Season ahead promises to be a problematic one for former England International.
Premiership clubs are circling for Tottenham winger David Bentley.
The People says Darren Bent’s new side Sunderland are interested in Bentley and another of his former team-mates, Michael Dawson.
Aston Villa are also keen on Bentley, as are Everton, and are looking to pair the 24-year-old up in midfield with Real Madrid’s Dutch ace Wesley Sneijder. (The People)
Clubs are queuing up to sign the Spurs misfit, but why is no one actually putting in a bid for the former Blackburn Rovers and Arsenal man? Well it’s clear to see Bentley has the tricks and occasional ability to get you on the edge of your seat but its equally clear to see that Tottenham should not have shelled so much cash (£15m) on the back of one good season at Ewood Park.
Some may say that he has been treated harshly by Harry Redknapp who has barely given the 24 year old England international a look in, but then given the boss’s success at White Hart Lane it’s not hard to see why he was overlooked. Now its all well and good to see the likes of Sunderland, Aston Villa and Everton expressing an interest but I get a sneaking suspicion that none of them will actually put their money where there mouth is, simply because they would not want to make a similarly unsuccessful gamble on Bentley and for that reason it seems like the coming season may be a very tough one for the attacking midfielder.
