million to prise the winger from Aston Villa.
The Blues have been monitoring Young for some time and are now prepared to make a move as Villa are on the verge of completing a £12m deal for Middlesbrough’s Stewart Downing.
Manchester United are also keen.

Sir Alex Ferguson had spoken about his intention to not continuing to purchase new players this summer but then Chief Executive David Gill said the opposite so who knows what’s going on, maybe the Man United boss was playing one of his patented mind games?
Anyway back to Ashley Young. Apparently Aston Villa are closing in on Boro man Stewart Downing and given that he plays in the same position as Young you can understand why speculation about his future at Villa Park and it seems that Martin O’Neill has put a price on the 24 year old’s head which would indicate that they are willing to sell.
United face stiff competition for his signature with Chelsea and Tottenham also interested but the former Watford man will surely be tempted to join the reigning Premier League champions?
