Liverpool’s Alonso Deal Sucks: Did We Get £30m or not?!
by Lee McAndrews on August 5th, 2009 182 words | 27 commentsRafa please use the money wisely!
After all this discussing, waiting, guessing, debating it has happened finally we can draw a line under it count the cash and spend it on some great, yes great, not decent or average players.
I just wish I knew who the hell he will bring in I have a sneaky suspicion that deals are lined up for at least 3 players.
What really grates my balls is after all this we will never find out how much they paid! They dragged it on and bloody on and there will be no details published. So the question is who got the better deal did we screw the serial tapper uppers or did they screw rafa over? Is that why we will never know and we are saving face? I seriously hope we got near what we were after else what was the point was he really that desperate to go?
I guess we will never know. Good luck Xabi you where class!

I have a good feeling about this window. And i reckon we’ll be fine with the Alonso replacement.
Hope it’s Aquilani!
vinsanity - August 5th, 2009 at 10:01 am
get defour and aquilani
Benji - August 5th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Liverpool chose to keep Xabis transfer price as disclosed so that other clubs do not hold them to ransom for transfers because we know that we have 30+ million…
Lfc rulezzzz - August 5th, 2009 at 10:05 am
Liverpool should buy a key player like sneidjer. And a striker. villa can be it 2.
Liverpool can win all cups
Benji - August 5th, 2009 at 10:06 am
PS… hope we get Aquilani and some good young english talent in case the 6+5 rule comes into action. I hoping for Ashley young as he is proven in the Premier League and Silva is not but is still awesome. Either way… Perhaps we could get Steven taylor as a defence backup as im sure he doesn’t want to play in the championship… even micah richards who can play CB and RB as cover.

I bet Liverpool got 30 million and as Benji said above; Why broadcast it. I just hope that now David Silva prefers to come to Liverpool rather than The Mancs. I don’t think Rafa will be tempted by David Villa as the price will be too high but you never know. Any one of Villa and Silva would strengthen the team. I haven’t seen very much of Aquilani too make a judgement..
Lfc rulezzzz - August 5th, 2009 at 10:16 am
liverpool should sell alonso more expensive so that liverpool can buy more players. but anyways good luck xabi at real madrid. WE love u.
9torres - August 5th, 2009 at 10:27 am
we’re laughing, we have £30m for a player who was worth less than half that a year ago. If we can get Aquilani, an attacking mid and a centre back we will have done well
9torres - August 5th, 2009 at 10:28 am
not sure about taylor though
livebird09 - August 5th, 2009 at 10:28 am
For that money, and the money we have, we can buy Aquilani and Silva
Thank you Xabi
appledave - August 5th, 2009 at 10:30 am
get aquilani and cattermole/ noble to replace him
Benji - August 5th, 2009 at 10:35 am
taylor is just a suggestion. besides he had nearly 30 appearances for the U21 English team and captained of the team on a few occasions. But only for the right price of course. About 5 million pounds is right for the 23yo.

There are many people that slate Benitez for his dealings in the transfer market but selling Alonso for 3 times what he bought him for 5 years ago is an amazing bit of business. Well done Rafa. Cheers Xabi.

I trust the time reliable newspaper. They say £30m and £5m add ons which sounds correct.
So…
Definently
£20m from americans at start of the window
£30m from Alonso
£2m from Leto
£3.5m from Arbeloa
Maybe ( Doubtful during this window though )
£5m Dossena
£6m Voronin
£2m Degen
Spent
£10.5m On johnson ( Portsmouth owed us £8.5m )
So our remaining transfer budget is:
£20m from americans at start of the window
£30m from Alonso
£2m from Leto
£3.5m from Arbeloa
-£10.5m from Johnson
Remaining £45m.
Now thats quite a lot in all honesty considering the scrutiny over our finance.
Players we have targeted and their price tags.
Aquilani – £18m
Silva – £20-24m
Villa – £35-£45m
Distin – £2-3m
So aquilani would leave us with enough to buy silva and probably distin.
Villa who has also been linked with us we could only afford him without buying silva or aquilani unless additional funds from the americans are added, which if they saw the idea of bringing villa to anfield may consider pumping in some more dollars as it would be very marketable.
Basically i think we will buy Silva and Aquilani.

ELLYRIE that sounds brilliant over 40 million recieved and with that we could add two very good signing. The only problem is that we have two rather unsavory yanks in charge with a monumental debt they have to pay off im sure that rafa will get some money to replace xabi but anymore money after that im not so sure. If the rumour mill is anything to go by than we are in the market for Poulson yet another squad player who is going to have little or no impact on our first team. Aquallini another name mentioned although no doubt gifted also slighty injury prone and we have also been linked to Defour again another player full of promise but no means the world class player we crave for.In summary and god i hope im wrong we could be starting with a midfield duo of lucas and masch with thelikes plessis sitting on the bench waiting to spring into action. But then again maybe my scepticism is wrong and rafa will go out surprise us all with a raid on valencia and come the start of the season we could well have a forward line to rival the best in europe here is hoping either way its going to be again a rollercoaster of a season
LFC the gretest club in the world !!!!!!!!!!1 - August 5th, 2009 at 11:34 am
40-50mill from what we already have 20 from americans 30 from xabi 3.5 from arbeloa 2-3mill from leto
then the americans are going to give liverpool 40-50mill more
so thats 80-100 mill
so thats brillient for liverpool
but the americans are going to say that thats for 3-5 years
liverpool are going to buy
aquillani
martinez
villa/aguero
silva/mata
walcott/lennnon
distin/abidal
negredo/dos santos/bojan
or splash most of it on lionel messie
matty - August 5th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Apparantly we got £30m upfront with 2-3m in add ons in the next 2 years of a 4 year contract. He is coming up to 28 and was bought for £10.5m. Not bad business from Benitez.
I hope Rafa has it all to spend. After he signed Johnson he said he had enough for another big signing without selling players and now with this £30m I’m sure we have enough for 2 major players.

Im sorry but People commenting here actually know anything about Aquilani???
This is his stats in the last 3 seasons:
2006-07 13 league games 22 games in total
2007-08 21 league games 31 games in total
2008-09 14 league games 20 games in total ( All out of a possibe in around 52 games)
U will find that not very impressive and that he is very very injury prone. People please look into players and not follow transfer gossip from tabloids like the sun newspaper etc and all of a sudden think the player reported is this fantasic signing.
Fact – Aquilani is only at most a decent player with a very bad injury record.

I would say that ppl are having a knee jerk reaction to what the likes of Madrid n City are doing.
Firstly there is not alot wrong with the likes of L´pool,Chelsea and Utd.
Clubs like Madrid and City need to spend and need it quick as they have both had a terrible run of trophyless seasons so there is a desperate need.
And in City´s case they need the “here today” type signings but we´ll see where they end up.
So its only natural that they spend but have they signed a world class player…no.but what they have done is buy players that can help them compete.
Whereas Utd,L´pool n Chelsea are 1/2 signings away from going further away from City because they are already estabilished.
So while fans can moan and get itchy feet abt what there clubs are doin i would say look at say
L´pool-Gerrard/Torres/Reina/Kuyt/Johnson/Carra/Agger/Skrtel/Masch(+ now armed with cash from the Alonso sale) 1-2 signings and things wont look that bad.+ youngsters like Nemeth.
Chelsea-Terry/Cech/Lampard/Drogba/Cole-A+J/Essien/Anelka+cash to spend
Arsenal-Cesc/Walcott/Arshavin/Van Persie/Clichy/Sagna/+cash fromthe Kolo + manu sale + youngsters
Man Utd-Rio/Vidic/Evra/Carrick/Rooney/Berba/Owen+cash and youngsters.
Now look at City and ask if whoever they have signed is better than what your team has as a spine and ask whether you are gonna be overly worried by what they are doin.
And if you are worried then do you really trust the manager in charge of your club.If not you must obviously trust Mark Hughes more!
ONLY1KUYT - August 5th, 2009 at 11:58 am
i think the yanks have a secret big money signing that they will let rafa make, rafa said himself he may even break the transfer record this summer!! bring in aguero and i will jizz in my pants!!
therafalution - August 5th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
a deal for aquilani now seems to be off, christian poulson will arrive this week for £6 million. freeing up the funds for silva. liverpool will make a £30 million move for aquero, however if a deal isnt done for him or villa, expect a certain mr henry to be wearing red again next season.
Si P - August 5th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
you just wonder whether the fact it is confidential and undisclosed means that we backed down a little bit. Either that, or there is Madrid player involved?
Hope not. Use the 30m + whatever we have (and throw in Babel if nec) to get Aguero to Anfield.
Hope he gets such a good reception on Saturday that he won’t want to leave without signing up !! Wishful thinking, but hey, it’s much more fun speculating on who’s coming in than who’s going out
JCWW - August 5th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
again worrying shouts for this injury iti!
please do not go near him….bring back RICK PARRY if this is what Rafa Im in charge of all means!
reading some of the comments & yes they are opinions…the one shout for me that stands out is mark noble….an absolute gem of a player & having prem experience…is one of the best players outside of the supposed big four Liverpool, Hull, Stoke, & Coach & Horses….& would be a cheaper & more reliable than the rubbish we keep being linked with….& what about spearing maybe give the kid a chance…he cant be any worse than the consistently turkish delight that fucking Pope Rafa has inflicted on us…ooops apols I mean Raunchy Rick….when are fans going to see beyond this…..
the money of xabi must not be spent or wasted on squad & bench warmers…they must be FIRST 11 ready….none of this shite of being bedded in…the time is now RAFA….if not our 18 league heritage…now hanging from its last breadth….will be consigned to the history books we for so long….happily sung about….?????????????
don hutch has a wonderful cru
JCWW - August 5th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
it was meant to say crutch…!
Pool5 - August 5th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
therafalution u make me laugh
If only carlsberg done liverpool signings eh!!!!
Poulsen is a waste, not a chance of villa or aguero signing and maybe silva signs which would be nice….
BE REALISTIC
Pool5 - August 5th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Lads what ya reckon of signing Santi Cazorla to replace alonso???? Ok he is lightweight but his attacking skills are top class???
Spanish international with a very good games, goals and assists ratio for Villareal?????
Donavan Ried - August 5th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Knowing Rafa (which i do not) but judging by his past deals in the transfer market, No we did not get £30m… How much did he want for Crouch,Arbeloa, Bellamy,Dudek?…. Did he get it? …… why is the deal a “Undisclosed” amount?… lets face it Rafa is week in the transfer market
