Mark Hughes looks to continue spending spree
The Rumour
Manchester City have made a surprise move for Tottenham‘s David Bentley.
Eastlands boss Mark Hughes, who managed Bentley at Blackburn, is keen to add the former England midfielder to his squad. Bentley joined Spurs for £16million a year ago.
The 24-year-old has also attracted interest from Aston Villa, Everton and Atletico Madrid but none of them have the financial clout of City when it comes to meeting Tottenham’s £12m asking price.

The Analysis
That’s right, Man City are after a player who is not a striker, strange! David Bentley is a good player but not a great one and he had a distinctly average season at White Hart Lane last term and Harry Redknapp doesn’t appear to have much faith in the former Arsenal man is willing to sell him in order to garner funds for incoming transfers.
Mark Hughes has a wealth of front men and probably feels he needs creativity in his midfield to help feed his strike force. He already has the likes of Stephen Ireland, Shaun Wright Philips and Elano to call upon but perhaps he is looking to construct a squad which has two internationals for every position.
However the Eastlands side really needs to start thinking about strengthening their defence before the transfer window slams shut!
The Likelihood
Bentley to Man City: It’s a move that may reignite the England man’s stuttering career.
