Ferguson gets his chequebook at the ready!
MANCHESTER UNITED will tell Valencia to name their price for David Silva this week.
Although boss Sir Alex Ferguson claims United are not in the market for further signings, they are prepared to deal at the right price.
United will meet Valencia officials before Wednesday’s prestige friendly at Old Trafford, but will have to pay £25million to land the Spain midfielder. (News of the World)
David Silva is a top notch player who has been the target of much speculation for the best part of two years and it’s amazing that he is still at The Mestalla given the club’s fall from grace and financial meltdown, I do not expect the young Spaniard to be at the club for much longer.
This source suggests that Man United will ask Valencia to name their price for the 23 year old but Sir Alex is a lot wiser than that and will already have a figure in mind and he is unlikely to budge from it either. That fee is reported to be around the £22m mark and whether the La Liga side cave in to this offer is hard to say.
Ferguson has wisely stayed out of the spotlight these last few weeks and he will know that the clock is ticking and with only a few weeks until the transfer window slams shut the Spanish side may have to accept whatever they can get.
He could be a great signing and is effective on both wings and in that way can easily form a wide partnership with Valencia operating on the other flank, unless the boss thinks that Nani is ready for a long run in the starting eleven which would be well earned after some impressive pre-season showings.
