Man United to Make £35m La Liga Striker Bid: I Think Not!

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero as the man to provide the missing Old goals.
Argentinian Aguero, 21, is seen as the ideal replacement for Carlos Tevez, having formed a potent partnership with ex-United striker Diego Forlan in La Liga. Ferguson, despite bringing in hitman Michael Owen on a free transfer from Newcastle United, sill privately feels that there are missing cogs in the Old Trafford goal machine after the summer departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Tevez.
The son-in-law of Argentina manager Diego Maradona, Aguero has admirers throughout Europe and so far Atletico Madrid have been beating off all enquiries by quoting an asking price of £50million.
But United, together with other interested clubs like AC Milan and Barcelona, believe that is too high and Ferguson is weighing up an offer of around £35m. (Sunday Express)
OK so now this is officially silly! Sir Alex say’s he doesn’t envisage signing anyone, either as a ploy to take some heat out of the issue or because be genuinely meant it, and now the red tops are making stories up left right and centre.
The David Silva story does appear to have a modicum of reality behind it but this rumour seems to have been plucked from thin air. Sergio Aguero is a good prospect and already a big success in La Liga, but he is not worth £50m and he is not even worth the £35m we are reportedly set to offer.
I know it’s every big sides dream to have four good strikers to call upon to cover what is more than likely to be a 50-60 game season but since when did that fourth striker end up costing the earth? The Argentine international has a good touch and is an instinctive finisher but at 21 it’s hard to know just how far he can go and it seems to me that if Fergie is going to bring in another big name it will be to help provide the ammunition for the strikers rather than to bring in a goalscorer who would surely just cause either Wayne Rooney or Dimitar Berbatov to miss games and therefore potentially breed unrest.

Liverpool can barely play without Torres and Gerrard, Arsenal keep losing to the big 4 teams and Chelsea are just another club who can’t make that final step to win anything (It is 2010 now, not 2005 or so btw.) Man United have a history which can only be rivalled by Real Madrid. Every player in the world knows United and would jump to the united ship if it sailed past and offered them them to get on.
