Man United to Launch Ambitious £23m La Liga Star Bid
by Christian Bailey on July 27th, 2009 291 words | 24 commentsSpanish sources suggest that Sir Alex is planning another big name signing!
Reports in Spain suggest that Manchester United are set to make a concerted new effort to sign Valencia winger David Silva next week.
The player is due to report back to training with Los Che after an extended break following his participation in the Confederations Cup.
And Marca claim that United are going to be leading the chase to sign him, as they still have money available to spend from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.
United have already brought in Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia this summer, along with French youngster Gabriel Obertan and Senegalese striker Mame Biram Diouf. (4thegame.com)
I have no doubt that Sir Alex is considering bringing in new faces to the club, regardless of what he has said to the contrary, after all just a day after stating he wouldn’t be signing any more players, he went ahead and did just that by bringing in Mame Biram Diouf.
In many ways David Silva would be an ideal signing for the Old Trafford side and the Spanish international would go some way to providing the firepower that will be missed following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Luis Antonio Valencia is a top notch player but Man United could well do with another wide man and that is where the Valencia man could step in.
Nani has been pretty impressive in pre-season action but I still doubt he has what it takes to successfully step out of Cristiano’s shadow and impress on a regular basis. In many ways the Portuguese international has the tricks that Ronaldo’s has but without the end product, and that is where Silva comes in.

He always f_ckin does this. Always goes after Liverpool targets.
Ronaldo is the best example. He must have thought: “ohh Liverpool want him, he must be good. Lets offer higher than they can”
LFC - July 27th, 2009 at 10:18 am
what a twat u aint going 2 get him or villa cuz they both wont to go to liverpool
JK - July 27th, 2009 at 10:42 am
DOM, LIVERPOOL WERE NOT AFTER RONALDO, IT WAS ARSENAL, WENGER EVEN GOT HIM THE ARSENAL SHIRT, ARSENAL ALMOST GOT HIM FOR 4 MILL AND UNITED JUMPED IN WITH A 12MILL BID.

Ronaldo was going to go to liverpool but Parry would not sanction it. Anyways the only club Silva would play for in England is Liverpool IMO so let Fergie do what he wants. He’s a muppet…

This constant Liverpool fan drivel is making CO a joke. It’s like being back at school

LOL, whats up my scouse chums, looks like you’re all panicking and been put on edge a bit here. LMFAO at comments re: Ronaldo was a Liverpool target. What about Torres how many years did United chase him till Liverpool thought ay up. Listen Fergie sets standards, you lot are wishing somethingb happens this summer and its eating you up inside. There is a big possibilty you’ll end up out of the top four again. Depleated team with players who dont want to play for you, yet you try to keep them and then you have Steven the Criminal Gerrard who is protected like the swan, players like hiom end up in the bin like Gazza.

Chelsea, Scum U, and arsenal where all keeping tabs on torres, however, they didnt think he would be able to cope with the EPL pace. So nobody actually put in a bid.
Thats just bad judgement
muttsnutts - July 27th, 2009 at 11:28 am
fergie sets standards ? most off his signings are flops he relies on the same players year in year out the only decent signings he has ever made are proven players already.

If Liverpool actively compete moneywise for silva, without a doubt he’d choose them. He’d be playing with Alonso, Reina and Torres who he knows very well. Along with a Spanish Manager, head coach etc. Any player in the world would wanna play with Gerard. I live in Spain and know fact that the spanish love watching Pool. They also know that that there are no fans in England like Liverpool fans. The only reason he would go for Man Utd is if they outbid us and Valencia give him no choice.
According to all the papers over here he’s going knowhere and Chelsea are getting Villa but who knows.

-lfc- - July 27th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
ebjoying?? says the supporter off a team who needs an ex liverpool player to get them goals we buy the talent you just get them when there past it and lost there touch

muttsnutts: So its a bad thing to rely on the same players year in, year out?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ji-Sung Park, Ronaldo, Evra, Vidic – these are some of the latest players that Sir Alex signed, and they werent proven players already.

I think there will be alot more answers once they have come back from their pre-season.
And then perhaps there will be 1 more signing.
Altho i think they missed a trick not signing Etoó.
As for the comment -lfc- …what are you talking about…Fabio,Raphael,Macheda,Vidic,Ronaldo, etc.
And you say that you but players?
So where´s the youth??
-lfc- - July 28th, 2009 at 11:40 am

lmao united fans are fukin daft!!!! like -lfc- said use think you invented football ! ! might i add united might av won the league wen it should av bin us . . . but last season we lost only 2 games and united lost 4 and we scored more goals than any other team so it puts us in a strong possition knowing we havnt lost any players yet that are important
and like i said so far we havnt lost any first team players and rafa’s not gona let any important ones go ither, alonso might go but we can easily sign a better replacment . . . . but United lost the best winger in the world, Ronaldo and replaced him with an average winger in Valencia. LMAO!!!!!!!! thats hilarious! and use lost a world class forward to man-shitty and replaced him with a free-bee has been whose best days were at liverpool. Its not even a bargin its a shit signing, Owen was FREE for a reason . . . hes shit !!! hes a complete has been!!!
youre squads taken about 4 steps backwards and the fact is were already a few steps ahead for next seasons title race . . . its not like any in denial united fans will admit it tho!

If Liverpool actually bid for him then he will go there. It looks like that is not going to be the case now as they are going for Aquilani. Man Utd have spare cash available still and if the player is happy to go there and Valencia are happy with the amount then he will move there. I’m sorry but this guy isnt 5 years old and doesnt have to be at a club with all his friends. I’m sure he will want to be successfull and stands a very good chance at getting that if he went to united. Just have a feeling that Liverpool will miss out of him and the same with David Villa. Regarding the Ronaldo arguements. Ronaldo was known by most of the top clubs in Europe. Man Utd were always front of the queue due to the arrangement they have with Sporting Lisbon. Basically accepted bids for players, man utd have a chance to equal it or outbid and get the player. This is what happened with Arsenal bidding for him, then united come in and outbid. Liverpool did never bid for him, it was always Wenger and Arsenal.
One thing I have noticed thought is the amount of rubbish being spouted on here by both sets of fans. Im a united fan and its pretty pathetic. Grow up the lot of you! Learn to spell to and cut out all the swearing. You all sound like 12 year old chavs.

redryan – Its a forum! get used to it. Anybody who gets annoyed and then decides to lash out with words like you deserves to be censored.

ok so let me put this straight for ALL the manc fans. u won the title last year by 4 points and a handful of richer referees. this summer u have sold ur BEST 2 PLAYERS and replaces them with A WIGAN HOPELESS CUNT AND A NEWCASTLE AND ENGLAND REJECT. liverpool have bought ENGLANDS NO.1 RIGHT BACK and sold NO-ONE WORTH BOTHERING ABOUT. so, them 4 points will be wiped away next year and your owners will have no trophy winnings to go into there back pockets, therefore you will get increasingly MORE DEBTS and will GO DOWN THE PAN, SIMILAR TO LEEDS, remember them? now, DAVID SILVA has said plenty of times that THE ONLY CLUB AWAY FROM SPAIN HE WOULD JOIN IS LIVERPOOL, same with DAVID VILLA, as SPANISH PEOPLE ONLY EVER WATCH AND LIKE LIVERPOOL FROM THE UK, so to summarise….
UNITED WILL NOT GET DAVID SILVA OR DAVID VILLA AND THEY WILL NOT WIN THE EPL THIS YEAR, im worried more about CHELSEA AND ARSENAL AND MAN CITY

at the end of the day the duo will go were the talent is and were the silver is and of course the money so i dont think liverpool is even on their radar lol they are only after first class they dont wont 2nd best and thats a fact
