Liverpool’s Aquilani Passes Medical But Still Injured!
by YNWA on August 7th, 2009 53 commentsHe did it!

Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that Alberto Aquilani has successfully completed a medical and agreed a 5-year contract with the club.
The player will now continue his rehabilitation from an ankle operation under the guidance of Liverpool’s medical team and is expected to be fully fit in approximately 4-8 weeks time. (Official Liverpool Website)
Well a few people thought this may not go quite so swimmingly, after all Alberto has had his fair share of aches and pains, but he convinced the club doctors that he will recover from his current injury and serve the club well. He put pen to paper on a five year deal and I will personally be sending him a get well soon card!

We definitely need a big name quality player to kick start things as the team is looking a tad stale.

The big I am - August 7th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
rafa said we had one more signing in our budget before alonso said he wanted to go but then alonso said he wanted to go lol and it took them ageis to sort that lepracoun piss out . . . . so now we have an extra 10mill on top of what was left before alonso went. And if what was left of the budget was 15 mill that the press said it was (unlikley but av got nothing else to go on) then we have 25 mill . . . . . i could smell shiney new piece of silva on the books ! ! ! wheeeeey
Liverpool FC Danny - August 7th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Does this mean Lucas is in until he is fit??? NOOOOO!!!!!! We need to sign cover like Martinez or Defour or a striker like Negredo and it could be a 4-4-2 formation:
Reina
Johnson——-Carra———Skrtel——–Fabio
Masch
Kuyt——————–Gerard——————-Yossi/Riera
Torres————–Negredo

c’mon rafa we still need a replacement for Alonso for 2-4 + some more time for Aquilani to fit in. every lfc fan in GH wants silva.
Taylor - August 7th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Lucas has said that he wants to move to Palmeiras. Silve might be in the works right now, but I think everyone is forgetting how well Yossi showed up for us last year. The guy is a gamer and should get more first team looks this year. I think we need to shore up the midfield and maybe add another defender because we all know Agger won’t last the season, but we should be good at striker.

LFC FAN - August 8th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Rafa has to be the dumbest manager ever, signing an injury prone midfilder who’s overated and overpriced. I could coach liverpool better i would have signed defour or matinez. seriously how much cash has benitez wasted. If this were another manager we would have won the tittle by now. I think Benitez should be sacked.
CAPS - August 8th, 2009 at 1:46 am
i agree lfc fan benitez should just be a tech nical director coz as a manager hes a donk any half witted manager could see from last year that all we needed was another striker thats it, losing arbeloa is a great loss and alonzo and to me if i was the manager none of them 2 would have gone no matter how much they winged specially xabi sighned a contract dude for 5 years means u stay for them 5 years now he goes and spend 20 million on a player who cant play for 2 months what a joke and hes injury prone well done rafa u muppet need to open ure eyes raf and look a round theres plenty of midfielders in the world that could of fitted into our side and start on the pitch on the opening day ,after coming so close last year i was excited to see the new season start with a few additions and a few donks gone but its gone in the opposite direction kept the donks lucas, dossena got rid of class arbeloa and alonzo, all was needed was a striker like huntellar young and has a great scoring record, we wil fail this year and i hate to say this it will be chelseas year they have quality all over the park when they go shopping they look near the top shelf while we linger near the bottom shelfs and the damaged goods sections its a joke put king kenny back in charge at least he knows what he is doing and u can go to real madrid rafa u seem to be letting ure best players go there thats probably coz ull be next on their list coz u no this year u will fail once again and when u go take them american idiots with u so we can get some one to buy our great club and has the passion to see us succeed at any cost not be an american greedy git looking for a profit when he aint going to get one good luck any way this year lads do us proud whatever the out come
Tom Ynwa - August 8th, 2009 at 4:17 am
I wish Aquilani welcome to the club and as Liverpool supporters we should support him. I think he will do great. You dont need a big name to be a success.
Sure we want David Silva. But I think Aquilani can be a impact if he stays of injuries. The best of luck to him.

Dave in Ireland - August 8th, 2009 at 6:54 am
This has got to be the dumbest move ever by Rafa . Usually we are out of the running by September , it must be a first that we will be out it before the season even starts . The only thing is , has he lined another player to play up front and then move Gerrard back ? Strange move by an increasingly strange manager
supercooper - August 8th, 2009 at 7:52 am
omg stupid liverpool fans how the hell do any of you think uve got the cash 2 buy Villa, even b4 ud bought Aquilani u wudnt have had enuf 4 him!!!!!

lfc eire - August 8th, 2009 at 11:25 am
can’t wait to see aquilani show his class in the prem and laugh at all u stupid f@cks for doubting rafa.we have enough in our squad to cope with his loss until he’s fit, whether we buy or not.i think we might offload lucas and buy defour or cattermole.try supporting our manager and our players you douche bags..
LFC "Supporter" - August 8th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
BTW, most of our budget has gone into signing new contracts this year, that’s why we’re strapped for cash.
liverpool - August 8th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
so if he is out for 4-8 weeks that means rafa has to sign another quality player
you never no might be silva or villa
MR RED - August 8th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
no silva or villa rafa`s short of cash and wants a defender.
-lfc- - August 8th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
he wants a midfielder also because aquilani is injured and is lacking depth in that area but is keen to get a cheap defender
MR RED - August 8th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
spanish tv says he was offered silva by valencia but turned it down due 2 lck of funds.
-lfc- - August 8th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
he can get defour but we would need to get a very cheap defender or striker maybe we can take up that negredo offer?
freddyboswell - August 8th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Aquilani will be a good signing as long as he stays fit,,,Torres missed most of lat season and this probably cost us the league..so why arent you all saying he injury prone and not good enough forliverpool///give the lad a chance..id say he will be good in europe…andwill be morepositive goin forward..andhehas amuch better ey for goal…Alonso just hit lots of nearly goals..nouseifthey dont goin..sure alonso missedhis peno in the champs finalagainst AC ..got the rebound by the skin of his teeth..and scored 2 lucky efforts against Luton and newcastle..after that he has done fck all over five years…he is to densive and makes a lot of sloppy mistakes too…most of you guys havent a clue about what your looking at when liverpool play football..if liverpool win 7or 8 games on the bonce yis all talk up the team..and forget about the sloppy parts of their game…iv seen liverppol win 3-0 but still waste lots of good chances..sloppy passes andget away with someslack defending..but peeps still talk upthe wins..and forget they stillhave poorplayers and an inconsistant pack of defenders….
Dave in Ireland - August 8th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
LFC Eire . I hate to say this but we are rearing Gobshites like you here . I am following Liverpool 40 years , but just remind me again how many premier leagues have we won under Rafa ? , if we have this all conquering squad where is the proof ! We could not score against average teams at home last year when either Torres or Gerrard were out .
IsraeliKaka - August 8th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Well said Freddy. People forget about the sloppy aspects to Xabi’s game. For every 40 yard pass there was him passsing straight to the opposition or getting robbed off the ball because he was caught napping.
IsraeliKaka - August 8th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Dave in Ireland
2-1 against Utd without Torres of Gerrard.
But you’re right about the Prem titles!

dave ireland, how many trophies did fergie win in his first five years? it took him at least 5 years to get a decent side together.raffa has transformed the team in the years he’s been with us compared to what he started with. aquilani has been bought to play in between gerrard and masch exactly where alonso played except aquilani is a more attacking type of player this is what rafa has said. i’m sure if you ever seen aquilani play you wouldn’t be spouting this shit. who mentioned anything about an all conquering squad? try supporting rafa and the players we already have at the club and not acting like a complete gobshite.supporting liverpool for 40 years my arse,we’d be better off without support like yours.
LFC FAN - August 9th, 2009 at 12:45 am
beardboy im just saying with how much money rafa has had 4 transfers we should have won the premier league by now. If aquanali is injured for half a season 4 roma in the serie a he would constantly be injured in the premier league where it is much more physical. Rafa could have signed a much better cm for the price we paid for Aqualani.
James C - August 9th, 2009 at 2:39 am
Wait, wait, wait. We could have had Huntelaar, and either Van Der Vaart or Sneijder, for the price of Xabi (who are top class Dutch internationals worthy of playing for Real in the first place), put instead we spent 20 mil pounds on a guy who is excellent in PES5 but hasn’t proved to be anywhere near as good as most other Serie A midfielders enough to claim the top spot, and Serie produces the most premiership flops. WTF????? Does Rafa know how to buy players? He took months, HAGGLING for 30 Mil over Xabi Alonso (proven premiership player Xabi Alonso), to spend 20 on Aquilani? Could we not have spent 25 on Silva? Gotten the Real Madrid world class trio? It seems like Manuel Pellegrini is a typical South Amoronican who doesn’t want any dutch players lingering in his squad. I say take advantage of his Gallic prejudices and steal those players. AC MIlan payed, what, 13 mil for Huntelaar? Ridiculous.
Dave in Ireland - August 9th, 2009 at 8:11 am
LfC Eire . I have seen Aquilani play several times , my point is that we will not see him play this year until October . Do you not think that is is important to make a good start . And by the I hope in to meet you over at Anfield as I assume you are also a season ticket holder
lfc eire - August 9th, 2009 at 10:08 am
dave ireland, i can only wish i will be a season ticket holder someday.point taken we need a good start.hopefully his absence will force other players to step up there game and give rafa a selection headache when aquilani’s fit. ynwa
Donavan Ried - August 9th, 2009 at 11:35 am
James C – August 9th, 2009 at 2:39 am …….. Some here claim that Rafa is amongst the top ten managers in the world … LMAO
“AC MIlan payed, what, 13 mil for Huntelaar? Ridiculous.” Could not agree with you more, instead Rafa ( I walk on water) Benitez spend £20m on a player with a serious injury that has only played a hand full of games in Serie Abecause he has show a glimmer of “Potential”?….. Theres that word again “Potential” Does anyone Really understand the true meaning of this word????? I think not
What i can’t understand is that before the start of last season both Bastian Schweinsteiger ( with six months on his contract) and Lukas Podolski (11 months on his) were available and could have been bought on the cheap €10 million for Podolski and a “free” for Schweinsteiger …….. You can’t be a top manager if you let your prejudice get in the way of signing players ….. There are some great German players out there ….. I nhave checkedon the net and as far as i can tell Rafa has never signed a German player for Extremadura,Tenerife or Valencia …… “We could have had Huntelaar, and either Van Der Vaart or Sneijder, for the price of Xabi” …… That would have been a smart move, but then Rafa is not that smart is he!
jcww - August 9th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
well the seaon is ahead of us …& I for one are very fearful of it going tits up…nothing against the new singning…but injured till OCT…109 games if Im correct in 5 seasons does not fill me with confidence…..this on top of our obvious centre back issues…is sadly maybe the need for fans to start opening their eyes to rafa his constant whinges & moans…& his overall success of buying has been poor for to long….his praising of players who have to be up with the worst signings ever is laughable & embarrasing …rafa has what won two cup finals…as manager both by penalties due to the efforts of two GK & mr reliable GERRARD…yet most think he is the man to lead us forward…even if we can win the league which is highly unlikely…I for one look forward to the day the trust in this man is booted into the mersey & with rafa with a huge fuckinhg anchor tied to us ankles….the amount of top talent available has been there for the taken …but like always we sniff…we wiff..& then we wait…& then lose out…dont be blaming parry now crappa rafa…god help us…because our 18 league triumphs will be history….& who could have predicted this?

trust rafa he only paid 4.25 mill up front that leaves aboutup to 50 mill!!!
then buy silva and aguero for players plus add ons
then swap bable and vorinin for cattermole
and buy turner for 5 mill plus add ons
pay in installments for thease then buy douglas costa for 6 mill
and that would be the transfers for me
bring home #19

I am so glad that you dont manage the club. You dont have a clue…
Firstly we dont have £50M to spend, thats an idiot statement, truth be told nobody but Rafa and the board know whats left.
Secondly, Silva and Aguero would cost more than 50M…
thirdly, Babel is going to have a big part to play in the season ahead, and if he gets his chance to play upfront, then he wont disapoint.
