Sir Alex set sights on biggest of prizes!
MANCHESTER UNITED are set to launch a £35million bid for Franck Ribery.
But the Premier League champions will wait two weeks before weighing in so that a clause in Ribery’s Bayern Munich contract is active.
The French winger is due a loyalty bonus on August 14, after which he is expected to request a transfer.
Bayern have fended off interest from Real Madrid whose arrogance and lack of respect infuriated the German giants.
But Ribery has indicated he would be willing to move to Old Trafford and wants to quit Germany.
United believe Ribery, 26, is prepared to force the issue but would not do so until any financial issues have been sorted.
Bayern are understood to be more willing to negotiate with United but are likely to demand nearer £50m.

Given that Bayern Munich chiefs have demanded £80m for the French playmaker it does seem that the German club will more than likely not accept Sir Alex’s bid but I guess it’s a move well worth making in any case as the request for that kind of cash was a tad unrealistic.
That is not to say that I don’t rate Ribery, I do, but to ask for the same crazy money as Real paid for Cristiano Ronaldo is probably either a clever bit of mind warfare from the Bundesliga side or simply a way of starting the bidding process.
I think the club could do with one more attacking capture but whether that has to be a big money signing is another matter, that is not to say I wouldn’t welcome the former Marseille man with open arms!
