London rivals battle over accomplished striker.

Bundesliga - Wolfsburg vs Munich 5-1

Harry Redknapp is ready to hijack West Ham’s bid for Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni after missing out on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Italy international Toni is friends with Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola and is keen to link up with his fellow Italian at Upton Park according to his agent.

However, reports today suggest Spurs could be set to make a last minute bid after missing out on long term target Huntelaar, who is to join AC Milan, as they are keen to add another striker to their squad after selling Darren Bent to Sunderland.

Toni’s reported wages of around £90,000 a week are said to be hindering his chances of a move to West Ham, which could allow Redknapp the opportunity to beat Zola to the 32-year-old’s signature. (Eat Sleep Sport)

Luca Toni has been an incredible success in Germany but it appears he is ready to quit the Bundesliga for the final challenge of his career in the form of a dream Premier League move. In two seasons at Bayern Munich the Italian has netted 47 goals in 67 League matches.

I am not quite sure how the 32 year old former Fiorentina man would fit into Harry Redknapp’s plans with Tottenham already playing home to four international strikers, including the recent acquired Peter Crouch. West Ham‘s need is clearly greater and the players agent had claimed that Zola was very keen to securing the unlikely capture but the players high wage demands appear to give the north London side the edge of the Hammers.
