Liverpool’s Next Signing Will Be £12m Attacking Midfielder?
by YNWA on August 9th, 2009 397 words | 18 commentsFast improving Frenchman on Rafa’s radar
A number of Bundesliga clubs have stepped up their interest in Marseille’s playmaker Mathieu Valbuena who is a target for a number of Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham. Reports in both the German and French press suggest Hertha Berlin, Hamburg and Schalke are ready to make formal bids as interest in the diminutive Frenchman continues to grow.
The player himself seems in no rush to move unless a progressive club comes in for him after revealing, “I am fine, I have a contract until 2012.”
“If I want to move I will move to a club with ambition, not just any club. I am old enough to make sure I make the right decision.”
Previous comments made by the player’s agent Christophe Hutteau suggested English clubs had the advantage. He told skysports.com, “Mathieu would very much be interested in playing in England as the Premier League is the best in Europe.”
“I think Mathieu would like to go to a big team in England.
“Liverpool are also interested in Mathieu, but so are teams in Spain, Germany, Italy and Russia.
“I think Mathieu will leave Marseille and I think it is very possible he could play in England this season.” (Football Pools)
Knowing that Alberto Aquilani could be out for two months and having lost Xabi Alonso the club could well do with some more creativity in the the midfield and Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena has been consistently linked with the club for some time now and the player’s agent suggests that a deal could well be about to be made for a move to England, but could that mean a move to Anfield?
Many of Europe’s elite club have been eyeing up the diminutive 24 year old and given the fact that he wouldn’t cost the earth I can see why he has been linked with a move to the club but again would he be anything more than a squad player? Whilst he is a good player, he is by no means an earth shattering one and therefore there will be questions about his suitability.
He did of course score a cracker against the Reds a few years back and is on the verge of a call up to the French national side so if the price could be lowered then it could be an option.

I dont think this deal will go through i think if Rafa was going to get a midfielder he would deffinately go for Cattermole! And then i think he will sign either Turner, Distin or Richards as extra cover in deffence and then with the left overs he will sign Silva or Aguero but im pretty sure Silva because he would only want to join Liverpool and im sure Rafa could confince him because he did coach at Valencia! I have heard that the two clubs are in talks because both parties have announced this but they have yet agreed a fee! Expect this deal to start picking up pace within the next two weeks! Valencia are starting to panic that they have over priced Silva and Villa and no body will buy them so i think they will end up selling Silva to Liverpool for a fee aroung £20 million!

Rafa should invest in two more defenders…the young players could be ripped apart and we could lose everygame until we have our strongest defenders back playing ..i would only play one of our youth team defenders in the premier league ..if we drop pionts from our first 4 -6 games in the league..we will be chasing 4th by october…Rafa snap the fuck outta of it ..purchase a quality LB and a quality CB ..and then go get silva..and a striker …with johnson and Aquilani to come in later on we will have enough players to compete on all fronts…league ..champions league and the FA cup ….sign turner ,distan or richards or even brede hangeland..

Obviously i would love to sign ‘Kun’ Aguero, but do we really have the funds? If we do not then i would not mind if rafa’s remaining money was invested into Turner of Hull and Valbuena of Marseille. In my eyes i see Mathieu as the ‘new Deco’ he is very similar in his play and does anyone remember his strike against a few years back?!
We all agree that the squad needs to strengthen so (if we do not have the funds for a big signing ie. Aguero) then i think Mathieu would be a fantasic addition to an already good squad. He is very versatile with the ability to play on the wing, centre mid and behind the striker(s). With Alberto out for as much as 6 weeks then Valb could very much provide adequate cover, or indeed cover for the injured Riera?
In an ideal world we would sign a new defender, Aguero and Valbuena but so close to the new season and are limited funds this will not happen will it? First choice Aguero, second choice Valbuena and a new defender…….

4get him we need aguero
Si P - August 9th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Don’t get him – Yossi can do that job at least as well as Valbuena. If we can’t afford to sign Aguero, don’t spend the money we do have – either save it for next year or agree a deal to take Aguero next summer and pay a down payment
TRAVIS - August 9th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Good call si p. Save ur money for someone who will start in the 1st team. A sneijer, a robben even a vdv. Yossi can cover this guy, put the money towards a guaranteed starter that is better in the position that is currently filled.

all liverpool need is a striker to go with torres then we can score more goals beter then oher team you need to sort your self out
Scouse Magic - August 10th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
First of all we do not need another midfielder!!! Secondly, Rafa get to that board room and tell the yanks we need money and fast, we need at least 1 Centre Back and 1 Striker. Failure to do so will leave us drastically short of cover, the youngsters at the back are not ready, (Although i think Martin Kelly has a bright future) and if Torres get’s injured, Voronin, N’Gog, Babel are not good enough.
