Arch rivals do battle over La Liga star!
Valencia’s Spanish international David Silva is apparently at the centre of Manchester United‘s next transfer bid.
Reports in the Manchester Evening News claim the midfielder, who has been a long-term target for Sir Alex Ferguson, is set to be subject to a bid from United.
Silva is expected to play at Old Trafford in a friendly tomorrow and an impressive performance could pave the way for a move to Manchester.
The 23-year-old would be regarded as a great value purchase by Ferguson should he be able to do a deal for around £20 million.
Ferguson had claimed his summer spending spree was complete earlier in the transfer window, but could be tempted to do a deal at the right price.
United would face stiff competition from title rivals Liverpool whose Spanish contingent could convince Silva to sign for the Merseysiders.
Both clubs have also been interested in Silva’s team-mate David Villa but Valencia remain adamant the striker, valued at £40m, will not be leaving the club this summer. (Goal.com)
Of all the players linked with a move to Anfield the one that seems to attract the most positive mention from fellow fans is David Silva, trouble is, Sir Alex wants him also (probably just to annoy us all). I am sure that Valencia will have to give in and sell either Villa or Silva and at this moment in time I reckon the Spanish winger is far more likely to leave the Mestalla.
Could Liverpool do with such a signing? Well we have some decent options out on the wings but in truth we only have two actual out and out wingers at the club in the form of Albert Riera and Ryan Babel. Obviously Dirk Kuyt did fantastically well out on the right last term but is by no means a natural choice and the same could be said for Yossi Benayoun when he plays.
Personally in an ideal world the club could try to play with Kuyt alongside Torres and imagine the supply line the club would have if a Babel firing on all cylinders (when will that ever happen I hear you ask!) and Silva on the right!
Who would the fans like to see playing on the flanks next term?
