Am I the Only One Annoyed By Liverpool’s Transfer Policy?
by Lee McAndrews on August 4th, 2009 640 words | 14 commentsCome on Rafa!
David Silva has been linked with us longer than Bill Shankly it feels, but can anyone really see him coming to Anfield? surely by the time we sign him he will be past his prime, Aquilani I personally find a strange fit, I admit that I haven’t seen that much of him and when I have seen him he seems ok rather than outstanding, his fitness record isn’t great plus the success of the Italians in the EPL isn’t fantastic. Martinez looks like a very good young player and for the prices quoted surely he should be the first in, £10m for a player of his calibre at present never mind the future is brilliant! Look at Delph Villa to shell out £8m -£9m on him and he has never been out of League 1, surely any half decent youngster would look good in the that league?
Compared to the days when we just used to buy players for the sake of it and end up with a few gems otherwise lost in a bottomless pit complete failures, players like Collymore, Berger, Murphy, Babel (Marcus), Hyppia all class players coming into the club at a time when players I can’t believe we were actually paying with real money the likes of Dundee, Vignal and Diao to name a few.
I can’t get my head round the current transfer policy yes we are supposed to be buying young players with great potential but that isn’t going to win the title straight away, he has bought players of real class like Skrtel, Agger, Insua, Alonso and Mascherano so he can obviously spot talent, but he has also bought in Nunez (Figo understudy) who was meant to be better than Garcia! (whom in my opinion was a great little player, yes frustrating at times but other times complete genius) everyone wants to see great players arriving at the club players like Aguero, Villa and Silva but it’s not going to happen surely not with the current owners? but why aren’t we going for the players that are up for grabs who would improve the squad and the starting 11? like the unwanted Dutch at Madrid any of them would improve us even Drenthe and VDV who won’t get a look in would be class signings.
We have some players like Babel who I think had he gone anywhere else would be a world class player by now, the same situation as if Kewell had gone to United you know he would have been a success, we can get good players in but not make them great, Lucas has had chance after chance to impress and to be fair does ok when he gets a run but he isn’t Alonso class and possible never will be in the EPL, Cattermole another player supposedly linked looks like a good battler but is he going to win games with a single pass or shot? Maybe he will? he has never been in a big team with world class around him so maybe that will develop his potential but don’t we have in my opinion a better all round player in Spearing?
We need to give youth a chance Christ Ngog has had his so why Nemeth, Spearing, Pacheco and Darby can’t be given theirs? Answer because he can’t afford to let them settle he needs instant results and that is what will harm the development of all the youth that is currently being bought into the club, I hope I am wrong and to be honest that happens a lot! I hope I see them in the 1st team squad throughout the season, surely if anyone deserves the chance it’s the youngsters and not Vorinin!

So far this year transfers have been good. Glen Johnson is a class player in a position that was badly lacking. Liverpool are holding out for what they want for a player that isn’t for sale so that is also good in my opinion. Everything else is just speculation. Does anybody really know that rafa hasn’t spoken to Silva, Villa, Aguero and that any of them has said that they would love to join Liverpool. I would guess not. Also none of the above mentioned players have signed for anyone else either so they are still affectively still up for grabs as it were.

Didn’t we only get Nunez as a makeweight in one of our early transfers? I may well be wrong but didn’t real madrid throw him at us as part of the owen deal? I thought we only took him as we were gonna get no more cash and thats all we could get.
I disagree with the point that babel would be world class at other clubs. He may well look a lot better than he does for us but quite simply he doesn’t have the footballing brain required to be truly world class(yet?), thats why he constantly gets the ball, fucks off down the line, fails with a step over and then loses the ball. As for giving the youngsters a chance well yeah we should be doing, but in matches we’ve got in the bag, or in league cup games. All our players have acknowledged that to win the epl ya gotta be perfect, the Manc scum are level with us, we need to win. Not an ideal time to start playing inexperienced youngsters in my opinion.

Am sorry to not have the same views as some of you but Spearing is not good enough to play for Liverpool, I think that he might make it at someone like Wigan but not us am affraid. I hope I am proven wrong but I don’t think he’s good enough !!!!
Days Of Dalglish Are Nearly Back - August 5th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Fact is right. Rafa has easily been the best manager we’ve had since Dalglish and has taken us to the next level where we are serious contenders for the league and a threat in Europe. The thing that everyone is pissed off about is the amount of rumours and speculation. But these aren’t coming from Anfield, it’s pure media speculation. Show me one article with a quote from a Liverpool source on any of the players we’ve been linked with. End of the day the only people who really know what’s going on are Rafa and those working at Liverpool. Journalists and supporters can say whatever they like, we’re interested in signing this player, that player, but it’s all pointless really.
End of the day Man U have had a terrible transfer window so far, Arsenal pretty bad, Chelsea and Liverpool haven’t done much (yet) and Man City have bought anyone they can get with little thought on formation and system by the looks of it. Even by doing nothing I think our chances of wining the league have improved! So I’m not all too worried. Yes the Alonso saga dragged on but that was Real’s fault for not stumping up the cash. Around £30mil is about right in the current market and we obviously had to wait until that was agreed before knowing how much we have to spend. No doubt Rafa and his team have his feelers out on all the players we’re interested in and I will be expecting two or three players in come the end of the season and hopefully they are of the required quality to take us forward.

Dom – August 4th, 2009 at 4:07 pm …….”I dont believe Rafa should have been given full control of the transfers” …..you have said this before and i still agree with you Dom
Fact – August 4th, 2009 at 5:17 pm ….. “So far rafa benitez has been the best thing to happen to liverpool since dalglish was in charge”…….. Gérard Houllier was more sucessful than Rafa and with less money than Rafa had to spend and over the same period of time, yes we are inthe champion League more often,(due to the four places now) and yes we have made the quater and semi finals more, but you don’t get a cup for that. ….
I think the Man Utd need Villa more than they need Silva …
