Arsenal & Tottenham Close In On £21m Huntelaar after Dutchman Turns Down Stuttgart
by Steven Constable on July 23rd, 2009 18 commentsReal Madrid ace looks for somewhere to call home!
The Rumour
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s move to Stuttgart has collapsed – and Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp admits he wants to sign the Real Madrid striker.
The German side were sure they had got their man on Tuesday but Sportsmail later reported that the Holland striker was stalling to see if Arsenal and Spurs would follow up interest with attractive offers.
The 25-year-old is understood to have walked away from talks with Stuttgart, who are looking at CSKA Moscow striker Vagner Love and Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko as alternatives, despite hoping that they can revive a deal with Huntelaar.
The former Ajax striker, who only joined Madrid in January, could not agree terms on a move to Germany.
He wants suitors to match his current £60,000 a week five-year deal and reports in Spain say he was also seeking a severance package.
Madrid were understandably reluctant as they were already tied to handing over £6m to Ajax from the initial £15.6m fee they had agreed with Stuttgart.
Tottenham have spent weeks in talks with Madrid about the striker and Redknapp said: ‘The lad is a very good goalscorer and I’m still interested in him.

The Analysis
Now that Klaas has seemingly turned down a move to the Bundesliga expect a few Premier League outfits to make a sustained effort to land the Dutchman with Spurs and Arsenal appearing to be the most likely to make a big push for the Real Madrid man.
Having scored goals for fun in the relatively average Eredivisie, 144 goals in six seasons, Huntelaar finally made the big step up to La Liga but then a succession of managerial and presidential changes have left him very much surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and he will be keen to avoid sitting on the bench as he seeks to cement his place in the Dutch line-up with a World Cup looming.
Huntelaar may prefer to team up with his international strike partner Robin Van Persie at the Emirates but could also be keen on a move to their fierce rivals from White Hart Lane as Harry Redknapp makes plans to continue the club’s resurgence.
The Likelihood
Huntelaar to Spurs/Arsenal: I can see the 25 moving to the Premier League but it’s anyone’s guess who he will join, even Chelsea have expressed a desire to sign the goal machine!

pappa smurf - July 23rd, 2009 at 3:12 pm
will be interesting to see who offers him the most money. you cannot be sure on strikers who have scored bagfulls in the dutch league (alves, kuyt, samaras) but i think he has wat it takes to play in the premiership.

To Dom,
To be fair Arsenal are named in the first paragraph by the Daily Mail and are known to be interested. I actually think he may join the Gunners as well. They have money to buy him now that they have got rid of Adebayor
Dom - July 23rd, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I do see him as more of an arsenal player!
wllmhll - July 23rd, 2009 at 3:50 pm
yep, arsenal is one of the clubs looking into huntelaar. van persie and him would be madness, i reckon.
GOONER 1 - July 23rd, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Fingers crossed Arsenal will get him. Him an RVP upfront will be one of if not The Best Pairing up front in ther league.
redryan - July 23rd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
After Torres and Gerrard that is obviously Gooner.
Surely the best partnership out there right now other than the trio at barca.

football is a team game. Therefore it makes sense to have 2 players who player for their country playing for Arsenal alongside eah other
This will work. Sadly Wenger knows nothing about teamwork, just individuals, and I suspect he will not take this chance
RVP & this bloke together. Imagine the understanding of each other they’d have

good point bstard
Poor Spuds - July 23rd, 2009 at 5:53 pm
dunno… if arsenal will sign him… Both rvp n huntelaar r competing to get a chance to start for the dutch team…. there wont be any love lost between the 2 of them…(a team which has been blessed with such a strike force tat they cud do a man city n play 9 strikers
)
still i would love to see him @ arsenal… he’s more of the poacher kinda striker… n he definitely fits the bill as a nice change in formation for arsenal… imagine the 3 pronged attack of RVP, Huntelaar n arshavin…. now that would be irresistable to watch…
but money is the biggest factor in this transfer… arsenal wont let go off the money easily which gives harry the advantage… though i would say it would be a step backwards in his career if he joins the spuds…
so lets wait n watch how the cookie crumbles…

Wenger will not fork out more than £15m for KJH & Madrid will accept no less than £18m, so there is the biggest problem with trying to sign him.

thfc 2 bet huntelaar scum 2 get crouch
GOONER 1 - July 24th, 2009 at 11:41 am
I heard tottenham dont want to pay his 60k a week wages. We usto pay Ade-Scumbag 80k so i cant see a problem with agreeing personal terms.
Just need to agree a fee with madrid and he’s be on his way to north london (The Red Side)
rip van winker - July 24th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
would love to see huntelaar at arsenal next season, playing a 433 formation with van persie and arshavin upfront with him.
all we would need after is a top draw dm and a tall cb, and the league is ours
gooner4life - July 25th, 2009 at 10:46 am
almunia
sagna toure gallas/vermaelen clicy
nasri fabregas rosisky/walcott
arshavin huntelaar v.persie
