This makes little sense to me and I pray that it doesn’t come to fruition.

Brede Hangeland goes close with a header.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set a ‘48 hour’ deadline for Fulham to clarify whether or not defender Brede Hangeland is Emirates-bound, according to reports in Norway.

Norwegian daily VG state that Wenger wants the situation to be resolved as soon as possible with the new Premier League season returning this weekend.

The Daily Express suggest that Hangeland is not going anywhere for less than £15million – a similar figure to that of Kolo Toure’s which Arsenal received almost a fortnight ago. (Gooner Talk)

The buzz in the papers and on the internet appears to point towards the very real prospect of Arsene Wenger considering this purchase and I have to say I am not convinced it would be his finest hour if he were to stump up the hugely inflated fee for the Fulham giant.

Yes we probably need a centre back, perhaps even two, but is Brede Hangelaand the man for the job or perhaps more the more pertinent question is, should we fork out £15m for him? The answer to the first point may be perhaps but surely to the second point the answer must be “How Much!”

Roy Hodgson had previously made it clear he wasn’t open to selling the Norwegian but now it appears resigned to losing the player who may well have had his head turned by the constant speculation.
