With some of the Alonso cash still burning a hole in Rafa’s pocket and some cash from Leto and Arbeloa sales on the table, perhaps Messrs Hicks and Gillett can dig into their pockets to cover these signings, they could well lead the club to a sustained title push and perhaps end the painful wait for a Premier League title! Far be it from me to tell Mr. Benitez what to do, clearly he is very capable of the Anfield job, these are just thoughts that have been rattling around in my head and thought i’d share them with you all.
David Silva Valencia: Valuation – £25m
The player every Liverpool fans wants to see in a Reds jersey. Can play well across the midfield and with Riera struggling with fitness and form could fit nicely on the left or behind Torres in the hole behind the striker.
Javi Martinez Atletico Bilbao: Valuation £12m
With Javi on board Lucas can either rot in the reserves or return to Brazil (where apparently they think he is actually quite good!). Young Spaniard can be brought along slowly or thrown in at the deep end. Already a seasoned La Liga campaigner despite being just 20. What better way to replace Xabi than by signing Alonso Mk II.
Sol Campbell Portsmouth: Valuation Free
Available for nothing, has one or two seasons in the tank and would jump at the chance of one last time to shine. May seem a strange choice to some but what we may have to fork out in wages is covered by not having to pay a dime for his services. Yes, he’s 34 but still very fit.

Since when is it a disgrace to voice your disapproval of a player? Surely its part and parcel of being a fan? Lucas is not a good player, simple as that, he isn’t good enough to play for Liverpool, so surely stating that makes you just as much of a fan as someone who never slags off a player. By stating a player isn’t good enough to wear the clubs shirt you are showing your loyalty to the club as much as anyone.

What is the point in getting Silva I mean think about it Liverpool has no end of wingers – Kuyt, Riera, Babel, Benayoun, El Zhar, if we are strugglin we have Gerrard Johnson even Dossena. Also he is a bit lightweight for the EPL and 25 mil which is most of our transfer kitty.
We have just bought Aquilani for about 20 mil so its pointless spendin 12 mil on Martinez and we have Gerrard, Mascherano, Aquilani, Lucas, Spearing so we do not need him.
Sol Campbell is fine but ancient then again if hes free why not?
But what we need is another great striker – David Villa. Yes I know hes going to cost a lot but if we want to win the league we need great not good. Then imagine him playing along side Torres with Gerrard just behind – mouth watering I know.
Adapt the formation back to 4 1 3 2 and if one of the 2 strikers gets injured change to last seasons 4 2 3 1.

Bruce, I hate to get involved in this; but what he means is its alright for fans of other clubs to slag off their players, but its not liverpool fans style; as they hope to give as much support as possible to all their players in the hopes of winning trophies. Also if you slag a player of too much, and they read rumours it can affect their confidence and form.

Rafa’s played 2 up front in the past it was only really last season he changed to Torres on his own.
Considering we have just sold Alonso I dont believe the 4 2 3 1 formation will work anymore since he was essential for that formation.

What amazes me with all these formations and line-ups suggested is that NONE of them have Yossi in them.
He was phenomenal last season and through consistent and match-winning performances had bullied his way into the first team being rotated with Kuyt and Riera.
Signing Silva would be deeply odd (as odd as buynig Keane) when we have Yossi, Gerrard, Riera, Babel and Kuyt – all of whom support Torres from deeper.

I think we deffinately havent got the funds to buy Javi Martinez because of the transfer of Aquilani but i strongly believe that it is essential for Liverpoolzs title chances to bring in David Silva because it is all well ahving Gerrard and Torres but when they get injured we dont have anyone near that standard so i believe Rafa NEEDS to buy Silva first and then start thinking of centre backs like Distin and Turner. I dont think we should get Campell, hes a good player but past it now i believe! Pull your finger Rafa and the Yanks and stop dwelling over lost targets!

it’s either villa or silva maybe another defender on a free. we don’t need to hav any more cm. we got gerrard, mascherano, aquilani, lucas (who started against the likes of man utd and chelsea last year so even tho he’s not great, he can do the job especially for the smaller games). Also i’d like to see Spearing play a bit more too he’s got passion and he had a gd game wen he came on in the champions league last year(was it against Real Madrid?) About people who are saying villa, torres and gerrard behind them wud be very awesome but unlikely. I’d like to see Silva but we hav the likes of Benayoun and Babel. I’d like to hav another striker in my opinion.

Would add depth to the squad in needed areas. Would add more creative build up for attack which we desperately need on those home games where the opposition flood the defence. A combination of sliva, Torres, Gerard, riera with aquilano coming up from midfield could solve that problem

Riera is a classic winger: by the nature of wingers he is liable to be either the best or worst player on the pitch. I think he’s a wonderful asset and that rarest of things at Liverpool: an entertainer! He, Yossi and occasionally Torres are our only players who with a flash of pure skill can beat a player with some nimble footwork. We have so few flair players at the club that a player like Riera deserves a lot of credit.
I like Riera a lot. I also like Yossi. I see no need for Silva, we’d be better off buying 2 £10M players as cover for Torres and Aquilani if they get injured.

Lucas-mongering is the only sensible position anymore. Even my six year old son shrugs in frustration, “why does he keep passing to the other team?”
Whatever we do, it must include relegating Lucas to the practice squad, or better yet, back to Brazil. I’d sooner play Sol Campbell in midfield than Lucas, he’s just that bad and it’s the kind of thing that’s got even the loyal Rafa supporters questioning his judgment.

Sorry was just testing, none of my posts have been able to upload for some reason. I must say i`ve been really impressed with alot of comments on here exceptions of a few lovers tifs between allegedly grown men. Ye opinions are welcome and i see both sides of the coin for lucas. i think it was stevie G that also said hes only 22 and the quality is there in training. hey stevie our captain. Sorry rafa backs him, Stevie backs him then ill back him for another season. Remember with the Roman Aq coming him and having to adjust ,lucas then can help in this transition. Oh by the way Lucas was there when we beat utd and he didn`t look crap it taught me alot. I`ve learnt its the teams performance as a whole that wins you matches not just individuals. lucas didnt cost us home draws. the team did. Think like rafa guys. the team and balance comes first.
Anyway back to who are we gonna buy? I have a very strange feeling that we may have just two signings. first 5 mil or less for a defender and another 10 mil for a midfield player.i think the Rafa will stick with voronin,kuyt,babel for upfront cover im afraid.
kuyt is mr reliable a credit to liverpool fc, works for the team and scores crucial goals.
in Babel I see moments og genius but only wen he plays upfront. Rafa he aint winger and even if he was he`d be on the right side not the left. i saw him beat the defender in a fantastic way against lyon but goalkeeper was first to ball. This gives me hope.Wat he must learn is skill and more awareness. What hes got is pace ,power and can shoot. but he can`t cross with his left leg to save his life.
Mmm voronin? im surprised we can even get get 5 mil for him. watched him in pr season and I dont think he`s changed. hes not a leader and needs alot of space to operate. Close him down and he`s inactive. But hey he could play a small role with the F.A. cup and not but never a big occassion man.
Last point I only think we got 15-20mil tops left at a push. I think we should have more but hey thats what being owned by the yanks does to us.
Good news is alonso wage is used on the roman but the money from the other players we sold were used or be used to improve contracts for our players. We also have to sort out mach the argy as well. This all has to be done in a strict budget which rafa is aware of.
10 mil for a striker? you get nothing. Ngog is now worth 3 mil at least.I like him.but prolific strikers are very very expensive.
One last thing I think rafa made a mistake on owen big time if he doesnt find a better option.Could paid him 40k a week and just kept him on bench as punishment for the way he left if not anything. Still thinking about babel and if i was rafa id put him up front wen we are beating our opponents and they have to come out and not play deep. he would then exploit the channels and use his his pace and strength.this will increase his confidence and bring the best out of him.

so why not villa (dont want aguero) he has already stated that the only english team he would come to is liverpool. just maybe rafa will get some money off the yanks so he could put in a 40-50mil bid in for him. it definately will not surprise me if he joins us.

I think with Alonos gone, it is not tweaking or patch work but massive re-work needed.
I have seen potential in babble but after yesterday I would let him go as no improvement.
sell voronin, itandje, dossena, degan, babble, el zhar, spearing, lucas and javi mash – yes him. All not good enough and Mash too limited in what he offers – only good against top teams when his role is simple. Radical – Yes but I think could be done.
Contraversal yes about Javi Mash but dont rate him – too limited specacilst for PL – people slagging Levi should look at Mash yesterday – hopeless and cant pass. Another contraversal, I never want to see Silvia in a LFC shirt unless we get him for free. I hope man u pay 25 M for him – he is not PL standard and will do nothing, recent games for Sapin are very poor and Riera looks a much better players for Sapin. Silvia would be crushed in the PL.
So what to do – some surgery . So when I say selll babble how about swap for Young ? plus a few million if need be.
We need CB cover but not crazy money, we have 3 good CB and two young lads and I like Kelly and spanish guy looked ok yesterday when he came on – but they are for the future so need experienced or englsih CB.
So for me it is not Camball – too old and slow and he needs to play to keep sharpness, so options:
Distin / Taylor / Upson but only at right price. Max spend is 6M but distin much cheaper – i rate him but home grown is better for CL.
Now goalie and defencde sorted with Aurillio comming back and Darby also given some time when we are coasting in games. Rafa has to learn how to play young players.
midfiled with – replace javi mash with Yaya Toure + 15M to us or Javi Martinez and we pocket 15M – then buy sniejder with the 15M.
Javi Martinez offers much more then just holding, powerful box to box but looks like he can tackle which is all javi mash can do.
Strikes – Villa, Aguero or Negredo in that order. I like Villa and think he can play top man or supprt man. Aguero could be fantastic with Torres too or lead the line. Negredo is last option but not sure he could play with Torres more cover for him.
About money – who knows how much we have, but I think the above could be achieved. We need a striker that can play with Torres or cover him – people who say buy Silvia ? – is he going to play with Gerrard up front, Kuyt does not work up there so this would be a waste of money. The above should fetch about 63M
How much we got now, some people think it should be about 40/50m but I think new contracts for players and staff have eating a chunk as have bank repayments. Still there should be 20 M avaiulable. Now that and 63 makes a fund for buying and wages.

Distin Centre back and Podolski Forward.
And sell voronin and lucas as soon as possible as they are wastes of space and do not have the quality to wear the shirt!!!!!!

The rest of the ‘money’ goes on the interest payment that is due in january or possibly on restarting the stadium project. That is the most sensible use for it and the sooner people start to realise that the LONG term future of this club is far more important than a knee jerk reaction to attempt to win the title, the better. Spending 60 or 70 million on 3 players may win us that title, but if we over stretch ourselves, it coud spell the end of the football club as we know it. Sensible, long term budgeting and planning will ultimately bear fruits, but we have to be patient. We NEED a new ground and we NEED to keep the wolves of potential administration away from the door. Rafa has a vast and expensively assembled squad. I would rather see us concentrating on getting the best out of what we already have, rather than jeapordising the future of the club in speculation, with the financial situatio being the way it is.
