Liverpool Midfield Maestro Is £35m Chelsea and Man City Target: Keep Dreaming!

Chelsea and Manchester City are in the hunt again for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, whose proposed move to Real Madrid has stalled.
The Spanish giants are ready to re-sign former midfielder Esteban Granero for a 10th of Alonso’s £35million asking price.
Granero was sold to Getafe last summer with a buy-back option that expires on July 30.
The 22-year-old’s agent Teo Lazaro was at the Bernabeu on Tuesday to discuss his return with a deal expected to be concluded early next week.
Chelsea and City have been back in touch with Alonso’s agent, having first made contact with him a month ago.
Alonso spoke of his wish to move to the Bernabeu before joining up with the Liverpool squad in Austria on Sunday.
The Spain midfielder watched his club’s defeat by Rapid Vienna before flying to the Far East for the games against Thailand on Wednesday and Singapore on Sunday.
Granero’s signing would not necesarily spell the end of Madrid’s pursuit of Alonso, but it is clear they are looking at other options after failing to drive down Liverpool’s asking price. (Daily Mail)
There really is no point in any English team trying to make the most out of a very unstable situation. There is no denying that Xabi Alonso and Liverpool as a couple are on shaky ground but by no means heading for the divorce courts.
Real Madrid want the midfielder, badly, although not badly enough to stump up anything like the amounts they forked out for Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema and the Spanish international would do well to note that fact as clearly if they really wanted him desperately enough then they would stop beating around the bush and meet the valuation placed squarely on Xabi’s shoulders.
The point being that the La Liga giants are trying to play the Merseyside club for fools, stating they do not have cash to burn, whilst simultaneously burning cash in plain view! If I were Benitez and really felt there was no way to proceed without selling Alonso then I would sell him to any other team outside of the Premier League other than the Bernabeu outfit just to teach them a lesson!

what was the point of this article? the headline is the most biased i’ve ever seen on here….dont wet yourself mate, chelsea dont need alonso…he is a great player but surplus to requirements at stamford bridge…i read somewhere that chelsea may offload mikel to buy alonso….will never happen….mikel is developing into his role nicely and is in contract negotiations…and why would chelsea need another midfielder, especially one that is 29……no alonso, no pirlo, no gattuso for cheslo

hahahaha!
alonso wants a move to SPAIN! not to another club that can offer him nothing more than liverpool can. I HATE MAN CITY – THEY ARE RUINING FOOTBALL FOR EVERYONE! – THEY SIGN ADEBAYOR, BARRY, SANTA CRUZ, TEVEZ, NOW THEY WANT TERRY!
WITHOUT MAN CITY THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED…
Robinho – Chelsea
Santa Cruz – LFC
Adebayor – Stay or go to AC Milan
Barry – LFC
Tevez – LFC, Chelsea, Real Madrid
Terry – Goes nowhere
Sorry, i went off on one about Man City :p

alonso will go this summor or next summer but if he does go he will wearing the white of mardrid
then aquilani should be his replacment hes a deep lying playmaker just like alonso
then we should buy richards for rb/cb cover as arbeloa looks to be going and skrtel as been injured
get an attacking left mid robben/robinho/silva/young
and for attacking cover i think we should get mbokani from standard liege
he was a trouble for the liverpool defence when we played them and i think he would be good cover for torres
then sell dossena
and buy warnock or konchesky
both good english left backs

Jed, Alonso is 27 not 29! And secondly Mikel is not in Alonso’s class. Mikel is a good player, but doesn’t spread the ball like Alonso, Mikel is more like Mascherano.
