VVV Venlo chairman Hai Berden has revealed that several top European clubs have expressed an interest in signing Keisuke Honda, according to a report on Skysports.com.

Honda is highly-rated in Holland, winning the MVP award in Eerste Divisie last season, and starting life in the Eredivisie with three goals in two games.

“A number of top clubs are interested in Honda. Some of them are participating in the Champions League this year.” Berden told Algemeen Dagblad.

Liverpool scouts have been watching the free-scoring midfielder for some time, and Honda has admitted in the past that a move to the Premier League would interest him.

“Playing in a league as prestigious as the Premiership would be a dream,” Honda stated previously.

This one appears to have come out of the blue but I guess doesn’t make it any less likely. Having not known much about the Japanese midfielder I decided to watch some You Tube vids of him, and he looked pretty impressive but then I guess any player can be made to look promising in a 3 minute edited clip, perhaps even Salif Diao comes across like a world class talent when viewed in this manner, but it’s unlikely.

He is apparently great from set pieces and is an attacking player with an eye for goal and helped his side VVV Venlo into the Eredivisie last term as his goals from midfield, 16 of them, led the club to the Eerste_Divisie championship. He has started this current season with a bang, scoring in three goals in the opening two matches of the season.

Valued in the £8m, which seems a bit steep and perhaps that kind of money could be better invested?
