Manchester United are expected to step up their pursuit of Valencia winger David Silva this week.

Marca says with Silva back from his summer break, transfer talks will resume with Valencia over a move to England.

Whilst Sir Alex has thus far done very well to spend wisely this summer I think the addition of David Silva would be the icing on the Ronaldo/Tevez-less cake. Luis Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen.have impressed me in pre-season but the club could well do with just a little more firepower and creativity.

As we draw nearer to the closing of the transfer window Valencia will become more and more likely to take a deal lower than their crazy valuations and Ferguson is just the kind of shrewd operator who will take advantage of the cash strapped club.

Unlike David Villa, Silva has made it abundantly clear that he would be very much interested in a move away from his native Spain and at the moment the only real contenders for the 22 year old’s signature are Liverpool who are busy trying to fill other holes in their squad.
