Lee Cattermole Wigan Athletic 2008/09

STEVE BRUCE’S summer spending crashed through the £20million barrier last night as Lee Cattermole joined from Wigan.
The England Under-21 ace penned a four-year deal at Sunderland after a £6m fee was agreed.

Former Wigan boss Bruce has been chasing midfielder Cattermole all summer, since moving to Sunderland himself.

He said: “Lee has everything I like in a player, I’m delighted to have him here.

“He is a terrific footballer. He is young, strong and has a real passion that I’m sure our fans will love.”

Cattermole, 21, was a £3.5m Bruce signing from Middlesbrough at Wigan last year. He goes into the squad for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Bolton to join Darren Bent, Lorik Cana and Fraizer Campbell.

Bruce added: “As a North East lad, he knows what it means to play for a club in this region.” (The Sun)

Thank god for that!
