Champions League winners make themselves look like idiots..again!
Barcelona are said to have turned their attention to Cesc Fàbregas after failing to sign Javier Mascherano, the Liverpool midfield player. The Catalan club believe that an offer in the region of £25 million could tempt Arsenal to sell the Spain midfield player, who has expressed his unhappiness at the club’s failure to win a trophy in the past four seasons. Fàbregas, who has five years left on his contract, has committed his future to Arsenal this summer, but many feel that a transfer is likely next summer. (Times Online)
This is a new tactic from the Catalan giants. The tactic appears to give off a radiance of utter confidence that they will sign a player, regardless of a) the fact the player has pledged his immediate future at another club and b) the amount they seem to believe will be enough to sign him is in fact an insult, a big fat insult no less.
Lets look at the figure for a second. £25m. Now that used to be a hell of a lot of money in footballing terms but now that is only marginally more than what Everton are demanding for Joleon Lescott, my how the whole has changed.
If Arsene or Arsenal Football Club were ever to be tempted by such a deal we would have to be talking about a figure somewhere in the region of £70m and even then the club would be doing itself no end of resultant damage if they took even that large fee.
My advice to the Nou Camp side is this. Don’t bother getting your local papers to do your bidding for you. Put in a bid yourself, you know, a real one. The way most respectable clubs do business. Hell even if it is an insulting bid you put in, at least you would come off as a less of a joke than you do now. Hell they tried the same trick with Liverpool and their midfielder Mascherano. Given the way Real Madrid also handle themselves in the transfer market I am wondering if there are any guidelines whatsoever against such behaviour in La Liga?
